Boots & Shorts: Yay or Nay??

Honestly I think the white contrast might have been throwing you off id try black socks

real baggy shorts like them grungey looking ones with chunky black doc martens and oversized shirts + overshirts look pretty good. ive been complimented on that combo all the time, i usually wear it during summer

Yay for the hiker look with hiking boots and shorts. As a Park Ranger, we used hiking boots with wool socks (tan, black, or multi-colored earth tones). It can be done if you go more earthy hiker profile. You'll even enjoy it!

Doc marts or other lace up boots with shorts is always a yay for me, specially with high socks. I'm all about the 90's grunge vibe.

My favorite solution for boots with shorts is wear a slightly shorter short (they don't have to be super short, just not ones that come all the way to the knee, and then wear an outer layer or shirt that breaks up the silhouette on top, like a slouchy cardigan, a bomber, or an oversized cropped sweater. Changing the silhouette a bit makes the gap between the boots and the hem of the shorts feel less awkward, more intentional, less like something's missing by accident or something.

I wear hiking boots with shorts all the time.. but that’s usually with a flannel and when I’m working outdoors. Could’ve worked with the blundstones and some fishing shorts maybe

The one woth the sabbath short worked. As a metalhead, id wear some like that. It's too clean for a concert but it could pass

I'm thinking 3.5" inseam khaki cotton shorts, matching button down shirt, Blundstones, and black socks, just a shade higher than the boot gussets. Yeah. Crikey, that'd be a good look.

Try it with lighter coloured shorts. If you've got any light brown/dark orange or light grey shorts, definitely give it a try.

I wear boots and shorts all the time. It’s all about the proportions and the style lines of the boots. I’ll pair my traditional black cowboy boots that come up about mid calf with black dressier cut shorts (no pleats) and then a lighter-weight (chambray denim or linen) long sleeve button up. Sleeves are rolled up and the top 3 buttons left unbuttoned. Add a black scarf (larger than a bandana size) and do a simple knot tied-up close to the divot in the collarbone. Sometimes I’ll add a silver ring with a colored stone (turquoise or onyx, usually) as a knot cover. Finish with black belt with a silver buckle and silver eyeglasses or sunglasses. For a more streetwear look, I’ll wear baggier cut, workwear pants with a higher hemline (mid-calf); either I’ve had them tailored or just rolled up depending on the weight of the fabric. The boots are typically a Doc style or something that leans toward a workwear vibe. I’ve done this look with ankle height wingtip brogues that have a lug sole too. The point is to have about 3” of space between the top of the boot and the hemline of the pants. Picking a top is super easy as you can wear a tank top or fitted t-shirt to give you a slimmer silhouette. Then you can layer on a looser top like a camp shirt or a more structured jacket where the hemline hits at the waist. Then go big with chunkier accessories to balance the proportions of the baggier pants. Please try these ideas! I’d like to see you expand on what you already do. I think we’d be fashion friends.

I'd say desert boots would work, they were designed for British troops to wear with shorts in Burma.

I'd recommend with going with boots that don't contrast too much with your skin tone. I like to wear boots with shorts/skirts/dresses and the only way it will work for me is to match it to my legs or tights

Tight DENIM shorts paired with leather boots with laces (or high-tops) are perfect! Add in a T-Shirt or tank top (especially fishnet) with a leather jacket or bomber would be HOT! That's an outfit to an S&M party like Folsom Street Fair in San Francisco, CA.

I do black work boots with shorts and short skirts all the time (the rest of the outfit is pretty masculine but sometimes a skirt is just the best) and I think having tops that don't hang down as far makes it work better, more visually proportional or smth

I wear some variation of boots/sneakers with shorts every day for class (need closed shoes to get into my labs). The trick is very short shorts and a slightly baggy shirt. It works for both genders

Pretty much my outfit daily is either a Pearl Jam shirt or a jersey, basketball shorts, docs, and then a flannel to match the shirt over it. Simple, effective, and represents my personality well.

If you have a really alternative style, boots with shorts can absolutely work! Just needs to be a little different in the details to come together.

I always wear top sider sailing shoes with my khaki shorts. Denim shorts are no no. Also a T shirt and/or a polo shirt are my go 2s.

If you want some reference for boots and shorts maybe look to the 80s and 90s punk looks. Definitly some stylish people back then. The sharp outfit comes to mind. Dark ripped shorts, clunky black boots, white socks pocking out, a logo white tee or under shirt tank, loads of jewelry, and possibly a red plaid button up as an accessory.

Boots & shorts works when the shorts are workwear (long enough to protect knees). Those jorts go better with rollerskates.

Longer hiking shorts . . . something like cargo shorts but not so bulky. Some nice hikers and some Knee socks, it works. Especially if you have a pair of trekking poles or a sun hat.

Boots with shorts works for that "park ranger" or "sw punk" vibe. I actually will definitely be wearing navy chinos chopped and rolled to just under the knee cap + my jim green african ranger boots and green smart wool socks scrunched to meet the boot collar. The docs + tee works better with the laces and tongue loosened.

You should try a pair of shorts with an inseam between 3.5”-5”, that look always works for me if I style the shirt well.

Only really works with hiking boots if you are hiking or work boots if you are actually working as a builder etc

I like to rock a burgundy or green v or crew neck. Khaki shorts rolled up once, mine have a small blue square for trim inside. Then I do grey dress socks folded and dark brown boots. Oh and tuck in the shirt with a brown leather belt.

This is an old post but a good way to work around this is simply go for work wear. Cargo shorts with any sort of work boot looks clean and purposeful

Obviously the goth "boots and skirt" look works. I think taking that as a starting point and transitioning that into a more masc look produces something workable.

I'll wear Cargo (past knee) Shorts with "Combat" or "Hiker" boots with an unbuttoned rolled up plaid or swiss solid shirt over solid muscle shirt. Color coordinate with all pieces. And always have received positive remarks. Maybe people were being nice????? You have to be attracted to "the look"to enjoy wearing it.

Timberland boots with oversized jean shorts was made popular as street wear but we're talking to grown men now. The Wire franchise is on the shelf now and so a definte NAY.

Shorts = warm weather, boots = cold weather Try wearing warmer fabric in the shorts, or warmer colours, or warmer vibe. Pair that with a lighter boot, like canvas/maybe suede. Otherwise go with personality choices for shorts and boots, that don’t have to be anybody’s ‘Yah!’ but yours!

I'm an Aussie and Blundstone boots with short shorts (short by anerican standards) is my staple.

from my own experience, if you wanna rock shorts and boots you gotta find another way to fill up the legroom. i use thigh highs!! it makes everything more cohesive

So in South Africa this is very popular with afrikaans men Like a tan brown short and some lowcut matched brown boots and a button shirt works really well . A light blue short and boot with a white shirt almost always comes out just right too. Try it out if you'd like :)
