I've been watching all the videos of the trip and they're all so great! Much inspire lol. I've watched them all out of order and so it's fun to see the preparation for the trip while already knowing what's in store down the road.
I've never heard of anyone having a problem getting into Mexico, but getting out, that's usually a problem 😆 Good luck guys, 3 countries, 1 Chinook! Pretty awesome! I'm glad my fellow Americans treated you good, we're pretty nice people
This whole time I’m like… how did you have the money to do this. 1- you don’t have kids. I’m turning 23 this month and have a 2 year old so I couldn’t even imagine. 2- you probably get paid by RU-vid so that’s probably how. I watch pretty much every video and some more then once like your solid axle comparison video for example. Thank you. Honestly I’d like to see you do more of a blog as a separate series. I’m sure there’s a lot you aren’t showing and it would be cool to see more of your adventures
Sponsorships help too. It's amazing how businesses and interested people will get behind someone else's dreams. They have done the dreaming and much of the hardwork, but lots of outside help goes a long way
I think they’ve been saving big time! If I recall, they were planning to do this trip just before Covid happened so they likely had set aside some money for that, then saved even more through covid.
They had good paying jobs on the island and hoarding old Toyota parts back when it was practically given away happened to be very good savings investments for all of us in BC. A truck I bought for 400 4 years ago I just sold for 6 grand in worse shape then I bought it They don’t really get any views they make maybe 100 bucks a month RU-vid is hard until your get close to a million views consecutively
Travel like this usually costs waaaaay less than living in Canada. If you can make the effort to save, and you’re frugal on the road, it’s possible. No kids always helps😜. I assume these two worked hard and made plenty of sacrifices in order to make this happen. Also, any of us that have been fortunate to travel this way understand that it’s a giant privilege, no matter how much effort it takes.
Well the first thing is they are pretty handy DIY types. Second the first thing they didn't do was spend 100k on a new Shiney ride. And mostly they are a great team!
I'm traveling vicariously with you from Yukon. I'm a Toyota guy. Back in the 80s took my 84 hilux to Baja towing a trailer with 2 buggies on board. Toyota did not exist in Mexico so the SOP then was to leave a visa number at a San Diago Toy dealer in case parts were needed. The Baja was very quiet back then. Big airport at Cabo was just a rumor. Anyways my point was the Mexicans were wonderful. No issues, not one. Enjoy yourself.
You made it to the border! Good on ye. Love those wheels too. Good thing you are pretty handy at monkey wrenching these Toyotas. Aha, I see your Baja vid is now up so I'd better check that out one right now. Good luck amigos. Cheers from the west coast.
Loving your adventures, even the disappointment of getting the wrong wheels while it sucks it is all part of it. A vacuum cooling system bleeder would have ensured no air in the system. Any quality workshop should have one. If they don’t they should get a set they are brilliant.
That 3.4 should never overheat! I have owned several including a 3rd gen 4runner that I bought new and still have today. Also I live in the desert southwest….its hot hot hot here! I’m happy your in old Mexico. You will love it.
Were you going up Banner Grade on Sunday afternoon? I was pulled over in my FJ55 filling my tires and cool Chinook went by. Didn't sound like it had a 22r.
I’ve been watching you guys for awhile and inspired me to keep going on my full size bronco. I love my Falcon AT tires. In the ice and snow they got good traction
Greetings from the somewhat sunny south Okanagan, thanks for another video folks. The new wheels look nice and we hear good things about Falken tires. Shoutout to Kevin and Alexa for all the help they gave you guys. Hopefully the overheating issue is solved and safe travels.
The 3.4 have a thorque to yield head bolts there been cases were the bolts loose tensile strength and become partially loose it will only show under high pressure not wile idling. The only way to find out is to check the thorque engine hot if they are loose replaced bolts on reverse of thorque patterns and thorque to yield using patterns
KMC be doing that man. I tried to get some wheels from them too and they sent the wrong ones. So I said screw that if they can’t get it right I’ll just buy other wheels. I went with methods and I love them I’m so glad I didn’t get the KMC’s in the end
Good vibes.. it seems like driving into LA wasn't such a bad idea after all. Awesome wheels. I've had my eye on SCS F5s forever but these might be even cooler.
I bought the exact same solar panel! I've only tested it briefly outside my garage, and it seemed to work as expected. From what I've read, the CIGS technology is slightly less efficient than regular monocrystalline panels in full sunlight, but more efficient in lower light or overcast conditions.
Your epic adventure reminds me of a 1972 trip I did with four friends in two Land Rovers that took us from Vanvouver to as far south as you can drive in South America. How will you deal with the Darien Gap? Also wonder if you've considered a heat exchanger shower? Of course you won't get as dirty as often driving a Toyota instead of a Land Rover. When you get to Argentina order Churasco Completo. Bon voyage.
The head gasket would have been a bummer, but I've never heard of that as a big issue for the 5VZ-FE. Good luck in Old Mexico. You do hear plenty of cautionary tales, but there should also be a million wonders.
God bless you guys. Remember, you get what you give. Your attitude will determine the treatment you get back from people wherever you go. By looking at your videos I can tell you’ll be just fine. Enjoy Mexico and Latin America
I have 3 x 5VZ-FE's. One was overheating on hills. I'm pretty sure it was the fan clutch. I replaced all 3. I've done tons of 4x4ing in Baja. I could tell you some great places to visit but I think you need to be with a few vehicles otherwise you could get stuck if you break down. When you go through Guerrerro Negro you can get a street puppy on the west end of town. I got 4.
If the fan doesn’t come on when you start it up after it’s been off for awhile then it’s bad. The fluid in the clutch drains while it’s not running which makes the fan come on. Once you start it up it takes a minute but it moves the fluid back and will shut the fan off.
17:44 The best way to get the siphon started without sucking on the tube would be to hold the tube in a "U" shape, fill the tube with water, hold your thumb over the end you want the antifreeze to come out of, put the other end in the rad and lower the end your thumb is on then release your thumb, let the water in the tube start the siphon. 25:22 This is good advice, as Canadians loosing your ID in Mexico/South America is going to make it really hard to get back into the states. Don't give officials at the border a hard time (not that you two would, but for others), you are asking permission to enter another country, it is not your "right" to be able to cross, so many people that have issues with authorities get this wrong all the time.
OMG there is nothing more stressful than a head gasket test when you have suspicions. I don't know the 3.4 as well but that is one weakness (and probably the only) of a 22R/22RE motor is a factory head gasket. LCE engineering has some really high quality stuff for the old Yotas.
Hey guys, when you changed from a 20r to the 3.4 L , did y6ou replace the rad with a larger capacity? Did you use the factory clutch fan also? Land crusuiser diffs? Nice rig, great shape. cheers from the Sunshine Coast.
How are you guys prepared for emergencies? First aid kit, and training? What about any training on how to deal with sketchy people? It will most likely be a safe and fun trip overall, but when your out in the middle of nowhere on your own, self reliance is key. This is going to be such a crazy bonding experience for you guys. Nothing brings people closer together or farther apart then these kinds of experiences. I can tell you guys are already a solid team.
We have a standard first aid kit (that we should upgrade) and Stacey is level 3 first aid. As for the people... We got street smarts for that lol Thank you for the comment, we get better as a team every day!
So what was causing the overheating? I am Mexican i live south of TJ and even i was nervous when i first started going south to baja, taking my wife to the middle of nowhere not knowing if i was going to run into trouble but all of my worries banished pretty soon, ive been to a lot of remote spots and each trip just keeps getting better, be careful and enjoy the views, hope you get to know a lot of places.
Sounds like you've been enjoying what most people come to Mexico for, and just like us, with a positive attitude a lot of good things will come. We are suspect of the fan clutch for the overheating. It was so cold in Cali we couldn't really test it out... Trying to order one to MX now!
My daughter drove across Mexico to Belize … great people cops we scammers. My advice have a cab camera that films the cops have a wallet with $20 … open it say this all I have left.
Would love to see more frequent videos from you two. More videos equals more views, potentially more subscribers and more money for you. But I do have to say It’s very annoying listening on headphones. Much of your content only has sound out of left speaker.
The audio thing it weird. I've checked it in my headphones and it's fine... I changed some things in the latest vid so hopefully it helps! As for the video frequency - we do our best.
@@arizonarider6998 Couldn’t agree more. I enjoy following them a lot. Using other overlander’s tips for sketchy areas should hopefully see them through unscathed
