Boro-inspired coat, using Sashiko stitching; it's a hand-made coat using a Japanese technic that looks stunning!
It took me 10 weeks, but it is finally done!
I had more than 20 shirts, 18 trousers and a few jackets in the wardrobe that had not been worn in years. So, I decided to upcycle them. That's my small contribution to the planet.
On the very first day I wore it to go to the supermarket, a person passed by me at the till and said: "I love your coat!"
My inspirations came from two amazing artists I got suggested on my RU-vid feed. I fell in love with Boro style and I had to make one for myself. You can check my inspiration videos below:

Beautiful coat! Thank you for the detailed tutorial. Love the design. Oh, and Lola loves it, too. That's what she was telling you, I think.

Wow, I learned SO MUCH, and I am rather experienced in all things needle related. I have been on a mission recently to focus on wearable art. Although it might seem a bit tedious to watch it in real time, so doing so while listening to the music put me in a Zen zone to where I FELT and internalized the process. It is not perfection of technical ability but rather the spirit of creating that matters. Will watch the video many times as I continue on my Japanese creative sewing journey. Thank you for making this video and sharing.

I think you've done a splendid job. If it is to be a winter hanten/kimono, I would have given it a layer of wadding in order to keep warm. Otherwise it will be a jacket/coat for autumn and spring. Lola is just so nice so it doesn't matter if she pops in now and again 😊. Greeting from Norway.

The Siamese Stitch is the most revered...a classic. Very even stitch work; great repurposed items. Too bad Home Ec is no longer manditory requirement for HS education. Projects like this one...combining recycling, different cultures, and customs...would satisfy many interests.

OK Mr. Snotty Pants, I watched the whole video just to spite you! Maybe I should start making YT videos and we could have a Sashiko head-to-head:D One of my problems is I live in the tropics and rarely get to wear a jacket, much less something as heavy as yours. Still working on my first piece so maybe I'll send you a pic of the finished "Boro-Boro-Tropical" !!!! xoxoxox and aloha from Hawaii.

I know I’m a bit late to this comment (and of course I’m not the creator of the video), but if I had to guess I believe that may be size-10 crochet thread.

What is that tape You put on de patches... Seen in this RU-vid at 12 minutes and 53 seconds??? What is it called??? ... Is it to Keep the patches in its place?? Before sewing??
@andersonsantos8988
@andersonsantos8988 2 года назад
Iron-on fusing tape or hem tape. It’s to keep the patches in place whilst seeing.
@andersonsantos8988
@andersonsantos8988 2 года назад
Any iron-on hem tape will do, so that the patches dont move

As others pointed out, unnecessary to keep saying "you won't keep watching". Not to mention I cannot understand the need for minutes long intros. Put up a 5 second placard and get into it! At any rate, self-fulfilling prophecy is self-fulfilling, I just can't get into this pacing and text.

You can speed up a YT video uo to 2X its normal speed. Google it for directions to do so.

If the many people who stop watching after the first couple of minutes are like me, they likely quit watching because there essentially is no instruction on the process, nothing to grab the the attention to maybe want to try this project. It's all music, you are pretty much trying to put your audience to sleep.
