This amazing animal was found by one of the rangers at Borneo Rainforest Lodge (one of the greatest lodges in the world in my opinion). In the last few years the set up at this luxury lodge has changed and now the guides all carry radios so they can connect with each other if anything good is sighted. Thank God for that. Due to this new system, despite being a good kilometer from where the leopard was first seen, we still got to see it. We raced there (in record time), and were actually the last of the lodge guests to make it there that morning. Thankfully though the leopard was too busy resting in the heat of the day to worry about us below, or think about moving on. We were truly lucky to be able to watch this rare forest animal for around 2 hours, when we left to go back for lunch, leaving the leopard still snoozing above. Apparently around 1-2 pm the animal slowly moved down from the tree (with only the ranger left there watching it by then), and slinked off into the forest. I believe we were very, very lucky to see a Bornean Cloud Leopard for so long in broad daylight, not something that happens very often. Danum Valley, and Borneo Rainforest Lodge are probably the best site in the world for the species but it can take multiple trips to see one. This was my 6th trip to Borneo.
