Booth never asked Brennan to change. He loves her. He loves how she is a scientist. This is heartbreaking. Brennan isn't like Booth. She is not a gambler. I think it's one of the reasons why they mold so well together. They complete one another
No, it's not the same thing. Firstly, they did not have a relationship. And secondly, Brennan kept exactly the fact that she might do something wrong and they would quarrel and then would not be able to work together, make friends and even communicate. And Booth hoped to be with her at least that way. For this, it is better for him than not to see her.

So he says he loves her but she says no. 10 episodes later and now Booth is happy elsewhere all of a sudden she does love him? It's a classic woman thing. She keeps him at arms length because she knows he will always be there but when he finally decides to look elsewhere all of a sudden she wants more.
