Until 2020 (pandemic), most Canadians would have proudly & quickly said Canada is a great place. For multiple generations (young & old). It still is in many ways. But like all countries, a bunch of things have made life more difficult lately. During the COVID lockdowns, many people in apartments (or major cities) went nuts wanting to buy homes everywhere (urban & rural). Increasing demand and rising prices. Not long after, inflation caused mortgage rates especially to rise. Rent costs have soared too. People interested in working in hospitals declined. Less doctors etc.. Simultaneously in Canada, the number of people coming by air, land and boat to claim asylum SKYROCKETED. For example, in 2023 alone, in just one region (Ontario) around 275 people arrived per day (on average). Ditto for other populated provinces. Also the number of international students skyrocketed too. Averaging around 1,096 per day in 2023 alone. Hospitals then hit with many wanting free healthcare. Less doctors/nurses etc., means greater waiting times. A severe housing crisis has occurred in many western countries including in Canada. In ways not seen in people's lifetimes. The majority trying to migrate to Canada recently have been from South Asia. And it's become extremely obvious to Canadians. Even those that are very used to much diversity & many cultures. Unfortunately not all players have acted honestly over the years. False asylum claims. Foreign 'agents' deceiving students for $. Plus some Canadians, a portion with ties overseas, became greedy and started doing things to make $ off of people's desperation. Then this year throw in all the Palestinian vs Israeli angry protests happening regularly in cities. Plus the Sikh vs Hindu violence/extortion happening in Ontario and BC. All stemming from affairs in the Asian continent. Hate crimes went from rare to occasional. Canadians are not used to all this. So many, who have embraced multi-culturalism and immigration for decades are now worried and fearful (due to all of the above). And all are praying it doesn't turn into great anger (like in the USA). Canadians want multi-culturism to succeed … and for all people to be okay. Everyone I know is HAPPY with Canada Immigration's recent changes. Including multi-generation long-term Asian Canadians.

I came to Canada as a Student 11 years ago and things were better then but in the past 1-2 years I have been advocating to my friends/relatives who want to come to Canada to drop their dream and pursue some other country. Even if you do get a high-end paying job which top around $130k-$170k you won't qualify for a Loan to buy a House in this country, you will have to go to Sub-urban areas that are 1-2 hours of Work Commute to afford one and then too you would need a huge down-payment to afford a loan. Canadian Goverenment has made Immigration a business and they are bringing in around a million people yearly and making profits off them through Immigration Fees, 3-4 times Education fees, Rents, Taxes and making them work in super-low paying jobs (average salaries here are $30000 annually). And all this while the Infrasturcture is crumbling & owning a House is becoming a distant dream.

These are courses no company hires for : nobody trusts their company’s capital to be managed by graduates that never worked in the industry (or better yet never managed people) The gov stopped subsidizing Universities directly in 1990’s That’s why they team up with agents in India selling you the BIG dream Blame the agents they and the universities are the one to get you in this place Canada doesn’t need hospitality managers : it needs trades people, engineers, healthcare workers on the ground, oil frackers, heavy duty mechanics, electricians , plumbers (the stuff that keeps the country running) If you want jobs mentioned above I assure you will make $$$$ get the top foreman’s position(management) in 4 years within the same ammount of time it takes you to complete a worthless degree

While some of their reasoning may be logical, the vast amount seems like a mania to me. The student visa application form clearly says that a student visa is given on the basis that the student gets his education and comes back to home country. There is no guarantee that a masters in canada will result in a job in canada. Thats why it is essential that students do due diligence about the university from the university ranking websites and speak to college alumni. Also students have to remind themselves that they may have to look for jobs outside canada as well if things don't work out.

I live in Canada as an immigrant. Students who want to come here please listen. Do not fall for all the rosy pictures shown by the colleges. They just need your money. They are least concerned about you getting a job after studies. Most of the international students end up working in a field which is not related to their studies. The government and the colleges will never show you the true picture coz Canada runs on immigrants money. Immigration is the lifeline of Canada. Do not come here. Staying in your country and struggling is much better than you coming here and struggling.

Agreed. The colleges have seen very low demand from our local students, combined with reduced subsidies from our provincial governments. So many of them won’t survive without international student money. Sadly, the joke is on the international students that the colleges don’t have the means to house, or help to find jobs after they graduate.
@wildkindness2223

Why would you say immigration is a lifeline for Canada? Are you referring to corporations and the elite? The colleges do the same to people born here in different ways. They may state something ljke a 95% success rate for grads finding jobs but they don't say it's not truly in the field of study. When I first was considering college I was thinking if there's 80 students in this course are there 80 jobs in the area? It is true that only maybe so many finish the course and even fewer find decent jobs in the field but... take it from there.

I am not shocked or surprised with what ANI is trying to show here. Anyone with a little bit of common sense will know this reality. Not to be rude, but the universities these 2 folks are studying in are neither among any top college in Canada nor the courses they choose have much prospects. I see there is mostly a craze in northern India, specially places like Punjab, Haryana, Delhi etc to go and just settle abroad, like going to a foreign country is their ultimate goal and life would be like a fairy tale there. All colleges in the world showcase a rosy picture to attract students. It the duty of the students to do their due diligence to find out how these universities are in real. Problem is the expectation that life will just magically change when you go to a foreign country. You should only go abroad and study if it’s one of the top universities and you know you are a top talent, else prepare to throw your money down the drain. I have seen so many people over the years I met at work who studied abroad and came back to India to work after spending a bomb abroad on their study. Also there is always a hustle phase, where you need to compromise on your life. Even people who have jobs with a constant paycheck hustle with things like accommodation everywhere in the world. These 2 are just cribbing about the accommodations they got. I mean as a student where were you expecting to stay? Please come to Bangalore, Gurgaon and see the condition of PGs working IT folks are living in.

students of our country need to understand that definitely the quality of life in our country may seem low in compared to these western countries but this is an "era of transition" in our country, you have to be the part of this era to make your country a better place, it only comes once in 100 years and we have to grab this opportunity. Definitely these countries may seem like lala land but they will never provide you the emotional support you get from your soil. We definitely have to work more harder here but its better to make your country great and prosperous and lead at some point of time, rather than becoming servants in other countries and struggle their so much.

A non-Indian here of course. But I remember way back that student visas were only granted to those who could demonstrate they would be able to support themselves for the ENTIRETY of their course with a view to returning home after completion. Where I blame the Canadian government is making it easier for international students to gain PR once their course is complete - it has lead to an abuse of the student visa system with a lot of international students who technically cannot afford their courses hoping they can find an easier way to stay in Canada anyway. Now, looking at it from the side of a Canadian citizen, I simply cannot see a reason for, nor agree to taxpayer money being allocated to “help” international students from any country, nor the roll of universities or businesses to make life easier for them. All of the issues I saw in the video would be resolved if a student comes to Canada with enough money to cover tuition and living expenses. If there is no one guiding you you can easily get lost. Depends on what your end goal is. If you want to settle and do any type of work and work within debt/credit cards then yes you can make it. Otherwise if you want to be successful early and have savings then you should stay and find professional work or run a business etc in a less expensive country.

This documentary, "Borrowed Dreams: The Canadian Experience," is a must-watch for those considering studying in Canada. It uncovers the hidden challenges faced by Indian students, contrasting their high hopes with harsh realities like the housing crisis, healthcare issues, and job opportunities. The importance of research before studying abroad is underscored, as it dispels the vibrant image often portrayed online. This thought-provoking documentary questions the support provided to international students in Canada, making us reconsider if the Canadian experience is worth it. I thought that was so irresponsible when even those of us who were born here are struggling to find entry level positions with a degree, then housing was sky rocketing every year. There were lucky few who got their dream. I also remember being on my way home from university stuck in a snowstorm and the buses stopped, good winter coat and boots were too expensive for me as a student, so all I had were light sneakers... Almost a year now in Canada. It really depends on the type of person you are, if you think you’ll have a good relaxing life in Canada by looking in the Internet you’ll have a hard reality check when you reach here like the girl on the video. But if you are an aspiring student, you choose a good university, right courses and programmes and really work hard and keep on learning and working on yourself everyday, this country will reward you, this is a really beautiful country. I love India as my country but Canada is a very meritocratic country, you get what you deserve on the amount of work you put in and I agree Canada has lots of problems right now but no country in this world is perfect, if you just focus on the negatives all you’ll see is flaws so you just need to have a positive perspective.

it is same everywhere! when a student from a Tier 2 town comes to a Metro city in India. They have similar experiences. We need to understand that. Also, 99% students going to Canada are not going their for education; it is a easier route to Canadian PR. They want to settle abroad and not return to India after studies. Studying Vs Immigration is an entirely different ball game. If your motto is just Studying, only University Education and not colleges should be focus be it in Canada or anywhere else around the globe.

What an irrational comparison. Even those who are genuinely going there to study would certainly want an ROI. Their aim would be to stay there for a couple of years and earn handsomely to secure their future. And it is a no brainer that Canada is better than India in a lot of aspects and Canada has (at least until now) made it fairly easy for the immigrants to earn a PR in a stipulated time frame. Keeping the aforesaid in mind, who would like to come back to India after their Canadian education and work experience?
@ft1725
@ft1725 8 месяцев назад
@@handsomejack8259The truth of the matter is many Indians encounter your first real understanding of race and class difference in a Western country to which you are brainwashed to hold higher than your native country. The Canadian citizens want exceptional Indian immigrants who come from families that don’t have to take out loans so they can study in Canada. Even these exceptional Indians are lower on the socioeconomic ladder than a Canadian citizen who’s been there since they were babies. The citizens do not want to subsidize Indian students’ education fees and although tuition is unequal when comparing citizens to internationals, it is not unfair. Many Indians who have come to study, study nonsense subjects the Canadian economy does not need. Culinary management is a bullshit diploma program. The same thing with healthcare management. Get degrees in nursing, get trade jobs and apprenticeships like electricians, etc. Also, many Indian students believe they are good at speaking English until they arrive in the country. Many have thick accents that are highly incomprehensible to native English speakers. This language barrier makes it much harder for Indian immigrants who don’t have a fluent level of English to understand the social nuances and implications of their actions. Canadians will observe your behavior to see if you have your head on straight. Many immigrants from India do not. The citizens see a lack of self respect in a lot of Indian international students’ behavior. If your source of getting to know Canada came from immigration officers who make money off you, tv which advertises and lies to everyone, and third parties who are not inclined to tell you the whole truth as a way of saving face, it is largely your fault for being so naïve. If you want to do better in Canada as a collective Indian internationals first need to speak, write, read, and listen to more English. They must be fluent before even applying to study in Canada. This is the foundation to everything else to do okay in Canada. Indian internationals need to apply to programs that are necessary for the Canadian economy. For instance, Canada needs more nurses. Indian internationals should not rely on getting a part time job to fund their education in Canada. They need to be exceptional enough to get a scholarship or economically stable enough to pay for the education themselves. Finally, Indian internationals should understand there is a reason why many Canadians who don’t have an Indian background don’t want to go to India, but Indian international students from India want to come to Canada. What that means is Indian internationals need to understand there will be race and class differences that manifest in the way people react to a Canadian born citizen to an Indian international student. Is this fair? No. But knowing this, and knowing what you will do about it will serve you much better in the long run.

I have been in Canada for few years now. I’m really surprised that the housing crisis was not found by these students on the internet.The whole internet is flooded with articles on Canada’s housing crisis, so many instagram reels/ Vlogs etc. I am really doubting the skill sets of these students. Most of the students in the video are students who are weak in academics or mediocre in academics and general skill sets. I did my masters from one of the top universities and none of my classmates or myself did odd jobs during studies and every one got a decent job post that and today all are doing well too. So the key here is not to come to colleges for studies.. no body goes to USA to colleges because US doesn’t have that. The colleges in Canada are not good but very easy to get admission and obviously these students want easy route. On the other hand it’s not easy to get admission in good universities like university of toronto, Waterloo etc.. students who study here do very well. The situation in Canada is not ideal but everyone knows about it. Not doing proper research and getting into bad colleges or courses is like setting one up for failure right from the get go.. the vision itself is wrong

Here per year the fees is 20L minimum, so 80 lakhs total. It is the same situation everywhere, to a greater or a lesser degree. If you have loads of money to burn, you can go, but don't expect that you'll get a very well - paying job in what you qualified for. Even if you do, you will face racism, overt & covert, and often you'll accept it psychologically, thinking that because you are brown & in a foreign country, you aren't good enough & must do better than your white counterparts - this is very detrimental to your mental health & ultimately affects your physical health too. Please stop thinking that your talent & hard work will be appreciated - it isn't - in many cases, it is seen as a threat. It is better to stay in India, especially, if you've got to take a loan out for your education abroad, especially, in non-important subjects, however, fancy the course title may be. If you are surrounded by Indians in a foreign country, in your school, workplace & social get togethers, then you aren't in a foreign country. And quite frankly, irrespective of what the white folks tell you about how welcome you are, what is welcome to them is your cash, your cheap labour & your quiet submission to their superiority.

A full course fee + at least 1 year of expenses should be arranged before going international. This will help you focus first on your studies and with time you will find a way to secure a job. And crib we international students work so hard doing part time job to make ends meet. Really want to earn and do good . Second they come to canada because these colleges are cheap from international standard as they pay $8-9k per semester . Which part of the world pay such a low fees . Don’t blame this on a country , when you yourself are dying to come to canada just to get a passport by selling home , land etc . And coming to property rent is because of immigrant (specially Chinese and Indian buying multiple houses ) .

The soap that can be used to wash off the hands would be that every student does mention in the Statement of Purpose about leaving the country after studies- any failure to highlight this statement mostly ends up in rejection of the student visa. So a year of study is complemented by a GIC of 10k dollars that facilitates basic expenses with permission to work part time to make a few extra bucks. Unfortunately- the entire motive behind coming to Canada on a study permit is different which in the first place is a flawed idea and to make it worse the rosy picture that people paint on social media hiding all the laborious slog that goes on in the background. And when a few try to showcase the reality- they are being pounced upon with statements such as a way to reduce competition to the ones who are already there.

No college or any governments in Canada offers any employment or immigration to these students. Most of these students are misguided by immigration agents in India. Just ask the students to look into their student visa acceptance letter. They are supposed to study and go back.

Reality check is necessary but it's the best when it comes from someone who is living the Canadian dream. I came to this country 7yrs ago and after initial struggles and hurdles I am very well settled here. Persistence and hardwork is the key... anything is possible anywhere. I am better off here than I was in India for sure. You do miss family and it's hard to create and maintain friends, other than that it's a beautiful dream to live and cherish !

Based on my experience abroad and research around this, My conclusion for students would be India's future growth is unimaginable, so it also going to reflect on education, startup culture, and rule over freelance space. A country like Canada, the UK, or another so-called developed country will not fall any near to India. See the future. Be wise. Instead of spending 20+ lakhs in abroad, start a business in India, you will love your decision believe me.

The pay gap is immensely huge between both countries. yes, u need to struggle a bit in whichever country u go to to make the maximum profit out of your investment. 20 lakh will get u a business near to a tea shop and not even that.

Students need to understand if you were told something wrong, it is not Canadian government fault. I am not saying Canada is perfect country, but here are some of my point after watching this video. 1. The reason why overseas students pay triple the fees is that government colleges / universities receive government grants for local students to make study affordable, but offcourse they wouldn't give those discounts to international students who are coming just for that purpose. 2. The job along with study is not promised even after you graduate they permit you to work here, but it is optional. At the time of visa, they wanted to make sure that you go back to your country and you have sufficient funds to pay for study and your lodging. At that time, sometimes fake papers are being prepared. 3. Health system is not great, but most of the countries who gives free health care has no perfect systems, but if you get a heart attack or even critical disease, you wouldn't pay anything from your pocket. So the best advice for students who are considering to come to Canada, you should have sufficient funds or you should consider something else

A good 25-minute documentary. My comments, though, are: - First off, many, if not most international students, come here to study, but their ultimate goal is to work and get permanent residency. To say/think otherwise is just fooling oneself. - International students are all adults, and blaming Canada for the dismal weather, 'sky high' tution fees, poor healthcare, no jobs, housing issues, etc., is no excuse for the decision they made to go to Canada. Have Indians made the best of winter here by going ice skating, skiing, or indulging in other outdoor winter sports? The 'sky high' fees were known to them upfront before applying for a student visa. - Canada has no obligations towards international students. If one had done their due diligence before seeking a student visa, didn't like it here, they did not have applied for a student visa. Canada did not force them to come here. - As for the woman in the documentary. ALL is bad about Canada, but it seems she is still in Canada and has not returned to India. Why?

As a SAsian International here in Europe, i must say the situation seems to be dire in the North. The focus shouldn't be where but what to study. It seems if you cannot pay the price then the advertisement may have not been for you. It is this easier access to PR that drives most of us to country like Canada. I pay much less tuition here but I have to make up my mind right to learn language and skills so that European countries will let me contribute in the economy and stay for longer period.

Just think logically unlike the students featured here, how can there be more jobs in Canada, which has a much smaller economy than India? How many restaurants can a small town of 50,000 people have? What is the qualification of people working in such restaurants - you'll find that they are often just Class X pass. You think they want to work with a more qualified, brown foreigner in any sector & reduce their chances of promotion? They tolerate you & only if there's no one else to do the job. In many instances, especially if you are good, you are set up to fail one way or another. That's the reality.

Imho foreign education is worth it only if one gets in top 4-5 programs of a country, otherwise one is wasting time and money just to be a less than mediocre individual of that country. I mean it's not worth to pay 30-40 lacs to get a job in call centre, or become a plumber, etc. With 30-40 lacs one can easily start a business in Bharat, and one more thing is that 30-40 lacs is just around minimum amount that people pay, actual numbers can easily exceed 60-70 lacs, and in many cases beyond 1cr, just for the tution fee, not the living expenses.

It is worth the mention too, that in my career , I only worked with multinational companies (with English, American, Japanese and French companies) but even when I found a job here in Ontario, my managers didn't even know how to use Outlook to send emails.... still, they were my managers.... the whole bit in finding a job about "connections and refrences" this is scandalous because it should be on meritocracy than connections and strings..... the housing crisis, the taxes, the failing healthcare, CPP.... even as an Immigrant / future citizen, Canada isn't worth it .... even Canadians born and raised are leaving ....This country is the biggest LIE!

It is true and to the point. The Canadian government is making a hefty amount of money from international students, but they do not give them enough credit. Many times, Indian students' applications for Post Graduate Work Permit (PGWP) get rejected, and they have to go through immigration laws. Only a lucky few get the PGWP, but they still find it hard to get adequate jobs and are often used as general labor. After three years, they could be thrown out of the country. However, Canada still keeps calling many international students just to fill up their palate. Indian Govermnent please do something about it.

This is a huge problem that is talked about so less, counsellors in India upsell it too. I really think one must take out a ticket goto the place they want to goto and get a feel of the place before they make such a huge investment (Financially, mentally) One must consider the opportunity cost before making such decisions. Also lot of these institutions sell courses that are mostly self study, I’ve seen many students come and struggle with the culture shock, having to fend for themselves.
