The Boss AW-3 Dynamic Wah is a "talking" pedal -- the first compact wah pedal to incorporate human voice-type sounds through a "Humanizer" Mode. Of course, you can also choose from standard up-and-down wah effects, plus a Tempo Mode and resonant synth-like Sharp Mode.

this pedal is a neat idea, but I could never get much use out of it or figure out how to use it reliably. the best part of this thing is how you can make it say "gay" with the humanizer mode lol

Liking this series, appreciate the addition of fuzz before and after the wah. I assume the last clip was manual setting no sweep etc. Sounded good w/the duality too. I may consider one of these just to stomp on for a part and quickly turn off.

If you mean the outro clip of Josh on the SG bass, it's the Down envelope setting with the control knobs at noon, so there is a sweep to it. Fuzz does tend to bang filters open so some notes can sound like they're in a static position, though. Thanks for the appreciation!!

Obviously, the Bass Wahs are the most suitable for bass right out of the box, but with a little clean blend, just about any wah can sound great, as we’ll show over the course of the month.

Where does this go in the pedal chain? Boss say after compressor (CS-3 etc), but everywhere else suggest before - just after tuner. Thoughts?

Sounds good with my bass, but rubbish with my Fender Strat, especially higher up the neck.

It doesn't respond to your playing dynamics like an envelope filter does. It only responds when it detects a pitch coming through and doesn't respond to your dynamics but how you set the pedal itself. So it's really more of an auto-wah than an envelope filter.

Might sound better cutting thru in a regular mix where the bass isn't always so forward for demo purposes. Plenty of pedals require an EQ before or after to reign them in.
