I was in that recital and it was a heartbreaking moment.

I regret somewhat not having left in this upload the silence followed by the bewilderment of the audience, followed by their encouraging but still bewildered applause. I'm sure it is indelibly etched in you. I tried to alert you to a film in celebration of his 100th anniversary. Did I succeed? Heleninlawrence@gmail.com

@@heleninlawrence2217 - I don't understand. There is a silent pause followed by applause in this recording, isn't that the same thing as you were describing in your comment?

At least it wasn't the end, as those wonderful Celibidache recordings from 1992 attest to.

It was so delightful to have him play the Ravel concerto with Celibidache in Munich again and offer him a special birthday present. They carried a chaise longue on stage for Celibidache after the concerto and have him enjoy the rare delight of Michelangeli playing Reflets dans l'eau for him - with an audience of about 2000 people who were irrelevant in that special moment.

I agree. And Peter Lemken adds information I lacked, about the chaise for Celibidache, but it might be I misremember --- wasn't the encore Hommage a Rameau? I remember being spellbound!

@@heleninlawrence2217 It was definitely Reflets dans l'eau, but since they played the Ravel 3 times in Munich and also the Schumann concerto as part of Celibidache's 80th birthday he played different encores obviously.

Ah. Thank you. Did you get to see the film for his 100th birthday?

@@heleninlawrence2217 I have actually just watched, because it is now available on arte.tv, but only for residents of Austria, Germany and Switzerland. This is the 52 minute version I watched, but it seems there is also a 79 minute version as well and I wonder what additional material they have included in that extended version. In any case, quite interesting, especially in regard to the series of Munich concerts, one of which I attended and recorded.

Through some blunder of mine, I inadvertantly made all videos on the Helen and Herman in Lawrence channel private, instead of public. I'm trying to fix my blunder, but haven't succeeded as yet. Soon, I hope! Thank you. --helenandhermaninlawrence@gmail.com

I seem to have failed in my attempt several months ago to respond to your inquiry, and I'm sorry to have figured out my error this late. I had made a blunder and inadvertantly had everything on the helenandhermaninlawrence channel made private; now, I believe, I've corrected that blunder, and things you searched for should be available again. Thank you, and please forgive my ineptitude in attempted response months ago.

+berlinzerberus Yes. The impact is huge, pevasive, doesn't just go away. I put up the Tokyos because he was very much still there, still listening. But this is still sad nonetheless.
