Reviewing the new Bosch Performance CX gen4 (250W/75Nm) and comparing it to the old Bosch Performance CX and Shimano E8000. #emtb #Bosch #PerformanceCX
Great review. Nice comprising to old cx and e8000. Finally somebody has done it correct 👏👍 i think that bosch has only done improvement with new cx to catch up with shimano. No big improvements / innovations. Cheers!
what do you think about two bikes similary speced and similary prices but either with yamaha pw-st or Bosch CX 2020 ? i mostly drive on the street, but want to go above 25kmh and the decoupling is important to me. i aslo like to go on the path in the forest of the south of norway but efficency(range) and plesurable ride on auto assist is important also im having to choose between Cube Cross Hybrid Pro 500 and Haibike trekking 4.0
@@EMTBVideos okay, cause i bougth the a Ghost teru bike, but i like the small chain ring and the size makes it looks good tho, i like the faster ramp up of power tho.
But what kind of ridning style do i have, im going mutch for top speed and and swinging to left to rigth like an alphine, and i also paising mutch is that a agressive style?
Your videos are just awesome!!! Keep it up man. You were a big influence in my choice of emtb and I am really happy with my purchase. Thank you very much.✌🏾
@@EMTBVideos I bought a focus jam2 6.8 plus and I am very happy with it. you're one of only a few who reviewed focus ebikes and I am grateful for that. Good value for money they are :)
From what I have read and know the first ebike was in 1895 and it was a Bosch. I need to learn everything I can about electric bikes so I can fix mine if it breaks I know about regular bikes I've been working on them since I was 7 years old 51 years
Suverent.
Imho, you forgot to mention (unless I completely missed it) something that is extremely important is how the Gen4 has been redesigned vs the gen3 when it comes to the seals drive side. I owned a gen3 (I ride during the winter) and I actually had to install something called "MudStop" to keep the dirt away. It was a complete mess without it. The motor had to be changed under warranty within 3000kms. Then I changed my bike and naturally went for a Gen4 (4000km before I removed the cranks for the first time and do a bit of cleaning near the seals and crank ring) remained completely clean without adding anything. Even the grease was still clean, so that's a massive pro in favor of the gen4. Now, I switched to a Shimano e8000, which might sound strange coming from a gen4 with the 625wh battery but I could get a Santa Cruz at a bargain and I'm not that sure that the Shimano is a way worse motor.
...THANK YOU! ...could you recommend a good but cheap eMTB Fully with a large frame (for me this means large Stack, UpperTubeLenght and Wheelbase)? Best would be a Battery with at least 600Wh. I only found the "Haibike Xduro AllMtn 3.5 (2020)" but the Price would be 5000 EUR, and i would max. pay about 3500 EUR. What would you recomment? Or do you think i could have luck on BlackFriday etc. to get it for that price? But where?
top tip for any one watching the videos here and no offence to EMTB Videos but i prefer to watch at 1.5x i get all the information i need at a fast pace that i love
Depends on motor. Some have clutch/"freewheel" mechanism directly in pedal axis allowing cranks to to rotate it without needing to turn any reduction gears etc. In others you have to "drag" at least part of that motor drive train when exceeding assist speed limit/assist is disabled.
When you switch to power is no click sound to be informed ! You have to turn your head and look to the display ! At list at the beginning , 300 Km ! The display has 2 cell batteries, quite annoying !
That's a great, really informative video. I'm absolutely sure, it's going to help us make right buying decision. Thank a lot for your effort. Keep it up!
@@EMTBVideos yes it did I didn't know you could change them with a update 👌🏻 I have the gen4 on mine but the only problem with them is that the working parts are smaller and brake easier
Hey👋, I want to buy my first E-Bike. Is it worth to pay a little bit more for the 2020 cx motor or would you say the 2019 is also good for a beginner like me? Is there a big difference over 25 km/h? Between the old and new cx motor.
@@EMTBVideos Thank you for your fast answer. I thought about the cube reaction hybrid pro from 2019. I think I will drive 70% on the street, but I want the option, to go to the forest as well. I think i have to do a test drive when the bike stores have open again. Thanks an stay healthy.
I have a bike with the old motor and one with the new. The old bike feels like you hit a wall when the assistance limit is reach. It's as if you turned on the brakes. With the new motor you can easily go faster than the assistance limit. I think you'll regret it if you get one with the old motor, unless you tune the bike to remove the speed limit. The old bike might actually be faster if you remove the speed limit I think the gearing is a bit higher because of the internal gears. But unless you tune the bike you'll never reach those speeds, cause 28kph = wall. Unless you are very fit or going down hill (or something is really wrong with my bike), you ain't going much faster than 28-30kph with the old cx motor.
@@atnfn Now I got an Haibike sduro hardnine 2.0 2020 with the 2020 bosch performance line. It hast 65 nm instead of the 75 nm from the cx. But on the test drive i didn't recognized big difference.
I recently bought a fatbike with a bosch gen 4 Performance Line CX motor. I also have one of the old gen 2 Performance Line CX motor. In my oppinion the difference is HUGE. When I reach 28kph with my "old" (it's just a year old) CX motor it feels like you're pedaling with the brakes on. It's very difficult to go over 28kph, feels like hitting a wall. With the new CX gen 4 motor I can easily reach 32kph and if I tried harder I could probably go faster. The older bike is a regular mountain bike, the new bike is a fatbike but it's still way easier to pedal when the motor is shut off. It's almost a waste of time tuning the gen 4 motors, it doesn't help much, while with the gen 2 motors it feels terrible once you reach the motor assist limit.
why when u tell about somethink u make so many breaks between words? example: "why when, u tell about ,somethink , u make, so many ,breaks, between words?" very hard to listen
Hello. Thank you so much for the video. I want to ask what's the range of this new Bosch CX? My rides are usually 40-70km, about 1000-1400m elevation. With my current Haibike with Yamaha PW I am able to do 70km in the mountains on ECO + / ECO mode. I'm planning to buy Whyte E150 with Bosch CX 4. gen. Do you think think this bosch can do about 70km in the mountains? (let's say while switching between ECO and TOUR) Thank you.
Hey, it`s a performance line CX gen 4. My bike is 3 years old and I would say it`s ok. Maybe it lost some of its capacity but nothing too significant. I`m just looking at one of my latest rides. 64km (from whick about 10 is on the road, so 54km in forest)1690m elevation and I still came home with some energy in battery. Of couse it the whole trip wasn`t on emtb. I had to you eco also. @@echimadrian2007
Great comparison. Honestly best channel for honest and detailed reviews. One question on the new Bosch, are these the ones with a ratchet system for the freewheel or more like the Shimano with a roller clutch?
That was an excellent comparison of the Bosch old and new and the Shimano e8000. I'm glad I bought a 2019 Levo with the latest Brose motor! #LovingLevo I was hoping your comparison would have included the levo motor. I have over 1,200 miles on my 2019 Levo and I really am very pleased with its trail manners. I ride a lot of Rocky technical terrain up and down hill. I find that it's very well controlled and I'm entirely familiar with some of the concepts that you were expressing regarding overshoot and how it impacts your technical climbing ability. Prior to buying my levo I also trail-ride tested bikes that had the earlier Bosch cx motor and the e8000. I felt these motors were underpowered and not very well controlled. The Levo's 90Nm of torque is much Appreciated for technical riding.
@@EMTBVideos shimano is underpowered? I am using it over the year and thes news shocks me:) BTW there is application to configure it as you like. And I like levers instead of buttons. Levers work as front derailleur. In the winter in gloves great thing
@@EMTBVideos default mode was actual when I bought my scott. After year many updates changed this drive unit a lot. The only bad thing for me is 25 kph limiter but it is bad law simply. Today I would not buy any super kegal bike. I prefer buy unrestricted drive unit and make convertion of decent MTB FS with battery as I wish. I csn see such bike on trsols and any legal bike can not keep them.
@@JobeMI6 only thing stopping me from pulling the trigger on a kenevo are the motor popping stories.... makes my skin crawl from something so expensive
Well I am going to be totally honest. Mine has been derestricted for 2 years, pretty much a little after I bought it and I have hammered it, to the point I bent my rear cassette. The shop I took it to couldn’t believe it? I bent it when I powered up a hill. I hit 47 miles an hour on a country road two weeks ago. Fastest I have ever been on it. It shifts, and it’s been faultless....apart from the cassette 🙈 What bike did you go for, or you still looking?
@@JobeMI6 thanks for the reply. I'm still looking mate. This is proving to be one of the toughest purchases of my life. Buying my first brand new 450 four stroke was easier than buying my first eMTB. It's actually starting to drive me nuts. I like to research my techy buys and the world of ebikes has so many pros and cons on each brand I can't make the decision. Nothing is really swaying me at the moment.
I'm glad that I live in an area of the world that ebike motors aren't limited to 250W or ever 500W. Listening to manufactures and their paid-for opinions parroted by riders that don't even ride, let alone own the bikes they recommend makes me laugh. They have missed the mark so badly in what the real magic of ebike is and just keep doubling down praying the bike riding world is stupid enough to "buy-in"... literally! These bikes are designed and built to sell more than they are to ride. This may be ok for riding in Amsterdam or anywhere in Europe but it's not what Americans want, not this America anyway but I don't ride in herds. I haven't seen a single production ebike I would buy at 1/2 price let alone the full price. I have over 18K miles on this ebike now: 10 May 20 - 100 miles. www.relive.cc/view/vMv85EGzYNO photos.app.goo.gl/9ZbuKQNWsHtRH3Ft7 prnt.sc/sw0igi
EMTB Videos what you can do and nobody has done yet is put together all the new motors (Mag S Bosch Gen 4 PW-X 2 and Shimano) Your reviews are very independent and honest, we don’t want pro riders doing crazy stuff with music on the background. That video i repeat has not been done yet!
Very good comparison video and well explained. One point I think you should always wear a helmet even when slow speed testing......speaking from experience !
