Could Bosnia spiral back into civil war? The scars of Bosnia’s devastating civil war have never fully healed but, for years, this divided country has kept a fragile peace. Now, with Ukraine on fire and Europe on high alert for Russian meddling elsewhere across the continent, the mood is increasingly uneasy.

Peace in Bosnia is hanging in the balance. The nation is led by three presidents - and the Bosnian Serb member of the presidency, Milorad Dodik, has threatened to secede the Serb Republic from Bosnia. Meanwhile, the Bosnian Serb army has been carrying out drills, bringing back painful memories of the siege of Sarjevo. Some theorize that outside influence may be at play: 'There’s longstanding support coming from Moscow for Mr. Dodik', notes EU ambassador Johann Sattler. Meanwhile, Russian affiliated paramilitary groups have appeared in the Serb Republic: 'These organizations represent themselves as humanitarian organizations. They have very strong links with Russia', notes genocide expert Hikmet Karčić. 'Russia does not want any country of the Western Balkans to join NATO or the European Union', says Croat presidency member Željko Komšić.

My goal in life is to one day fully understand the Yugoslavian war and all the belligerents involved. Bosnia and Herzegovina alone is pretty confusing. Some parts I have to go over because there's so much going on. They might be fighting because everyone is just confused.

Regarding the war, it is important that we do not decontextualize crimes and events. There is no equivalency between individual instances of war crimes and systematic crimes against humanity. The "all sides did it" discourse is revisionism. There's a huge difference between crimes committed by individuals and crimes that are systemically planned. Bosnian Serb and Bosnian Croat separatist forces committed systemically planned war crimes. The Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina did not commit any systemically planned crimes. For decades now, there has been a trend and tendancy to lump everything together, which is exactly what war criminals and their supporters have been doing for years, even decades, trying to relativize everything until it loses its true context and hence meaning.

The Bosnian Serbs are pro-Russia, the Bosniak muslims are pro-Turkey, the Bosnian Croats are pro-the West (E.U). So politically all 3 main ethnic groups are very much divided in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Its a very difficult internal political situation there.

To OP. Fortunately for them: A) Putin doesn't care about Bosnia since it doesn't border to Russia. B) Turkey has no neither a beef nor a say in what happens in any European country. C) Bosnia isn't in the EU and the EU says Bosnia is still *way off* from being granted membership. Here are other facts to consider: Unlike Ukraine, Bosnia is neither a member of NATO nor is negotiating membership. Unlike Ukraine, Bosnia has no pipelines of either gas or oil which might become a liability for Russian pipelines. The EU is still recovering from Brexit and is making sure other countries exiting the EU won't happen. Neither the EU, nor the NATO countries, nor Russia has any particular interest in Bosnia. The reason? There is nothing particularly valuable there to warrant an interest. "Its a very difficult internal political situation there." I don't doubt that. But the reason there is due to poverty, corruption and the people pretty much being stuck where they are with no future. This has *nothing* to do with the situation in the Ukraine, Putin and the countries "supporting" the Ukraine.

The Dutchbat didn't simply hand over the citizens of Bosnia to the Bosnian Serbs. The Dutch soldiers tried their best to defend, but with the tanks and heavy weaponry of the Serbs and the lack of air support and anti-material support from USA, France and the UK, the Dutch soldiers were not able to defend the Bosniak population... I love watching one sided biased documentaries that only tell one side of the story and of course for added affect you have to mention Srebrenica, can’t have a documentary without that. I also love how when they spoke about victims of the war, they only showed Muslim graves. No Serbian or Croatian graves. Great reporting Journeyman. Can’t wait for the next one in 10 years time again.

Most Croat civilans and prisoners of war were killed by Bosnian Muslims and not Serbs.Croat-Muslim conflict lasted only 11 months.Bosnian Muslims were not all innocent in the 90's war

I am from the state of Minnesota in the United States.My daughter went to school with a boy from Bosnia.Because her last name is Serbian he would always say your people killed my grandpa and other friends and relatives.My daughter would always say to him Ì am sorry.She would say my dad and Grandpa were born here and it was her Great Granpa and Grandma immigrated here.The Granpa was Serbian and Grandma was Croatian. They did eventually become friends even after graduating.His mother never let him do anything or go anywhere for fear of danger not trusting.I also worked as a nurse in a clinic and it was Occupational Meducine so we had many patients from Bosnia,Serbia and Croatia that came iver after the war.I worked with many translators.Many of them were trying to learn the language.This was from 2003 until 2007.They looked like they had been through a lot.I can't even imagin it.

You can however tell the difference between an ethnic group that largely behaves well and wants peace (Bosniaks) and an ethnic group that 30 years on still celebrates its war criminals, openly calls for war and is still in collective denial over what their dear leaders did (Serbs) to other ethnic groups.

@@tarik6990 no, the difference is whether they tell you they're Bosniak or Serb. People and townships choose one of three citizenships and that's how you have a Serb army in Bosnia. The Serbs are mostly people and towns that didn't rebel against Yugoslavia back in the day and are mostly concentrated on the Serb border, but this is all very much a civil war inside Bosnia and there really is no concensus about the historic record on this matter.

I was talking about how the Vegas Shooting was a government job with accusations that consist of details people don't notice, this conversation was between a few friends on Snapchat. After that a green SUV sat outside my home for 10 minutes, than I get a call from supposedly my credit union. They said I needed to add 5 bucks to my account to keep the balance above negative. Which is true, I still have yet to put money into my savings. But yet I looked up the number they called me with because caller ID said it was a city over, I can't find it. And after they called me the guy left a minute or so later. The guy didn't look like he had a reason to sit in front of my house and he never got out or looked around. From what I could see from his sillouette behind the tinted windows he just sat there looking down smoking a cigarette. I feel like he's a government agent that was trying to get me to leave my house. Am I going cray cray!? I feel like i'm about to go missing, die, or get framed, help me....

Lets humor that the vegas shooting was for some reason staged... And you someone with no platform, political power or sway over any power structure or influence on the world, yes you came to the same conclusion many thousands of people do for almost every mass shooting or mass domestic killing since 9/11 come to the revelation "aha it was staged!!!". Guess what even if they did stage EVERY mass shooting unless you do something that could seriously put a spotlight on those involved or have any real effect on the conspiracy then they wouldnt give two fucks about some random dude and his buddies making the same speculations that tons of people make about these mass killings. Besides if you were really a target for our government really wanted gone you would either be sitting behind bars with a ton of bullshit charges thrown at you, or youd have an accident or dissapear and you wouldnt see either of them coming thats for sure, so dont worry about it.
