Bercow - the worst House of Commons Speaker that has ever been, is the sort of person who criticises those who are better than him. His attitude to Parliament was disgusting and he should have been ousted long before he finally was.
@Johnnie W I can't speak for others but a Speaker has to be absolutely neutral and deal equally with all MPs regardless of party. He clearly did no such thing over many years as he bridled at any challenge rather than quietly explain an issue. He would quite happily insult a member and smile while doing so. despicable individual. His actions during Theresa May's premiership as she tried (in her way) to deliver what the British people had decided was absolutely scandalous. He allowed spurious arcane mechanisms from the 1600s to enable the Remain side to thwart everything she did while denying simple orders to the Leave side. He ignored precedent when it suited him and then used precedent when it did. He was suspected of being a closet Remainer and Socialist and this was proven to be correct when he joined the Labour Party.
It's his smug arrogance that had him elected PM. There are a lot of people who believe in the right of the toff to treat all of us as if we were idiots. Boris was an embarrassment for the whole nation. Shocking indeed!
I have read a lot of your comments and agree with them all except this one, there truly is no PM that has been worse than Johnson, none of the others locked people away while he partied.
Boris allowed travellers in to the UK from anywhere, saying " Britain is still open for Business" without pre Covid19 tests getting on to planes or Covid tests after arriving at an Airport in Britain, at a time when Italy had 100 of 1000s Ill and dying from it. He continued this policy when Italy, France and Spain went into lockdown. Remember his comments about wanting the British people to catch Covid so they would be emune to it, the more and sooner everyone got it the sooner our economy would pick up as they could return to work. What a lack of leadership, what stupidity when compared with other countries leaders. He saw it as a race against the EU to have one up on them not about the well being of his citizens as PM . The results of this policy is Britain holds the record for the most Deaths from Covid than any other Eouropean Country. Johnson acted criminally and as PM is supose to be there to protect the British people not just the economy, which failed anyhow when he eventually went into Lockdown. On top of that his policies were nieve and his dreamed up big ideas too expensive to be achievable with our economy as it is. Johnson came to power on the back of "Getting Brexit Done", well he said he got Brexit done and the NI boarder was sorted, his team had negotiated a good deal for Britain. Now we hear from Farage and the Leavers Brexit wasn't done! That the NI agreement is causing problems and his decision to leave with no ties to the EU is effecting the British economy, that his decision not to continue with the EU Dublin agreement is why we have a problem with refugees coming across from France because under the Dublin agreement a country can send them back to any country they passed through to get to Britain. Johnson chose to pull out of that agreement even though we didn't need to be in the EU to kep it. Then we find he had Parties and lied about them, even worse since leaving he joked in a recent speach, he had parties were social distancing was not followed, that's his big joke in a speech. So what policies did Johnson do right or are you blinded by his charisma?
Sorry people but whenever I see Boris I think of our dearest Queen sitting alone at Phillips funeral. The Queen obeyed the COVID rules but Boris stuck two fingers up at the rules.
He had no problem with the UK Parliament handing over powers to the EU without a vote or debate. However, he was obtrusive when it came to the UK taking back powers. He opposed Trump coming to Parliament but invited the Saudi and the Chinese political leaders. Hypocrisy. However, he stopped May forcing through her poor deal.
@Johnnie W Every single directive or EU ruling which affected UK daily life. On average there are 80 directives, 1200 regulations and 700 decisions per year.

People can have their opinions on Boris but one thing for sure is he sorted out Bercow. He restored democracy to the country from the clutches of people like Bercow.
@@alexd7029 He definitely has his faults but without his qualities there would be no brexit and when there was brexit it would never have been implemented. It's all about democracy for me. The people having their say, not the media elites or the labour or tory or EU elites.

'not fit for office' is a rather snobbish expression that essentially throws aside the democracy in favour of the views of people with supposedly higher minds. The only time I would expect to hear somebody described as 'not fit for office' is if they are incapacitated, have unspent criminal convictons or suffer from a mental impairment caused by a documened physiological disorder.

The man who over 18 months connived with Starmer, Grieve, Letwin and the other treacherous MPs to thwart the democratically expressed will of the British people and by doing so brought the Mother of all Parliaments into huge disrepute. He is far too fond of his own voice and has an ego bigger than the Queen Elizabeth Tower (aka Big Ben). After his first answer I couldn't take any more of his verbose exaggeration.
He is trying to show humility and that he thinks fairly, rationally and objectively. He then says the Tories are hard right ! He completely undermines the impression he was trying to give up until that point (IMO)

My local Conservative MP, normally someone who keeps his thoughts to himself, told me how much better the House functioned and how much of the 'nastiness' disappeared as soon as Bercow left.

If you watched Lindsay Hoyles acceptance of the chair speech, it was quite clear what he thought of Bercow by virtue of the objectives for his own position. Lindsay has never made his brexit views known nor has he ever had to answer the charge that he likes his own voice too much as Bercow does in this video, as if it was just a normal part of being in politics. Lindsay made it clear it was his intention to take on a less visible role because the chair is not the centre of the show, it is as Bercow says (but does not adhere to) merely the facilitator of the parliamentary agenda. That Bercow developed a fan club and a hate club should have been a cause of great concern to him as the public shouldn't have had enough material to have even be able to form a view of his opinions but rather than play this down or try to minimise this development, he relished in it and made himself into a celebrity of whichever circles would have him. It is a testament to how good Hoyle is being that he can conduct parliament affairs without being the centre of attention.
Worst speaker we ever had. Incapable of reigning in his control issues and ego. He did not serve The House, he served his ego, his opinion and was a bias that was unacceptable for his position. Odious man.
