Got this one year ago. Thought it would be nice to review it to potencial buyers.

In my case boretti thermo shows 160~ but inkbird is around 130 at grill height. I bought v2 with 8 holes on per side for 350 euro. I will use this for the next 2 years and get myself a real kamado. Thanks for putting this review, it helped a lot making an educated purchase.

Hi Rob! Thanks for the great review. I’ve had all the problems with my Barilo Grill as you had, I started to see rust already after two months of light use, and the paint startet wearing off on the barrel itself. It turned from black to gray. Used a cover. This was in August last year. What happened next surprise me. I contacted Boretti thru the shop I bought it in, and I got a complete replacement grill without any protest from Boretti. And I could keep the old one. I thought I’ll mention it here in the forum. It could be worth it to contact Boretti if you have quality problems with the grill. I have a feeling it’s a known issue.

Thanks for posting this 1 year review! Pretty much the only one on YT... There is a new version of the Barilo that has a new coating according to the description. Also, the hinges don't rest on the barrel anymore (new design), and I think the ventilation issues should have been solved as well in the meantime. So, it should solve all the issues mentioned in this reviews. I like it for the straightforward design, easy access to get rid of ashes, size, as well as the cast iron grills and cooking plate. Think I'll jump the gun... It's either the Barilo or the Fratello (same design, but with room for 2 grills instead of 3).

I have the Barilo 2.0, and you are right. All issues mentioned in the video has been fixed 🙂

Tnx for the great review! I was really exited to order one of these till I sah your review. Im a big fan many Boretti products so I expect some great quality. The I see the rust on your bbq after one year that my Weber bbq didn't even collect in 8 years of plenty of usage. Is your bbq standing outside in all weather conditions or do you keep it dry from rain?
@jsf768
@jsf768 3 года назад
You need to keep it in its own sealbag or somewhere where it is dry. If you do this regularly you eont see any crust after just 1 year of use

It’a under a roof and the optional bought cover is used. Boretti reacently promised me to sent a new barrel because of the rust issues.

I don’t know how you stored it over the winter but shifting temperatures between plus and minus kills everything including eggs and Webers.
@robpostma1651

You should not store your bbq over winter, you should use it 😬. Rust is a common Boretti problem. I know a company who uses quality bbq’s like primo or kamado joe which are all year in use and outside in all wheather conditions. Still looking fine. This is an old video, got a new boretti replaced because of the rust issues.. After one year samen rust issues. It’s placed under a sealing. Just bad quality. My Weber is over 10 years on the same spot and lookes still like new.

@@robpostma1651 That response answered exactly my question, I think. I had Weber Master-Touch but gave to my friend. Now I considered Master-Touch or Boretti Vitorria. Still a lot better than dollarstore or low-budget garbage.

hi Rob, do you protect the unit against rain and bad weather conditions with a slipcover ( hoes)? I wonder, because your unit is partly build in a construction. And, thx for the review. the price by the way is now easy to get between 369 and 400 €
@robpostma1651
@robpostma1651 3 года назад
Yes I do. The bbq is under a roof And i can slip the cover Just in between the build in. I’ve bin contacting Boretti about the rust isseus after I Made this video and they promissed me a new barrel. So if they do (waiting 4 months now) than at least the service is worth the money😃

@@robpostma1651 I bought it too ( since yesterday in the garden) based on yr. honest video. And because of yr review I know now how to attend the future problem spots with care like oiling them after it is cooled (especially in the long autumn winter period even under a cover and or painting spots with heat-resistant paint.

Thank you for the review. In older reviews i read this bbq had issues obtaining a high and constant heat due to poor ventilation. Have you encountered these problems ?
@robpostma1651

at low temperatures I was able to maintain the temperature well, ideal for pulled pork. I have made a small adjustment to the bbq now with which I can now also keep the bbq at higher temperatures. I sawed 2 slots in the bottom coal receptacle. this means that more oxygen can reach the coal and the temperature is higher.

@@robpostma1651 tnx for your quick reply, what size are these slots and where did you place them exactly ? I plan on buying this bbq (it's now 360€ with a cover included).

@@stefhenrion2580 I made the two openings in the silver collector plate for the coals. right between the handles of that silver collector plate. Made them about 6 cm wide and then folded inwards. this also allows the lower air holes to receive oxygen

@@robpostma1651 I just finished my first run on the barilo, assembled it this morning. The ash tray has now 8 or 10 holes on either side and the air inlets have now 4 holes each instead of 2. with one charcoal tray filled i was able to maintain a temperature of 175°C for almost 2 hours. So no complaints until now :)

Mine is about three years now and now issues of rust yet. Every two months I use arachide oil to give the Barilo a gentle rub. It prevents rust and is way more easy to clean. My only complaint is the drop of temperature when closed. I saw some fixes but love to see some pictures. That would make the bbq perfect.
