Line boring and welding? For a second I thought I'm at the *CEE Australia* RU-vid channel... 😁😁 No seriously, I think CEE is right up your alley. Kurtis does repair jobs that others have failed or deemed impossible. He's a master at the lathe, line boring machines, honing machines, welding, gauging, Bridgeport. He does all sorts of repairs for mining equipment like graders, excevators, compactors. He even can rebuild hydraulic cylinders up to D9 dozers and 400 ton haulers. Heavy metal in the truest sense. 🤘🤘

A machinist a I were in Texas on the side of a highway line boring inside a crane that was working on a bridge job, you talk about cramped up in behind the operators compartment! Welding up the bore and then having to help the machinists set up the boring machine! And this was start to finish like most of our jobs Clint! Everything was always an emergency rush job, and there was no going home and coming back! 2-3 hours to get there and we would work until the job was done! We’ve spent 20-30 hours on jobs back in the old days before OSHA was activated! Since I was driving the welding rig, that meant I was always the one to drive the machinist and I home afterwards! Lots of tiring hours driving back to the shop! I don’t miss any of it now that I’m retired but all of my body aches and pains now! Surgeries and recovery’s for the last 10 years now but I think all of that is done now! Just part of my lives work history in line boring jobs! Yall take care! 🙏🏻👏🏻👌🏻👍🏻🇺🇸✌🏻🙋🏼

Clint, since I worked in a big machine/ fab shop, we always had factory reps come and demonstrate different machines and options! You might want to check out commercial portable line boring machines! I don’t talk to my bosses anymore because the son in law took over the shop and he and I never saw eye to eye, other words he was a Prick my age and I actually started working there a year before him and he was a machinist and I was a welder! He was married to the owners oldest daughter! So I don’t contact them at all anymore! But research the portable application machines! Our machine shop has a machine that can swing a 9 foot part, it’s freaking huge and it layed in the floor so all you see is the turn table! Pretty big operation! Gulf Machine Shop in Lake Charles! 👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻 One of the Catapillar dealership’s is right next door to the shop!

On that drive motor heating up if you were running it on 110 that could possibly be why. Especially if you were on the end of an extension cord. If it can be rewired or replugged to run on 220 it would probably run cooler. Double voltage half the current. Most stuff from over the pond were set up to run on 220. Great video as usual.

@martintijdgat6269 I don't know why some of us here in the states still refer to 110V. It hasn't existed in over 50 years. It's 120V and 240V and if you check it with a Fluke normally you will see up to 124V and 248V on the meter

Clint, Europe and UK use 3 phase power converted at 380/415 volts at 50 hertz or cycle speed. It is likely that you might need a phase converter to correct the voltage and raise it up to match the 415 v. US 3 phase is typically 308v at 60 hertz. The simple solution would be to talk with a local electrician who knows the conversion process and see what the best solution is.🤙

Thats what I was thinking. If the motor is set up for 230V, Then 115 V would make it run hot. Unless it has some kind of an inverter drive that automagicly changes the voltage.

I spent countless hours lining boring, that was one job I throughly enjoyed. You did a very nice job with it, and I like the adaptors you made up. That’s one thing I found is that one is only limited by the imagination as to how adapt the line bore to fit the project. It was an interesting job for sure. Hang in there Mason, they’re just jealous of ya😊. Thanks for the video and I appreciate your time making them. BTW, we used B&D line bores out of Sudbury Canada, don’t know if they are still in business though.

I think you did a fine bore welding job and a great Boring job. I worked on a line boring machine at KiwiRail for 8 years. welding up some parts of DC traction motors, but mainly reboring them. The traction motors were about four feet long and weighed about a ton, in the stripped-down state, that is with the electromagnets removed. The bull gear shaft was about 6 inches in diameter. The armature bores were about 6 inches, while the flange end was about 18 inches in diameter. Id adjust the cutting tool by having a dial test indicator resting against the cutting tool and with the tool locking bolt slightly loosened and tapping the tool out for a cut. I had a tolerance of plus or minus .0015. inches.

Great job keeping small amounts of rubble under control and makes it saleable or reusable. I have been thinking of getting one for a while now. It is a big enough outlay but if you look at it over several years of use and the odd hobb where you can recycle material on site its a good investment. Mayby a piece of conveyor belt rubber mointed from dynamic jaw to the top somehow would keep debris from the ram

Overseas standard outlets are 220-240v and 50hz. I'd say the hertz/frequency is probably the problem with the motor running hotter.

On the line boring equipment. Sir Mechanica out of Italy makes some good equipment. Your motors might be 220 volt 50 hertz that’s what most countries in Europe use for standard tools. The company bought a mechanical bore welding machine and it was a whole lot better and easier! Then we got a job welding the I.D.’s of pipe nozzles and that was Inconel, they had to buy a special welding machine for that application!

They call it Chenglish, and yes they do have different power settings in that country. On electronics there is normally a switch that allows one to change the voltage from 220(China) to 115(US)! Many devices are defaulted to 220 and will let out the magic smoke if you do not change to 115 before plugging in.

I worked on Toro loaders. The pins and bushes are fitted using liquid nitrogen . Ja well no fine. I went out to a mine about 20 years ago . They could't change a lift cylinder because the pins were frozen in there , not even a jack could get them out. When I got to the workshop up on surface one genius had already packed explosive around the bottom pin so i moved my truck out of the area and waited for them to nuke it. They did. There was an enormous bang and a cloud of dust and smoke. When it all cleared we went back up to see what happened and the front frame looked like it had been hit by a landmine , but the pin was still firmly in place . They had to get a new machine.

As other people have mentioned, Europe runs everything on a higher voltage. So, you likely don't have enough juice running to it making it work harder. I do know the voltage is different between the states and Europe, but I don't know about what frequency it runs at or if their single phase or three phase are similar. If you got an electrician friend, they could probably figure it out.
