Can you tell me how it compares to the GMS 120? It seems like the major difference is no need for calibration and the ability to scan different substrates. Anything about accuracy or is the underlying base technology the same?
this is annoying indeed not showing if is wood plastic or metal but you can only find wood studs in drywall . in concrate u will only find rebar so in drywall you can pretty much judge by the width of the object if is a pipe or a wooden stud also you can double check by scanning the entire drywall since wooden studs and metal studs apart from being wider than a pipe they are at equal distances from each other and you can use this to 2 check. It was indeed much easier if it would tell u what it is or the shape round / rectangle
well studs are only in drywall so if u scan a drywall u can judge by the width of the object pipes are smaller than studs also if you are not sure you can just scan the entire wall and studs are equally apart from each other so you can detect a stud by the pattern distance between objects. it is quite unfortunate cuz this device is not telling u the material would have saved time and would give the operator more confidence.
Regarding the electrical wire, I’ve used an older Bosch years ago, and if there was power within 1m of the tool it seemed, the thing would not stop telling me that power was around...how accurate is the AC warning, because it being more acute would be better,since most of the time I’m fully aware there’s live wires in the wall which is why I’m trying to locate them...
Might be useful if could differentiate between round objects like pipe, and square objects like a stud. Ok, so it tells me there's something behind the wall, and gives me the dead center of the pipe so when I put the screw into it I'm almost guaranteed to puncture the water line.
Not sure we follow. It tells you WHAT the material is, whether it's wood, metal or plastic. The material lets you know if you're going to be drilling into wood or a plastic pipe.
@@toolstop I was watching the video, and when you moved it over different objects i did not see anywhere on the screen wher it tells the material type.

1:56 - "Which in this case, as you might be able see (if your wall has a nifty little window in it) a copper pipe in the wall". Maybe the scanner could be inclined to tell us this without having to install windows? 🙄
Exactly my thought. I nearly ordered one when turned out it doesn't make difference between the things behind the wall. I want to find timber stud to drill into so it's totally useless for me
I've just bought one of these hoping to find a socket that had been dot and dabbed over, what a waste of time, as what this demo doesn't show is that in order to identify live cables in a wall there must be a load on it, which in my circumstance is impossible, the thing doesn't differentiate between materials behind, and on a dot and dab wall seemed to go off continuously, very disappointed as its not exsactly a cheap bit of kit, but partly my fault for not doing my homework beforehand 😩
