Thank you for posting this. I followed you instructions and although my Bosch had a slightly different snap fit cover over the impeller I have successfully repaired it and it is now working again. Hopefully for the next 10 years! Thanks again
Thank you so much for taking the time and trouble to share this information. The “Check water” light came on our Bosch Exxcel dishwasher and although the water entered the dishwasher, it just sat in the bottom and did not circulate through to the washer arms. We followed your instructions and, after taking the side off, found the water inlet completely blocked with gunk, just as you described. After cleaning with bleach and reattaching, the check water light has gone out and dishwasher is now working perfectly. We feel very proud of ourselves now but would never have had the confidence to even try it without your help and guidance. You’ve saved us at best an expensive call out or at worst a new dishwasher. Thank you again so much. We’re so grateful! 😊
You marvellous man making a public video to help solve this problem. You have wonderful communication and teaching skills as well as the technical. You have just made me feel I can tackle having a go at repairing my dishwasher.
Brilliant instructions. I had the second problem, the valve was stuck due to limescale deposits. I cleaned it up with some lemon juice and a lot of shaking and it all seemed like it is going to work until I turned it on and the machine went pop with bang. I think I managed to get some water in the electronics components and it shortcircuited. Hope others are more careful than me!
Excellent video! I wonder how many people pay someone to come out to fix their dishwasher, or decide it’s broken, throw it away and buy another one!! This is simple, straightforward & practical. One happy guy!
Thank you very much sir, my dishwasher is back up and runnings again I had similar build up inside. Mine is a little newer and to remove the plastic you have to unscrew the fittings supplying the water into the dishwasher but so happy that’s fixed now 🙌🙌
Brilliant stuff, thank you for this. Sweetcorn stuck in the spinny thing for us. You saved the environment the cost of new dishwasher. Greta should sing your praises.
Thanks for posting this, mine was constantly trying to drain and would do so with the door open. The fix was the plastic unit on the side as you described in the video. Cleaning it out thoroughly, fixed it. Thanks again!
Thank you so much for sharing. Check water light was on and as explained the water inlet was gunked up. Cleaned as suggested and now working perfectly.
Many thanks for the excellent video; I have just fixed my dishwasher using your video! Both of the clear plastic manifolds inside the RHS were full of some fatty / scaly deposit. I removed both the manifolds and flushed them out with drain cleaner & hot water. Lots of soaking and tapping them on the bottom of the sink and the gunk slid out. Thanks again for taking the time to film and upload!
Thank you so much for this video.I removed everything as suggested and found a broken chopstick blocking the impeller.Machine now working perfectly again.Saved a fortune and better half very impressed.
Well what can I say you just saved me £330 I had a piece of glass on impeller and would not drain... fixed that but still would not run.. was getting ready to order a new one then watched your video again took the side off it was full off water drained it... now running like new... top man
Brilliant. I can only echo others’ comments. You put your finger on the problem and gave the only advice that I could find on how to fix it. Great communication skills, too. Star.
Thank you soooo much!!! You saved our dishwasher and our pockets ;) Very easy to follow the steps, it was the chamber system full with some gross stuff. Cleaned with washing soda and vinegar, all pretty and working now! :)))
Thank you so much for this video. I have a different model but it gave me the confidence to have a go myself. I cleaned out the filters and got it working again easily. You saved me a lot of money and inconvenience with a bit of knowledge and demo. Thank you!
you have just saved me a fortune!.. I had this exact problem on the same model and today followed your video and it worked !!.. only difference being, I put descaler in tubes overnight then blasted the tubes with a garden hose..now back working fully! thank you!
This, THIS is Gold! Thankyou so much - we had the second problem (were familiar with the first one already). Thankyou - Loved how you take the time to explain the function also. Nice work.
Thanks for this. Had to find out how to get top and side panel off in another you tube vid. But this vid helped me fix the check water warning light issue... The plastic thing on the side was all clogged up with foul smelling gunk. Cleaned it out, reassembled & it's now working fine. Many thanks again.
Thank you so much for this video, we had the second problem and I managed to use a couple of cable ties (tying second one in a loop to use as a handle) to poke at the sludge to dislodge from the top and bottom side area. I think removing a ton of sludge from the door seal last week brought on this issue. All seems to be working now. I'd advise anyone doing this (we had a different model) to take photos or video of how things look for when you come to put back together again.
Thanks you very much for going to all the effort to share your experience with the world. Brilliant video, solved my problem and saved me the cost of a new dishwasher!!
Thanks so much. I panicked when the check water light came on last night 😂 This seems to have done the trick. There's a dishwater cleaner doing it's thing right now and all seems to be working again.
We did all of this to no avail (but now have spangly filters!) so anyway, all that stuff eliminated and I now know what to check just as general maintenance. We then discovered another forum where someone talked about the 'Bosch Sludge' that builds up at the bottom of the waste pipe and eventually causes the 'check water' fault. Following their suggestion, we slowly tipped it onto its sides; first fully to the left, and then fully to the right. Have a mop at the ready! It worked. Switched it back on and it was back to the 'washing light'. It almost immediately spewed a load of gunk out of the outlet (so I will empty the U-bend later) and is merrily washing stuff. BOOM!
You are a legend lol. Best video ever! I had a flooded kitchen this morning so followed video no 1 to clear out impeller and found pieces of peanuts and also a clove. Ha ! thought that was problem solved but water warning light was still on so dismantled the side of dishwasher the float chamber was black so took it all apart like you showed us ( my husband nearly had heart attack when he walked in and caught me surrounded by a dismantled machine ! ) I bleached it, hot water hosed it under pressure, got drenched . Reassembled it ..ha water warning light still on so now need to go to video 3 !! ..but I have had fun, learnt a lot and would never have tried it without your video. ..onwards and upwards ..but bless you, thank you lovely man for posting the videos and teaching me something new and I maybe I have nearly fixed it lol !
Marretta Corliss that’s funny! Sounds like you’re having fun with it 👍 Remember to take a look at the case to ensure it’s not full of water 💦 If it is then the case float will rise and prevent filling giving you a check water light. The case float is s red needle like float next to the chamber in video 3. This acts on the switch to stop more water going into the system. If you had a little food then it’s likely water may have entered the case. 👍
Melissa Thank you - found small chicken bone in impella (not sure how to spell that!) also have more recent model so no star drive needed. Used ladel to remove as much water as poss then used cloth to soak up last bits of water - helped keep clear vision. Running it now, hopeful it will be fine as pretty sure it is not supposed to work with chicken bone... do not need to get hubby with bad back to fix it for me now - very pleased!!
This was extremely useful - our dishwasher had the second problem with the water pipes on the side blocked with gunk and fat - a tip that removing the blocked fat in the removable plastic pipes needed us to pour in bleach and leave it for several days until the fat eventually broke down so we could rinse it away and refit it
Thank you sir, for this. It was not even the model, but once I had the idea, I knew what things were. I think you could have a world cruise on the amount of money you have saved the public. I can only assume the thumbs down comments are from washing machine engineers.
Great Video, It helped me solve the drainage issue in my Bosch silence dishwasher in just few minutes! A small piece of broken glass was stopping the impeller! Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Very helpful thanks. On my model the plastic molding was retained by 2 plastic screw fixings one large and one small inside the dishwasher that feed water in/out of the dishwasher.
Thank you for making this video I had this problem just before Christmas so not enough time to get a replacement for man out to fix. Our unit was dry so looked at the water bladder, cleaned it with descaler so found a long skewer really helpful as you can get in on the air vent and use it to dislodge the black deposit and work the float valve free. Put it back together and its working again so great you have saved me either £100 for a repair or £300 for a new machine, and more importantly the dishwasher can now do the Christmas dishes
I decided to check the drain filter first and removed it, although the machine was not flooded. There was quite a lot of grit and fluffy bits and I cleaned out the filter and holder with hot soapy water and an old toothbrush. This seems to have done the trick and the machine is now well into its cycle and the "check water" light has stayed off. I'm surprised that a relatively small amount of matter on the filter can cause the machine to stop, but now you have shown me what to do it's an easy fix. Thank you very much.
You're a superstar, saved me £300 probably this weekend, was going to have to buy a new dishwasher reluctantly... until I found your extremely helpful video... many thanks, you should be on commission! :-)
Thank you for your advice it’s fixed my dishwasher .there was water underneath .I had sorted the blockage then could not understand why it wasn’t washing .👍👍
Thank you so much for this Video. The dishwasher that you worked on was the same as mine. I had looked up other advice that made no sense. You were spot on. Mine had 2 lemon seeds blocking the impeller. A big cheers to you.
THIS VIDEO saved me a few hundred quid and potentially my marriage after the dishwasher failed mid lockdown :-) my problem wasn’t addressed specifically in this but it the video led me to the issue. I addition to the steps in the vid, I cleared out the plastic float thing that you can see directly above his hand at 5:19, there was crud in the chamber with the float, which was making the float too buoyant and causing it to drain prematurely
Thank you for making this video it was easy to follow and fixed the problem at a time when we could ill afford a new dishwasher or the call out charge of the repair company.
Worked like a charm! My Bosch lacked the screw (just a flip trap door) where I discovered pistachios shells and a tooth pick - cleaned it out and good as new! Thanks for posting!
I have a similar model which was a bit fiddlier to get apart, but the gist was the same so thanks. Saved me a call out. Great vid and info! Thank you. 👍🏻
hi, thank so much for making this video. The way you explained the main possible causes of input and output was simplistic and effective. i managed to fix our problem in 15 mins, mainly due to the information you provided, cheers
very clear guide - just spent all morning wrestling with my dishwasher - tip it forwards, backwards, left & right - just ended up with water on the floor and the ruddy "Check water" light still showing - last time this happened I paid Bosch a small fortune to send an engineer, who found a TINY bit of fluff on the water flow sensor reed switch - which made very little sense to me (retired electronics tech) - need a rest now before trying your fix! wish me luck...
sad to say the Bosch SPS40C12GB has a different layout - checked pump impeller = all clear + pumped out a good half bucket of water... also plastic "side tank" is much larger - covers nearly all of left side of machine - it looks to be full to the brim and water circulating (presumably through heater) - also tried tipping machine - no joy - may have to call out "the man" :-(
Thanks so much. Had to go the distance and watched all of the “Check Water” trilogy, great videos, fixed dishwasher after cleaning both internal valves. Thanks again. Mine was a slightly different model but the internals were basically the same. Thanks again.
thank you so much or this I had both problems water wouldn't drain and it check water my Bosch Classixx had a slightly different design on the water entry but I used some drain unblocker for about 20 mins to free the float. Thanks once again
Thanks for your video, very helpful, I had the check water light on, but it never filled, so followed the latter part of your video to remove and clean all the gunk from the plastic tank as you showed. A combination of hot water, bleach, banging, and blowing down different pipes eventually enabled us to get all the muck that was surrounding the red valve out. BUT this didn’t solve my problem !!! When I turned the dishwasher on again (with the side off), I could see the waste outlet starting to fill, but despite the impeller going continuously the cycle never progressed. More googling and I found the problem. Towards the front of the dishwasher is a red lift lever for the float valve in the bottom of the washer - this lifts when the bottom of the machine is full of water and it then tries to pump it out. My problem was the other larger pressure chamber had gunk in it, causing the valve to stick open, and so it continually tried to pump water out the bottom that wasn’t there. This was evident when I manually pushed the red lever down, the cycle continued OK. I removed the larger pressure chamber, took the top off it, cleaned out the muck from the larger red float, and reassembled and all is well. Good video, be useful if you could have covered the scenario of muck in the large pressure chamber as well.
Geoffrey Coan thanks for the feedback. Post a video if you can. That switch and bowl is quite fragile so probably another likely culprit. I’m glad you sorted it :)
Hi, I've completely stripped the dishwasher down, took pump off, main circulation pump off, jet washed everything, cleaned the lower float swith area and the upper clear valve thing (as best I can) cleaned water inlet mesh where water feed screws on, dishwasher seems to fill up, but sits at 130 time and does nothing, occasionally you can hear it try to do something (gurgles alot) then it stops, timer never changes, water doesn't seem to heat up if its meant to heat up right at start, ive checked everything is back together correct (took photos of wiring, switch positions part fittings etc) and its back correctly, if I hold the reset keys it pumps out the water in bottom, dishwasher was left by previous owner in my new house so don't know the history, the clear side pipe thing the top valve is still pretty cruddy but I can't seem to get anymore out, any ideas of what might be the issue? Litterally hundreds of bits, completely stripped, cleaned and rebuilt, same problem, at least i know the entire main guts are clean now so if I can fix she will be good.
Hi and thanks for watching. I wonder if this might be a programmer issue? To me it looks like you have done all that you can... Before taking it to the skip make sure there is no water in the case at the bottom anf that the float switch is free to move up and down
Perfect - thanks clear easy to understand instructions really helped me out. Our issue was the water intake, I found I needed needle nosed pliers to undo the jubilee clip.
I had this problem today. Draining was OK as was the water pressure. I lent the dishwasher back and gave it a shake, then towards me and gave it another good shake. After that the water warning light went off and it did a full cycle OK. Remains to be seen if it's a long term fix, though!
Your video worked brilliantly last time but i seem to have same problem again. Clean out impella and fuxed for 2 washing cycles the stopped working again so Cleaned out all as you suggested but still not getting water. I clean out the outlet and thats clear. Impella is spinning. Any other ideas. Thanks
I am in the middle of trying to fix this problem now. At first I suspected it might be the inlet solenoid as a possible problem, you dont mention this in your video though. I have replaced but still get check water, so hopefully it will be a blocked chamber as per your video.
Thanks for this fab video.. enabled me to gain the confidence to strip mine... I need more help if possible please. Mine leaked from the front. I have cleared the internal filter... accessed the impeller, it does turn but I am not sure it is moving freely (more soft racket). I have taken the side off and ensured that is clean too. Removed the pipe to ensure there is no block to the spigot... removed spigot for flush, taken the emptying pipe off and flushed that but still the tap light is lit. It is now on its back as I would like full access to the spigot as I cannot think of anything else. I read one comment that said there was a reset code?
Brilliant, thank you.... except mine must be older. It just has a tab to flick out (spoon was useful) instead of having the torx screw. Waiting for the cycle to run, but it was a jammed impellor
The check water light is on my Bosch Slimline Dishwasher SPS40C12GB - machine doesn't appear to be getting water in so dishes were not washing. The filters have been regularly cleaned but I'm a 74 year old lady and can't do the type of work you describe in your video myself. Called an Engineer out to it but not got to the bottom of it yet. Already paid him £84 and he came back today on a recall visit and said he thinks it needs a water assembly unit but if that doesn't do the trick, it may be the tank in which case the machine won't be repairable. I don't know what the function of a water assembly unit is but with VAT etc. it is going to cost me another £90. Does this sound as if it would be the right diagnosis? I would appreciate your advice. Thank you.
Many thanks for posting. And, I found an easier fix for mine. It didn't have any water on the inside so I assumed it was the water in as you said. I didn't want to get into taking it apart right now so I googled a bit and found a guy saying 'tilt it'. I tilted mine about 40 degrees to the left a couple of times, some water came out of the bottom, and it works now. I will take the side off and check the pipes and tanks at some point though. Big 'thank you' for this vid!
Hello, The Trigger switch which powers the Fill/Drain logic has a float. When there is water in the base, the float will rise, causing the water to stop filling and will give you the check water light.
MrDblStop pleasure, I’m glad you got it sorted, I’ve done 2 more videos which help with clogging of the float valve. Hopefully you won’t need it but if you have any further problems, take a look
Hi i have removed the the water chamber and cleaned out well! I then removed the float components like i your second video, ive also cleaned impeller for the draining. Now when i start the dishwasher i can see the water circulating it then begins to fill the diswasher the float kicks in drains, dishwasher fills, float then gets triggered drains with check water light on and just repeats this sequence 😢 im now stuck as to what to do thnk you 😔
Yes! Thank you! For me it was the last thing with the gunk in that plastic thingy. Didn't have any bleach but my peroxide cleaner for my brewing sorted it right out. Thanks for a great video!
Hello. How do you remove the side panel fully? I've taken off the screws at the front but it seems to have something else securing it as it isn't coming away easily and I don't want to wrsk or force the panel put if possible. Could you help and give me a clue as to how please. Thanks
Scarebusdriver this is an excellent video and which I thought would solve my problem but hasn't. I knew the DW was pumping out OK so it had to be water in problem and this looked likely to solve the issue. After removing the water inlet it was fairly gunked up so I managed to clean it pretty well but the 'check light' problem remains. Water comes in, churns around the pipes and seems to go into the DW for about a minute but then I get the light again. I have taken some video if you would be prepared to take a quick look and tell me if this looks right or not? Thanks Simon
Simon Hill thanks for the feedback, The video is a workaround I found with this dishwasher. I’m not an appliance engineer so I’m unable to help with anything outside my own experiences. I hope you are able to find resolution for your problem
