Love this video, I nievely had an idea 40 years ago to paddle from Asharth Falls to Hull on the longest day for charity. I would have been lucky to get to York ! The peace and tranquility looked amazing. On Aldwark Manor Golf Club, they re-designed it a few years ago, one tee shot is over the river from the left bank near the footbridge you went by. Some shots dont clear it, glad you got by ok ! Thanks for a great video Karl.
That would have been helluva paddle Keith - you'd need camping gear I reckon! That's an interesting bit about the golf course. I didn't know one shot was across the river hahaha
Excellent stuff buddy..Looked like a superb trip & yes I use the same deck bag which is excellent value & very handy.. Can I ask are the waterproof socks any good & what is the washing procedure like?? Thinking I might get some for winter. Jon F Angry Ducks
Cheers Jon :) The socks are these - amzn.to/3VxaM2G and washing is fine - for drying I found it best to dry them both inside and out i.e. I hang mine and dry the outer first then turn them inside out to dry the inner 👍😀 I've dunk tested them. I'll post the short under here...
I just purchased .the k1 challenger. I have completed courses in open boats and been in a kayak. I never liked the instability and just want to paddle smooth waters. I am trying to find lakes and canals in my area. We have the Stroud water canal. I have asked the trust in charge about where to launch. I will go and have a look before trying it out. I found your video on mooring knots very useful. I was trying to get in a canoe at a club and the boat slid out and I went in. Far better to tie up and keep the boat steady.
Now That’s a pint well earned. What a great paddle! So picturesque and peaceful! Shame about the rain but you’ve been through worse lol! Bet you slept well that night!!!😜 Only been out in mine once this year!!☹️
Yeah it was great especially as there was so much open countryside between the two. I ended up staying in the pub til closing time and getting a taxi home. I slept like a baby 😅
Hello 👋 thanks for your lovely videos. I'm sorry to ask you. What brand and type of watch you wear? I'm interested because I do like to know the distance and speed. Many thanks Giuseppe
Lovely trip and video, Karl. I was wondering about this kayak, but i'm not sure if i might be too tall for it at 5"10? I've read that some struggle at that height. wonder what you think of that as someone who's used it extensively. It's difficult as I'm sure it's better than the Aqua Spirit but that one is 300 quid cheaper.
I'm the same height as you so can't see you having any issues. I'm regular leg length in trousers and if you are too... Well you know what I'm saying. If you have any concerns the 130 might be a better option. As for the differences between the Aqua Spirit - it depends what's more important to you. The Deschutes 110 weighs only 8kg. It's all one piece meaning you don't have to remove a floor chamber when drying and reinstall it. It'll pack down to about ½ the size of the AS. It doesn't come with any extras (that you'll probably have to replace after a while anyway). If money is the key factor for you at the moment then I'd go for the AS, but if not, I'd consider the Deschutes 👍😁
Good vid. I noticed you managed to put the kayak on the bus , I no longer have a car, did you have any problems. Also, how small does the twist 2 pack down to ? Many thanks in advance
Loving this, those Garmin watches are brilliant, I like how it records your canoeing. what do you think of the Telsin neck mount. Just got one yesterday and havent tried it out yet.
Yeah I've got the Fenix 6x pro but I prefer the one in this video the Instinct Solar. I quite like the neck mount. You maybe won't have noticed but the POV paddling shots behind the paddle were taken using it.
It adds another viewpoint which I like. Especially as I'm not a fan a kayaking videos using head cams! They're just way too jerky. The head cam works for you because on the bike your focus is predominantly front focus :)
Just getting in to the kayaking. was wondering about water licence for them? also ive seen you camp out next to the canals do you need any special permit for that?
@@Certarl no you don't need a permit to camp. However it is best to find quiet areas and be nice to any CRT staff and surrounding landowners, and don't leave any rubbish... All things I'm sure you'd do anyway. For canals and some rivers you need a licence however don't rush into that. You can always explain you're new to it and just trying it out if anyone questions you. I've never been questioned.
@@MoreThanJustaCleaner done a huge amount of bushcraft camping just never with a boat. Thanks for the fast reply I'm loving your videos, I'm based just a stones throw from the Calder that leads on to the Aire and then into the river ooze so who knows may cross paths one day. I'll keep an extra beer in my pack just in case.
