When this game was released me and my little brother played the hell out of this game, it consumed our imaginations, and eventually his lungs were consumed and he passed away last April, watching this video brought back countless hours of memories. RIP William ❤
Almost didn't happen - up until a few months before release, it was gonna be yet another gritty, serious, grey and brown shooter to throw on the ever expanding heap from that decade. Switching the tone and the art style was an 11th hour decision - a level of risk you'd NEVER see today.
I remember buying this game because the cover looked intriguing and I just wanted something me and my friend could play together on the couch. Went from a random purchase to us both standing outside for a midnight release of BL2, them getting their own console so we didn't have to split screen, and now being hooked on 3. This will forever be one of my favorite franchises ever, and is THE looter shooter.
I went through a similar phase. For the last decade or so, I'd heard nothing but good things about the Borderlands series; but never paid too much attention to it. I'd played bits of the first game years ago, but again, just never got into it enough to care. Then about 4 years ago, I finally got my hands on the Handsome Collection. I decided to sit down and give the Pre-Sequel a go before 2. And before long, I'd just fallen in love with these games. I finally finished the original after so many years, understood now why TFTB was so beloved; and was ecstatic as all hell when 3 was announced. The rest is history.
I remember accidentally buying this game on release day thinking it was Rage on the Xbox 360 and it turned out to be one of the best mistakes I've ever made. Been a huge fan ever since and the nostalgia with this intro hits different
Ever since the day borderlands came out, this has been the best game intro that I have ever seen. Epic in scale, personal, serious, funny, and it always makes me f*cking pumped to play borderlands again and again.
The best game intro that played a middle finger to the CodeHunters animated film director and creator Ben Hibbon, take a look at that guy's creation on Wikipedia.
And so one of the funniest, coolest and most unique games ever started. Got myself an Xbox360. And I bought Borderlands as a total blind gamble! The effect was intoxicating! Spent hundreds of hours in all 4 classes. All quests, all legendaries!
@@mairogoev673 I was walking down the street when out the corner of my eye I saw a pretty little thing approaching me She said, "I never seen a man, who looks so all alone And could you use a little company? If you can pay the right price, your evening will be nice But you can go and send me on my way" I said, "You're such a sweet young thing, why you do this to yourself?" She looked at me and this is what she said Oh there ain't no rest for the wicked Money don't grow on trees I got bills to pay, I got mouths to feed There ain't nothing in this world for free Oh no, I can't slow down, I can't hold back Though you know, I wish I could Oh no there ain't no rest for the wicked Until we close our eyes for good Not even fifteen minutes later after walking down the street When I saw the shadow of a man creep out out of sight And then he swept up from behind, he put a gun up to my head He made it clear he wasn't looking for a fight He said, "Give me all you've got, I want your money not your life But if you try to make a move I won't think twice" I told him, "You can have my cash, but first you know I gotta ask What made you want to live this kind of life?" He said Oh there ain't no rest for the wicked Money don't grow on trees I got bills to pay, I got mouths to feed There ain't nothing in this world for free Oh no, I can't slow down, I can't hold back Though you know, I wish I could Oh no there ain't no rest for the wicked Until we close our eyes for good Well now a couple hours past and I was sitting in my house The day was winding down and coming to an end And so I turned on the TV and flipped it over to the news And what I saw I almost couldn't comprehend I saw a preacher man in cuffs, he'd taken money from the church He'd stuffed his bank account with righteous dollar bills But even still I can't say much because I know we're all the same Oh yes we all seek out to satisfy those thrills Oh there ain't no rest for the wicked Money don't grow on trees We got bills to pay, we got mouths to feed There ain't nothing in this world for free Oh no we can't slow down, we can't hold back Though you know we wish we could Oh no there ain't no rest for the wicked Until we close our eyes for good
By far the best, the other games in the series just lose the subtlety and direction that the first game had, we just couldnt force ourselves to play the third one even, despite the mechanical improvements.
I miss when borderlands had a darker tone, everything was more depressing and characters were more antisocial. Created a really awesome atmosphere, but borderlands 2 is still a fun game to play through nonetheless
I feel you. The first one will for ever be my favourite. Especially on the first few maps. I think it's a bit sad that they decided to go all in on that crazy humour
@@tobiasklingele9803 it was 2010 humour, it makes for great marketing and memes at the time. Without it I don’t think we’d have had borderlands 3. I’m grateful for what we have now. Currently I’m working on a comic based on the original borderlands comic series and other books that came out at the time: i might post a video update on it when I have enough content out
I will always remember the first time I played a borderlands game (Borderlands 2) and when seeing the intro I thought that it probably wouldn't have been better with the song ain't no rest for the wicked and about a week later when I found out it was already used for the first games intro I felt like I knew everything
Fun fact: these are two separate scenes put together, the first when the bus driver is telling the story (it sounds like the bus driver) its when your picking a character to play as, the second where the skag gets hit with the bus is what plays when your idle for a a minute or two
I'm not a huge fan of the first Borderlands, and wasn't keen on what I played of the sequel, but there's absolutely no doubt in my mind that this intro is FIRE, probably one of the best gaming intros of all time. We've got pacing, we've got clear introduction to the world, it's monsters, and the roles our protagonists play in it and a sense of what each of them is about. We've got incredibly timing, action perfectly synced to the music, great music, great camera pans, and overall you just really feel the VIBE and energy of what's going on. Barely any actual dialog other than the music lyrics and the bus driver, and you feel like you inhabit that bus, and you're itching to step off it and engage with the world.
before i finished bl2 i watched someone's satirical take on what the borderlands movie is gonna be like, and at the end lilith says "there's no rest for the wicked." Never would I have guessed that she legitimately says it at the end of bl2

So, you want to hear another story, eh? One where the very fate of Pandora hangs in the balance? If not, too bad -- I’m telling you anyway. First, there was the Vault -- an alien prison opened with a mystical key. To the warriors who opened it, the vault was just a container of tentacles and disappointment. They vanished into the wastelands, certain that the Vault held no treasure at all. They were wrong. The vault’s opening triggered the growth of Eridium, a priceless alien element. Soon, the rare and valuable mineral emerged all across Pandora. Its appearance attracted many. Including...the Hyperion corporation. They came to Pandora to mine Eridium, and bring order to the savage planet. Through their excavations, Hyperion uncovered evidence of an even greater vault. Their leader vowed to find it -- to use its power to civilize the Borderlands, once and for all. But Hyperion weren’t the only ones searching for the next Vault’s alien power. The call of danger and loot is not so easily resisted. Certain warriors came to Pandora in droves to uncover its hidden secrets. Some would call them adventurers. Others call them fools. But I...call them vault hunters. Our story begins with them, and with a man named Handsome Jack...
When people say cel shaded games are always bad point them to Legend of Zelda Wind Waker and the borderlands series and not only prove them wrong but also blow their minds with how well emotions look in cel shading
