I don't understand why many games limit the HDR to 1,000 nits. It should be 4,000 nits at least. Just let people set the max nit for what their own monitor/TV can do. I have a bravia 9 85" and can rock 2800 nits. Let me have my TV actually do the HDR as it can do.

0:00 I agree black floor is perfect but the game still felt too dark overall on my Philips oled (CX equivavelent) i had to use maxed out DTM and brightest gamma setting to have an acceptable overall brightness... Also it didnt seem to hit the peak bright neither, because i know my TV can do better (like in Doom Eternal) so i just really dont know whats up... B3 HDR was decent for me but just not bright enough and i know you have the spectograph it is objectively correct but to me it always felt a little too dim (unless during daytime on a bright desert map). At this point ill just blame my tv, i really need a G3 or something with MLA+.. sigh

Is there actually any point of the PlayStation HDR calibration screen anymore when so many games don't even use it, makes alot more sense for games to have their own individual calibrations like Doom Eternal does

The thing is that on PS5 hdr is not real, it is a fake, just like vrr on PS5.

@@GamingTech-RU-vid And the fact that in all games on PS hdr is switched directly from the game menu, while on xbox the game needs to be reloaded to run in hdr, even when viewing screenshots on xbox you need to switch sdr or hdr and the meta data is reloaded, but on ps this always on the fly, this is not true hdr. And that's a fact.

@@NinjaT-pq7bu sorry but you are wrong. PS5 has the same "true" HDR as the Xbox or PC.

On xbox with Dolby vision it looks much better than on PS5 with hdr. With Dolby vision, the peak brightness is always slightly higher and the color gamut and gradient are many times better than with HDR. Play on xbox only with Dolby vision. It's not on PS5.

It might look good to YOU, but of course the picture would be highly inaccurate. No games on Xbox actually use Dolby Vision outside of Halo: Infinite (even in that game it’s a poor implementation), so it would just be tone mapped HDR10 in a Dolby Vision container. So the color gamut and gradient would be at a similar accuracy as using auto-HDR. I never use Dolby Vision on Xbox, as it always looks wrong and causes banding, and terrible color reproduction that just looks off to me. But to each their own.

@@Stephen_Black I have never read more nonsense in my life, Dolby has nothing to do with auto hdr, it’s completely different, Dolby on xbox looks better than hdr and it doesn’t matter if there is native support or not, it’s always better, and 1 in 1 as with hgig. Most likely someone needs to buy a better TV.

@@NinjaT-pq7bu "Most games aren't actually mastered in Dolby Vision and, instead, rely on a Dolby Vision upscaler provided by Dolby itself to turn HDR10 values into Dolby Vision metadata. In that sense it's not "real" Dolby Vision like a game that is mastered using the Dolby Vision for Games SIDK. One silver lining though is that the Dolby Vision for Games upscaler is an opt-in feature for developers rather than an opt-out feature. The visual output is verified by developers to ensure it isn't messing up the intended look of their game. That doesn't mean it's necessarily a 1:1 match, but at least we know someone involved with the game's creation verified that the Dolby Vision upscaler output looked great and "checked the box" to allow its use."

@@NinjaT-pq7bu I have an LG G2. Not the newest model out, but still pretty decent I’d say. You can say “it looks better” just like people say “motion smoothing looks better,I prefer the Soap Opera Effect because it’s smoother” or “vivid mode and 100 sharpness looks better because it’s so much brighter and sharper”. It might look better TO YOU, but if it’s not native DV, it is simply HDR10 in a DV container. In other words - tone mapped. The same as auto-hdr. This automatically makes it less accurate. It might look wonderful to you, and that’s your prerogative. But by definition it is less accurate. If you prefer a tone mapped, less accurate image, by all means - go for it. Might look great to you. But to me, besides losing accuracy, it simply looks worse (in my opinion). Maybe you don’t understand what tone mapping is/does, maybe you don’t care. But by definition, it is a less accurate representation of color and brightness and the artifacts of that artificial conversion are apparent if you know what you’re looking at. Take Microsoft Flight Simulator as an example. That is a game where you cannot adjust the HDR brightness. Looking straight at the sun, it puts out 10,000 nits of peak brightness with HGIG enabled, and 2,000 nits if you choose “DTM off”. Now look what happens when you force DV. Look at the clouds. What do you see? Color banding in the clouds and sky. Why? Because it is being tone mapped artificially to fit into a DV container. Now both HDR10 and DV have a potential peak brightness of up to 10,000, so why is there is a difference? The difference is HDR10 uses static metadata, meaning the settings are based on the best average values for the content. Dynamic metadata (DV) uses different settings optimized for each scene and takes full advantage of the different capabilities of each HDR display. Native HDR10 does not contain this dynamic metadata. It is not “real” Dolby Vision. You can tonemap HDR10 into a DV container the same way you can tonemap a 200nit SDR game into an HDR container (such as autohdr), and it may look “better” to you. But it is always by definition, fake. Not accurate. To each their own. I prefer a game to look correct as to the creator’s intent, and the best/most accurate it can look on my television. If you want to use Soap Opera Effect, Vivid mode, auto hdr, fake Dolby Vision, etc go for it. But saying “it always looks better” is subjective, considering it looks awful to me.
