Love my Boox Go. It’s a great device, but you’re wrong about the pen. My reMarkable pen attaches to the edge with no issues (stronger magnets). Also the case I got didn’t match the tablet and frankly the extra flap just causes problems. If you stick it in the back it interferes with writing… it’s always in the way. As per usual, Boox separated all the apps and note taking, PDFs +++ for no reason in a weird menu structure. Everything is 5 taps away. In the end this is my favorite eInk because the Note app is the best I’ve used.
Does look mighty pretty. Interesting about losing the front light feature. You're right that it does seem more like the magic of the original e-book readers.
The Boox hardware itself is wonderful! When we attached an OTG thumb drive and then SD card, the device recognized both, BUT, there was no way via software to transfer our work, much of which is confidential, onto the thumb drives or SD cards even though both showed up and were recognized. THAT is a major flaw.
You are absolutely spot on about the 'magic' of e-ink being lost with all the additional technologies being added. I bought a Sony Librie back in 2005. It cost me a small fortune to get it from Hong Kong, but it really did feel magical. It's hard to explain to people why not having a front light might be preferable because we're so used to our devices lighting up. There are technical advantages (bringing the e-ink layer closer to the front), but for me, it's because the light makes it just another screen. I hope they bring out an 8" one with the same design. That, for me, would be the perfect e-reader.
I love my Boox Go 10.3, but I find that there is visible latency when writing. Nothing that prevents you from taking notes intensively... but still, I'm surprised that the reviews I saw don't mention it. However, today I found my Wacom Bamboo Feel that I bought many years ago to replace the very uncomfortable stylus on my Samsung Galaxy Note Tab 10.1 and then 12. What was my surprise to find that the writing experience was superior to that of the delivered stylus. No detectable latency... and the small button located at the finger grip is functional and allows you to activate the eraser! Amazing.
Hi Olly. I love your channel. I'm just curious did you ever read the Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman or any of the books in that series? They're cozy mysteries and I've just started reading them yo see what all the hype is about 😃
This is definitely piquing my interest. Id use it primarily for comics though. Not sure if i can justify the price just for that. But thats usually the type of thing id say just before buying something 😊
This looks fascinating! Just a small question: Is there a two-column-mode for when you hold the e-reader horizontally? This is my preferred reading setup. This would probably work if I install ReadEra, which I generally use with my Android tablet anyway :D
Imhate the eink devices with lights, the idea is to ot have a light pointing at your eyes, to have paper, and the latest eink devices basically are turning into lousy iPads.
