Die grinders are an incredibly popular tool for metal working and automotive professions. While pneumatic die grinders are still widely used in large shops, battery and 110 models are creeping in on those markets. In order to get the power out if a pneumatic tool, you have to have a serious air compressor to back them up. With battery and motor technology, many are starting to look at different options rather than pneumatic to get the job done.

I bought the Makita GD0602 excellent tool, power, smooth, quiet, good carbide bits in and they rip through welds, stainless, coz of the 25.000 rpm can also sharpen tungsten carbide.

Nice and clear explanations and videography. I have a 30k rpm without variable speed trigger. Is it possible to retrofit it with a speed controller? The device is danergous as it rotates at full speed of 30k rpm

for the cost and risk of making your unit slower, it would be smarter to buy the variable speed model. Sorry.

+WorkshopAddict Thanks for your advice. I think the motor inside is a DC motor as it uses a spring carbon brush commutator. Can I connect the power wires of the motor to a battery eg 24v directly and bypass the transformer?

Search for "Router Speed Control Dial" on Harbor Freight. If your unit has a soft start like this Bosch, it may not work.

great review man. i have a question. i got a metabo cordless die grinder with a kit but its only 8,000 rpm? do you think it will do a good job or should i get another metabo that goes up to 25,000 rpm. i work mostly with stainless steel around 3/8 is the thickest material we usually use

Your model will be fine and easier to find bits for, especially for the hard stainless.

ah, so it can use wire wheels. same attachments that can go in a drill it seems?

You have to watch the max RPM of the items you use with a die grinder. Most drill wire wheels are rated for 4500 rpm. You can easily exceed that with a die grinder.

i bought one of those little bits to sharpen my lawn mower blade. i am planning on using it with my little black and decker electric handheld driver.. is this a bad call? i was hoping to get that done tonight.

I am unsure what bit you purchased, so it is very hard to say. If you purchased a stone, you might be OK, but the driver spins very slow compared to these.

MK Outdoor Adventures Most electric drills run 3,200 rpm. Battery drills run 2,100 rpm. Die grinders run 10,000 rpm at the slow speed and up to 40,000 rpm. So, can you use the bits in a drill, yes, but the results will be different.

hello, I need a small hand grinder to do my horses hooves , where can i get a mini angle grinder , short neck. i have been using a regular grinder but it is so dam heavy and i have terrible back problems, i cant find a small hand held angle grinder ? thanks
