Thank you for your detailed review. I am an e-ink reader enthusiast from China, and your review is far better than the so-called "reviews" on Chinese social media that are often filled with praise for new products after receiving sponsorship from manufacturers. Boox has not released a frontlight-free model like the Go10.3 in China, but there are two Chinese brands, Hanwang and IReader, that also offer frontlight-free e-ink readers. The latest models are the Hanwang N10 Pro and the IReader Smart 5 Pro, both featuring 10.3-inch screens with 300ppi. The Hanwang N10 Pro not only lacks a frontlight but also doesn't have a touch layer (it can only be used with a stylus), so theoretically, it has the whitest background. The IReader Smart 5 Pro, on the other hand, is said to feature the new Carta 1300 screen, which has more sharper black text and a flexible screen.
The original Onyx Boox Go 10.3 pen holds very well on the Tab Mini C. So magnets in the pen are strong enough, the problem is more the thin profile of the device. Personally I've swapped the ReMarkable 2 for the Onyx boox Go 10.3 and I'm really satisfied. Thank you so much great review!
WOW!!! I am so impressed by this review. You answered ALL my questions, and I'm now going to place the order for the Boox Go! Brilliant review here, Voja! Thank you so much!
Hi, did you get your Boox? Is the latency really bad as indicated in this review? Does 17ms from Supernote vs 33ms from Boox make a noticeable difference?
@@SpikedSilver Yes, we received the Boox and returned it the next day. Our problem was the file management system. With the Supernote, you can work on highly confidential documents and never have to upload them to "the cloud" and instead simply plug in a USB-C thumb drive and save your work there. With the Boox, this is not possible. Since our company does not allow for the storage of any confidential files in cloud servers, this was the deal-breaker. The latency itself wasn't so bad, and in terms of hardware, we were impressed by the Boox. But we're sticking with the Supernote and are now waiting for the A4 version to come out.
Thank you for all the amazing and detailed reviews. All your heard work is appreciated. I just ordered the MDO 2025-2026 and already own the 2023, 2024 MDO and meeting planner. Besides being so helpful it is a way I can support you even if a little. Thanks
Amazing review. Been eyeing the device and I'm aware your not shilling it but wow. Just the comprehensiveness of the review and the glee you've presented it with makes me wanna buy the device and that sick keyboard as well.
Thank you :) I ended up buying it after the review, and I haven't regretted it. Instill use my NA3C as a device for lots of stuff, but Go 10.3 for reading and writing is just so enjoyable, it just feels lovely to use, for me at least ;)
This review just pushed me over the edge to finally buy the Go 10.3. This is going to be my first E-ink device (other than a borrowed kindle) but I have wanted something like this since I first saw a ReMarkable ad couple years back.
Great review!! Your commentary is very helpful. I have bought the Boox Go 10.3 a few days ago and I really like it compared to the Boox Note Air 3C device. The writing is so crisp even though it doesn't have front light. The only thing is I can't seem to make the highlighting work in this device as it covers up the writing. I don't have this problem in Supernote.
It's such a wonderful device! It's definitely the best screen I've ever used. I hope this puts a fire under the ReMarkable team to do something better for the RM 3...whenever that gets released.
Great and complete review! For a pure reading experience (comics/mangas/web brosing) do you recommend the Note Air 3 C (even if there is additionnal layer for the frontlight)? I have a "neck reading lamp" to read in the dark , i'm curious about the glare on this screen
I am a new subscriber and I just have to say, thank you for such a thorough review. All of your reviews that I have watched are excellent and provide such a wealth of information while remaining balanced. Thank you.
Wonderful editing job. And again, thank you for including chapters. As a happy owner of this device, I didn’t need the review, but it was nice to watch it all.
Thanks for the wonderful review. Please keep us updated on the writing latency issue! I also have the device and in less than a day I noticed that in some writing sessions latency feels much better while sometimes it just gets worse.
wish more was told about lack of frontlight and how it impacts usagel limits of usage inside rooms with typical (not great) lighting or with external lighting that is not directly shining on the screen; can't see it in the chapters - i think there should be separate chapter on this topic; I personally cant use my Note Air1 without frontlight during the day inside the room with natural light; cause natural light just do not shine inside bright enough; similar with artificial ceiling lighting; so for me no frontlight is only good when used outside or inside very close to the window with the device directed at the window so that sun can shine directly on it; otherwise the contrast is just too bad; so im wondering whether Boox Go would have the same problems
Voja you are such a delight, thank you for all of your hard work!! I've been torn between getting the Boox Go 10.3 and waiting for the Supernote a5x2, but now I think I'm going Go all the way.
Thanks, but if I was playing the Algo Game, then I'd have to resort to using the "standard approach" of using the clickbait stuff, and that's not something I am interested in doing. I'll do my stuff and how it works, it works 😁
Hello, the devices by onyx seem very good! I have heard a lot of complaints about quality control and support afterwards? Have you had any experience with that?
Hej Voja, I see people complaining that they cannot install Google Drive on this device - do you know anything about it? What about sharing screen with your notes as an integration into a workspace? Other than that, great device - thanks a lot for such super detailed review 🎉
Love every review, had to watch even though I knew from the start I wouldn't be buying this - I need front light - but it's a nice glimpse into where the company is going and the new software update. Sad about the Note Air 3 latency update...
I've watched many reviews here in RU-vid. I just want to thank you for such a great review. In depth but not boring at all. Hope I can procure myself one of these devices in the future.
Thank you for the great review. I am loving the 10.3. First boox device for me. Also have the a5x and a6x2. Making this my daily driver right now. As you said it's for those with a specific use case scenario. I am using it to read and study while writing on on my RM2. I need the large screen to read with due to my old eyes. I have had this for a few weeks and still learning things. I also like writing on it which i do when writing casually. Will probably sell the a6x2 eventually just because the small screen doesn't meet my needs. Thanks again for this. Currently the only thing i an having trouble with is trying to figure out how to print from the device itself with A5 side paper. When trying to print from the device it gives me a choice to pick size of paper i am using but currently can only get it to print in letter. I am sure it's something I am doing wrong. Again, loving this device.
I was wondering what you guys thought about the difference writing on this vs. the supernote? I have the nomad, and think the writing experience is good on the supernote, but was impressed with this review. Is this worth spending another $300 plus on?
Thanks for giving such great in-depth reviews! This device is sooo enticing. As are the features hopefully coming in the Supernote A5X. I’m going to need to replace my reMarkable 2 at some point…which to choose!!?! 🤔 My primary use case is for note taking. I wonder how many of the things Boox introduced with this device that reMarkable was planning as a “big release” with their reMarkable 3? And wonder if reMarkable is now scrambling on how to market their next reMarkable device, or if there will be one.
I honestly don't know, but they have to do something meaningful, both on the hardware and software side of things, in order to be competitive. It shouldn't take too much, because the platform already has a good focus, and a big community, so all they need to do is listen to the community and play to their strengths. Unfortunately, update 3.12 has shown that they aren't doing any of that, so hopefully this device is something that will force them to reevaluate decisions that led to the platform regressions we've seen introduced with that update.
Thanks for this amazing review. Boox go 10.3 seems great device, i want to use it for reading(pdf, kindle), wrting(notes to replace paper, and assignment,), taking(handwriting, and typing)notes and for drawing sometime. After this video I am quite keen on buying it and trying it myself as there is no demo device on retail store to see if its good fit for me. Once again thanks for the indepth review.
Thank you! I already have it but I felt I would learn something anyway. I don't really feel the latency problem but I never really felt on any of the Boox devices (Note Air, Note Air 2 Plus). It's not a surprise when we know that a ms is a second divided by... a thousand.
No sd card?...substandard case with no yoga foldability?....no volume adjustment rocker for audible books?....it won't connect to my airpods?... I'm sending it back.
This regression in writing latency is a great pity. They had done so well with the Note Air 3 C but then things only went backwards again. This confirms my assumption at the time that the extra GPU (BSR) played a major role in the low writing latency on the NA3C. If only it weren't for the enormous battery consumption...
Thank you Voya. You delivered it again, as did boox with this GO 10.3. What's your thought on adding a paperlike screen protector to even improve writing feel and adding extra protection? Or would that be just adding a layer without much value added?
I have the tablet (Boox Go 10.3) for a week, once fully charged from 24% to 100% and now I can feel how the adhesive under the leather back has apparently come loose: It makes noises when I press on it and I can also feel a slight bump when I run my hand over it. Against the light I can see a slight unevenness on the gray metal strip on the back. Minimal, but its there. Very hard to make a photo of it. However it lies flat on the table and doesn't wobble so it's most probably not the battery that has somehow inflated. 😕
@MyDeepGuide In video at 38:04 you said that notebook capabilities are not excelent as it is with supernote. Can you hint what is advantage of supernote comparing to the this one in terms of writing in notebook? I understand that boox is more versatile than supernote, than I am bit confused. Maybe you can make some comparison between supernote and this one in future... Thank you for very good reviews of the tablets, you do great work!
I broke down (gave up waiting for the SN A5X2) and bought a GO 10.3 and it arrived late yesterday. So far I am pleased with my decision and impressed with the device. Learning how to navigate the BOOX/Android UI will take some time, but I’ve already found some benefits within it. Anyway, I was playing with some different styluses and discovered a unique phenomenon and wonder if you have. If I write some text in the 5 different pen types: ballpoint (8), brush pen (5), (fountain) pen (11), marker (15) and pencil (2) with the standard BOOX stylus and then do the same with the Scribe premium stylus I get a similar look for the ballpoint, brush pen and marker, but a much thinner stroke with fountain pen & pencil using the Scribe. Any idea why this would be?
Yes, it is the calibration and quality of the pressure sensitivity driver within the pen itself. Kindle Scribe pen is of a much better quality, and has a different pressure sensitivity curve than the default pen from Boox. As such, it offers a much more usable pressure range.

thank you for this guide! i am actually in between go 10.3 or supernote a5x2 (when it releases), what do you think in terms of specs and similarly with the nomad? if you could make a separate video of showing the go 10.3 performing with kindle and mangas, that would awesome! thanks voja
Brother, can you please do an analysis of the various pens and pen tips and find out what they actually cost to manufacture? That would be a pretty interesting exposé.
Excellent review, thank you. Do you think the Boox GO 10.3 could be a valid alternative to the Supernote A5X (A5X2), considering that I need to create indexes and chapters in my notes? (I know I can't create indexes and chapters like in the Supernote A5x, but is it possible to do it in a similar way?)
You can use a combination of naming single pages (and then viewing thumbnails) and keywords/tags, but if you need a more direct way to access pages/parts of a notebook you could also employ links between pages and create an overview page at the start of each notebook, for example. As much as I like the heading function on my Nomad, I do miss naming specific pages there.
Waiting on the SN a5x2, but this looks like the first Book device good enough to consider as well. However the notetaking options are the single most omportant thing to me. Does this have any feature like SNs digest that lets me cut sections from tons of different pdfs, let me notate over those selections, and build them into a single notebook to work from (as well as paste them i to other notebooks) as well as link directly back to the pdfs they were cut from originally?
Hello Voja ! thank you so much for your reviews. Would love to hear your opinion how this compares to NA3 not just NA3c. I own an NA3 and since the launch of go 10.3 i ve been torn if i should sell mine and replace it with the go. I never use the backlight so i m wondering if thts would be an upgrade ? Thank u !
Thanks for watching :) I understand, but this device is not meant to do that, so there is no point in testing it. If you want to watch videos, then you need to look at a different device.
@@MyDeepGuide There are as many use cases as there are users. Of course I'd never watch a Netflix movie on an e-ink device, but these are great for meditation and yoga videos when you don't want distractions.
Weird that my comment about watching yoga and meditation videos disappeared. I have dumb phone to reduce my screen time. This is why I use my eink device for guided meditations and yoga. Boox Palma was great for that use because of the BSR, but otherwise it was pretty buggy (apps crashing etc.) and of course, small. This is why I was interested in the video performance. But I saw a video about it elsewhere, and the performance is surprisingly good. Eink devices can be great for consuming videos with information mainly on the audio track (speeches, lectures, tutorials etc.).
Do you know if Boox has any plans to launch an app that syncs all notes, like Remarkable's app? That's really all I'm waiting for before I switch from Remarkable.
Thx for the in-depth HW review. Definitely smth other reviewers are missing. One thing I really miss here and at from others reviewers is the interaction with popular productivity apps. ❓Since G010 is an e-ink tablet and could you please showcase some examples for using apps like OneNote, Notion, Obsidian, Miro, Asana, Trello with e-ink screen? (ofc mostly in reading mode, not writing/typing).
I'm delighted with my Boox Go 10.3 After being with it for a couple of weeks now, I'm seeking to improve the writing experience with different pen nibs. The Boox tips that come with the box are quite hard and tippy tappy without being scratch (gel pen/glassy feel), but the ones that come with the Staedler noris digital jumbo are a little too soft and silky(very little feedback). I'm after a Goldilocks nib somewhere in between, that feels more like a pencil. The best writing experience I had was nova air C with a doodroo screen and a titanium-nibbed staedler noris digital, so it might be that I need to explore a different screen protector to get the effect that I want. Welcome replies with recommendations.
Thanks for the detailed review. I was waiting for this for quite a while. Thanks to you I’m now convinced and will order the device. The bad thing about it is that Boox is only accepting payments through PayPal. I think I’m going to order from Amazon but I think Amazon doesn’t provide the pen nor case :/
We bought the Boox GO 10.3 but had to return it. When we tried to transfer our work in NOTES from the Boox onto a USB-C thumb driver and onto an SD card attached through the same port hub, there was NO option to do so. NOTES will not allow you to save, export, or copy anything onto the external drive, even though both the thumb drive and the SD card were recognized by the Boox device itself. THAT is a deal-breaker.
Of course you can. You simply need to export the notes, and you can export them in several different ways. Have you tried reading the User Manual before returning the product?
Really good review. I wonder how the device handles an academic workflow, such as annotating PDFs, exporting them (annotations and PDFs), integration with libraries managers such as zotero, etc etc. This is the only thing that holds me against supernote and I think that Boox clearly wins (at least with tablets such as the NA3)
Absolutely, Boox wins hands down in that department, and whenever I need to do any PDF related work, be it study, research, reading or anything like that, I always use a Boox device, and Supernote is my notebook device.
Thanks for the video , i too loved the device but this writing latency is giving me headaches, i have given them the feedback to improve this, would be great if you could suggest this to boox too !! thanks !
Excellent review as usual ..thank you so much ...I have one question..is it possible to move notes pages between notebooks in different folders ? , it happens all the time that I have to write a note on the go on whichever note book is open and then I need to move it to it's relevant notebook and folder
I'm wondering if you use screen protectors or something similar. Does anyone have experience? Are there screen protectors for the Go 10.3 that feel like paper? should you use this? Thank you for your great videos!!
In my place Go 10.3 150$ pricier than the actual price. Is it still worth it? Other onyx in the same price range is note air 3, and tab ultra bw/c. Any suggestions?
I'm going to return mine. In perfect lighting, it's at best just usable for how grey it is. In anything but ideal lighting, what should be white is just super grey, it's extremely displeasing. I'll look for something with back light. I'm really disappointed none of the reviews flag this as a major point of attention. If you want to read a4 PDFs like legal docs or scientific papers, you'll just stare at large expanses of grey with black text. It sucks major balls.
❓Also, since you own Note Air 3 (C) how do you think the lack of fingerprint button on GO10 impacts the security of the device if stolen? Is it possible to have a multi-users scenario on NA3 and GO10 for each user to have a separate collection of books and apps installed?
Hello! Which of all ereaders has the best screen quality (sharpness, contrast, crispest)? I understand those without backlighting, but is there really a big difference, e.g., between the Poke 2, and the Kobo Clara BW or Boox Go 10.3? I have already Poke 2 and thinking about changing to smth crisper :)
For me, currently it has to be the Box Go 10.3, but there are a couple of new devices coming out soon which might challenge that, so we'll see how that evolves :)
I have a question about Go 10.3 for reading PDFs: I am in the market for my first eink tablet and will mainly be using mine for reading and annotating PDFs, epubs and Word documents. I have narrowed my choice down to the Go 10.3 and NA3. I like the sleek design and display of the 10.3 but I don't like the way the screen seems to flash (refresh?) when I see people turning pages on PDFs on RU-vid reviews. Given that I am new to this area and have never used one in person I am not sure if I have the language down to describe my concern but I saw on a another video on this channel comparing the NA3 and NA3c and Voja was able to mostly get rid of the flashing that happened by enabling the speed mode on the NA3. Is that possible on the Go 10.3? Thanks in advance!
I so badly want something like that that has a keyboard cover and lower typing latency. I want a black-and-white e-ink device that I can use to both read books and pdfs and to write in Obsidian. I want to be able to type with it on a desk, in my lap, or in bed - I just don’t feel like Boox is quite there yet, but I came so close to getting this.
Question - Will notes created in a Boox TUC transfer over to a Go 10.3? Not concerned about color loss but need my notebooks and not as pdf converted. I'm asking this because I have a TUC, use it almost every day and take with me most of the time, but dropped it a little too often without the case on so considering getting a new tablet.
Abt 52:00 | The typing experience on keyboards: * Correct me , if I am wrong, but the speed and precision looks , to me, the same , when you were testing with bluetooth keyboard versus this OTG-based mechanical ? I mean the Boox display was showing the characters with the same speed, is it? (Of course, typing on physical keyboard overall would give different experience, it's a matter of taste, but just about displaying that all on this Go 10.3, it would be not make the difference)
Of course it is, as the bottleneck will always be the e-ink screen refresh speed, so any difference between wireless or wired input will never be perceptible, as the screen refresh speed will be slower than either of the two.
We bought the Boox GO 10.3 and had to return it. The hardware itself is gorgeous, and the screen is absolutely the best. BUT: you cannot transfer your NOTES from the Boox onto a USB-C thumb drive or onto an SD card connected through the USB-C port! Even though the Boox recognizes the attached drives, there is NO option from NOTES to save, or export, or copy your files onto the external card or thumb drive. THAT is a deal breaker.
@@MyDeepGuide Cool! I broke the same one from my Nova Air and I've been crying inside since because I don't like the pro (I have small hands and it does not balance well for me). Believe it or not, having a cap is the last factor I needed to buy it. You are the best!
Hi, do you know if you can write/annotate in e-books while using the Kobo app on this device or the note air 3c? Something like on the Kobo libra color?
I would like the scratchy and friction-loaded screen (I really can't write on gliding surfaces), but the lag and the Lack of lighting... Btw: what do you think about the claim Regarding the lack of lighting on their website?
The most notable one is the absence of "Headlines" which allows creating a TOC in a notebook. The other one is the fact that if you use a PDF as a notebook template, on Supernote it preserves hyperlinks, which is not the case on Boox.
@@MyDeepGuide 🤔..By using various notebooks for the same project, each link in the table of contents would always be on page 1 and there would be no need to update them manually. 😁
What I meant was that you would need to update the TOC page manually by adding links to the new pages, while on the Supernote, this is done automatically, by simply adding a Headline :)
