Get well soon, it's hard work but well worth it. I was paralyzed in 2020, broke my back and wasn't ever supposed to be able to walk again. 2 years later, having worked my ass off, I can't move my ankles or toes, have varying degrees of strength and weakness in different muscles from my chest down, but I can walk with crutches and ankle braces. This year I was able to get back on my bike and ride, thanks to a translogic powershifter. Still working my ass off, still improving... Keep at it.

I became disabled in 2003 in a workplace injury, 6mos after getting married. I'd recovered from 2 previous broken backs [racing snowmobiles] and got kicked at the base of my skull 💀 by a bull when I was rodeoing right out of high-school. So 3 different time's I've been paralyzed, twice from the waist down, and once from the neck down, I was so scared 😱 when I woke up in the hospital and couldn't move anything but my eye's, fcking terrified for a few day's until the swelling in my spine went down, and the sensationin my legs came back. Nowadays I'm able to walk around the house (short distances) and walk outside with a cane, and stand for a few minutes before the pain gets too bad. I had a power chair thing called a rascal, it was useless unless in a store or something. The thing would get stuck driving across the lawn, and was ruined by water after going through the snow. We have 8mos of winter here and I am eligible to get another chair/buggy but the one's that I found useful aren't covered by my insurance. The cheapest one is $18,000.00 grand the other us over $20grand depending on options. That's more money than I've ever spent on a car or ANY toy! Unfortunately I spend 80-90% of my awake time laying in my adjustable bed watching TV 📺. I tell myself that if I could do more if I had the scooter to get outside and chase my 17mos old grandson! Now I just lay here and watch utube! God bless you 🙏 and yours..from Wyoming USA 🇺🇸 🤠

@@RandomShart the "Action trackchair" and the "Coyote mobility atv 4x4" both are extremely expensive I'll now watch the thing you sent me! Thank you ahead of time, for helping me find a useful buggy. My mind doesn't like saying power chair! It's too close to the word wheelchair..smh...from Wyoming USA 🇺🇸 🤠

I lost my right foot to an IED in Afghanistan that took 13 surgeries and ended in amputation in exactly the same place. I later got a blood clot in my right arm that developed compartment syndrome. It’s been years since I felt able to ride or support the weight of a bike. I’m currently shopping for a Diavel. Amazing story you have, I hope you get back in the saddle at some point. Cheers

It was 25yrs ago yesterday that I was in a similar position to yourself, lying in hospital after a big bike crash that ripped 5 nerves (c5, c6, c7, c8 and t1) out of my spine leaving me with a paralysed left arm and a world of non stop severe chronic pain. It's been a tough journey, but one that has lifted me to greater heights, changed my world for the better and taught me so much. Despite it all I'm still here, still loving life and still riding motorcycles! Onwards and upwards.

When I was in Stanmore in 1996 I met a guy who had rolled his SUV. When he woke up they told him his wife had died. He was semi paraplegic from the neck down. He was a good bloke, I used to challenge him to arm wrestles and made him laugh., There was a girl who got paralised from the neck down and was on a breathing machine, she could not touch her toys on the tray in front of her. That still make me cry. There is no God. Just fate and luck.

It's eerie hearing Boothy speak about his accident, hospitalisation and the rehab experience. I shattered both my femurs in 2019 and went through similar accounts, thankfully no amputations. The most important part is the wanting to get better. I have some stories I tell all my mates about those at rehab who you could tell by their mindset were not going to get better. If you have the drive to get back to a normal life you will make it happen. Thanks for sharing Boothy.

This comment may sound distempered, or even wrong to you but WHAT A BLESSING IT IS TO HAVE THE NHS. In any country in the Americas if you have a similar accident, unless you're rich, you probably wouldn't get any, any of the treatment, you may just die of the hemorrhage. So glad Thatcher didn't manage to dismantle it all, so glad you're alive, mate. The TT riders inspire... awe to me, but I don't think I could ever ride on it. Enough perils on the road already. Glad you made it, man.

For those that don't know, Michael Booth, 'Boothy', crashed during Supersport qualifying for the 2022 Isle of Man TT on 3rd June 2022. If you're like me, I was recommended this video by RU-vid probably because I subscribe to Chris Eade's channel and having never heard of this poor chap I asked Google for the facts. 10th yr at the TT and we were so excited to see you with 44t this time. We walked round and round the paddock trying to find the camp. Found an empty spot next to DH and he politely said you'd "left". We knew what that must mean. Obviously it would have been in a press release if it had been terminal but that in between bit hit us hard. We looked out for every bit of info we could in the coming weeks. Our thoughts were with you the whole time. Best of luck with the rest of your recovery. You've already come a long way! :-)

Boothy’s “that’s not a hospital” chat was so relatable. When I was younger I had a horrendous skiing injury and was airlifted to a French hospital and put in a 12 week coma. When I came out I thought the hospital was fake, was convinced the block of flats I could see out the window was the football stadium of my home town team, and that the light above my bed was a camera watching me.

Hope you are recovering well and thanks for sharing this. It shows what risks we take in doing road racing. I know a few people who have had life changing injuries from racing and a lot more who are no longer with us (Davey Morgan was in front of you on the one clip). Some of the seriously injured friends have gone on to do other things in life that they wouldn't have otherwise done though and are some of the toughest and most inspiring people you ever meet. With Aberdare only a couple of weeks away, I sometimes wonder if its all worth it, but you are spot on that road racing recalibrates your exhilaration threshold, to such an extent, that most other things are relatively boring and sedate. The one other thing that's similar in terms of excitement, total concentration and speed is aerobatics in an aeroplane, so see if your sponsor will take you up in one of those spitfires!
