Apoplectic Speaker goes fully mental at Boris Johnson

In an uproarious sessions of Prime Minister's Questions, Keir Starmer quizzes Boris Johnson over Northern Powerhouse Rail and standards in public life, as the government is increasingly engulfed in a corruption scandal.
However, Speaker Lindsay Hoyle was involved more in the session than he would've liked, repeatedly rebuking Johnson for questioning Starmer. At one point Hoyle is forced to order Johnson to his seat, stating "You may be the prime minister, but in here, I'm in charge."

@danielcarver936
@danielcarver936 2 года назад
It's a Catch-22 situation. Boris can't be thrown out of Parliament because it's PM's Questions and it would be seen as a way of denying the public the right to hold the PM to account. But the speaker cannot name the PM because that requires a vote in the same way as legislation. I cannot imagine that the Conservatives would ever vote to name the Prime Minister and get him thrown out. But again, if that were to happen then see previous point about denying the public. So whilst he can't do it forever, Boris knows when to push buttons and how far he can push them. It's a rather annoying trait of his.

No other job in the world you can lie, cheat and steal and still have a job. And worst still… be rewarded for this type of behaviour.

So Boris made huge drama of accusing the opposition leader of misconduct and dodged the question he was asked. Nice.

So many people writing about the ineffective speaker. And yet so many mocked Bercow. He was exactly what schoolboys like these deserved !

I like Lyndsay. We need a speaker who tells the Prime Minister to shut up and sit down when he's in the wrong.

@Zippy Rainbow I wouldn't call this one performance "far from ineffective". For most of his time he has been completely ineffective. He seems to have woken up, lets hope he doesn't fall asleep again.

It's only taken a year or two...imagine if he'd attempted to stamp this out at the start.

It would have been too obvious - slowly draining the country of wanting to listen to politics, post-Brexit occuring and even without the pandemic happening, this has worked in his favour by wearing us all down to the point of apathy and not caring. It's sickening.

@@MrPete81 To be fair I don't think the majority of the population really pay attention to anything but slogans and whatever end of the rainbow promises they think will benefit them directly.

If I remember rightly this speaker was brought in as a loyal non-challenging Tory, just as Bercow was before him. And both men were taught by their position to learn disdain and (too late) rebellion.

They're all liars from the sound of it. It's just about who has more knowledge of each other's scandalous acts.
