I can see how its over Lego batman I hear a lot of kids had more fun with this movie than Lego Batman with hyperactive jokes/references that bored the child audience. If you want your kids to have fun watch Boss baby If you want them less hyper watch Lego Batman
LaybackGames They're really not. Shark Tale is incredibly dated with an irredeemable main character who sells his best friend's heirloom and uses said money to gamble as opposed to using it to pay off his debts. Shred the Third had a pretty weak story, and don't get me started on Justin Timberlake's involvement with the movie.
Lewtoons has a point in terms of how children enjoyed watching and the fact lego batman was forcing the plot so hard it made me think "people think this is good?" if your a DC fanboy bite me When I watched Lego Batman I remember this kid kicking and screaming batman in the theater when the movie ended he was monotone When I watched boss baby the other day kids around me were excited overall sure there are things that are not concrete but it ain't forcing anything down anyone's throat
that's just one kid though, and while i do respect your opinion, where i watched the movie, it was great and all the kids seemed to love it. they were laughing all the way through, and so was i!!
If there's one thing that really bugs me about this movie (btw, haven't seen it, and I don't really plan to) is the character designs, specifically the faces. They are way too soft, and the eyes especially are waaaaaaay too big and cutesy that it all makes me want to steer clear of the film entirely. I know that may be really picky, but it's something I really can't stand whenever I see ads for it.
Yeah that was a shit show. That was more of a bump though, I personally don't like Dreamworks (except for Kung fu panda) but I don't think their movies are too bad.

I can understand your point of view for liking Boss Baby. But for me, its not for me since its just so strange, bizarre, and stupid. Lego Batman, while I haven't saw it, the movie doesn't top the Lego Movie. So far this year, I have been liking Rock Dog (not because I like animals, from via avatar of mine). Something about it seems so interesting and likable.
Lego Batman isn't that great and idc if you know the references overall seemed correct to put Boss baby on top kids were not bored with this movie they came out excited and chipper in terms of adults its still good
I don't know if I want to actually pay money to go and see it, I hate potty jokes and bodily fluids jokes too (that sounds so wierd to type lmao) and by the trailers it seems there is a LOT of them. It has a few smart jokes but I don't know if I should watch it. Should I?
i don't like poop jokes either but i enjoyed the movie. it'll strike a chord with you if you are the older sibling in the family (which i am), the fart jokes and stuff like that can easily be ignored, i tried to focus more on the story. it wasn't amazing or anything, but it was like he said, a solid movie.
I saw this movie with my nephew the other day and I just don't understand how there could be so many plot holes in one movie. For example, if losing your pacifier makes you forget being a boss baby, why did Boss Baby become a regular baby after not getting any milk, but the bad guy remembered everything despite having a pacifier and no milk? If I remember, he didn't get his pacifier taken away.
Keep in mind he's only reviewed 3 movies so far, so it doesn't necessarily mean that he thought Lego Batman was bad or mediocre just because he personally liked Boss Baby more, it just looks worse because the scale is so small atm (and the third movie is Rock Dog, which was way worse than both movies).
That is so naive. Of course its been done be fores, ALL stories have been told before. Stop making movies not need any more. ALL stories telling is about tell the same old stories is new ways to relate to current generation. Stop making sibling riviraly stories in children movies is like say stop making Boy meets girl teen movies. They get retold as they are key emotional issues for their demographics

The Lego Batman Movie > The Boss Baby. I'm not saying that The Boss Baby was awful or anything... I just can not see how you could put The Boss Baby over Lego Batman!
I , for one, thought that Boss Baby was one of dreamwork's better movies. The symbolism of the "tickle spot" and blocks the boss baby receives at the end of the movie really touched my heart. Art wise, the scene where Tim cycles on a bike without training wheels for the first time was really wild and colourful. I loved how they connected the pieces together to form an interesting story. I felt that the super cute forever young puppy was kind of weak but I focused more on the relationship between tim and the boss baby so I just kind of loved it.
Pixar: "What if... we show the emotions in a young girl's head, which have their _own_ emotions and we can use that to create a story about the human condition and how the mind works and how we change as we grow and break the stereotypes of what depression is, and how sadness should not be seen as bad thing and shunned, but healthy and just as important as happiness as it helps us to grow and develop into better people." Dreamworks: "What if... A baby in a suit!"
I'd like to see a movie use this exact same premise, but at the end the characters still hate each other and hold to their deal of never seeing each other again. They never get along the entire time and the lesson isn't for us to find things in common even with people who we seem to antagonize initially. Instead, the lesson is that not everybody gets along and likes each other but we at least need to accept different people have different views and beliefs and at the best we can sometimes just learn to tolerate it as long as nothing is taken to a toxic level.

I just like how honest you are with animated movies; You always say what's been said about every single trope used in said feature(s). Sometimes, I wonder if you plan on animating your own movie with a really great story and status, kind of like the one I have plans for. Yet, I lack the confidence it'll be successful. So if the kid is just imagining all of it and there is no actual abnormalities and crazy scenarios happening with his brother, what's the point of this movie? It's almost similar to the "It was all a dream" kind of plot where everything you just saw didn't really happen or even matter.
I'm just really losing faith in Dreamworks. From putting the last season of Dreamworks Dragons on hold from delaying the 3rd HTYD film to 2019, too cancelling Larikin, too now giving George and Harold adult voices. I'm seriously praying that the Captain Underpants movie is good.
Ryan Ozog It's Comcast that chooses the release dates now, it's not Dreamworks choice, and they back-dated HTTYD 3 because it had too much big name competition where it was (Avengers Infinity War, The Incredibles 2, Black Panther, Ant Man and the Wasp, Aquaman, Star Wars: Han Solo, S.C.O.O.B., Deadpool 2, Venom, Pacific Rim 2, Reck-it Ralph 2, Jurassic World 2, Mulan, Animated Spider-man movie and Mary Poppins Returns) so, if you want httyd3 to be sussessful you'll be happy they did that. And they pushed back the release of the newest season of RTTE because they wanted to give Trollhunters some breathing room, and they only pushed it back 2 months, so, boo-hoo, you'll get over it. And giving Kids adult voices is nothing new, almost every studio does it so they don't have to recast if they make a lot of sequels over the years (which they plan on doing for Captain Underpants). Everything DreamWorks is doing will make them sussessful in the long run.
But Larikin though. What reason could they possibly have to cancel an animated musical that was being worked on for 4+years? They have nothing for 2018 thanks to that poor decision.
I watched this movie last Thursday and it wasn't that bad. It was decent. I respect Lewtoons's opinion of putting above "Captain Underpants" and "The LEGO Batman Movie", even if those two movies are superior to "The Boss Baby".
Just saw this movie last night. It had almost a full house at the theater and just as I expected, it wasn't the best movie in the Dreamworks line-up but I did like it for the most part. Alec Baldwin did a great job playing his role as "The Boss Baby." It had some quarky moments, but yeah it's just one of the movies I would watch again but not over and over.

Trolls wasn't really _bad_ per se, just wildly mediocre. That said I've watched Foodfight, Norm of the North and the entire Dingo Pictures series, so anything better than those is high art in comparison from my perspective.
I want to believe Captain Underpants will be near the top or even on the top of the list this year. It reminds me of The Peanuts Movie and it's probably the only animated movie this year I actually am considering seeing.
Am I the only animator/artist that worships this move for the amazing facial expressions? There is some crazy reference material in here... I haven't seen the film myself and I don't think the story is going to be too exciting... but... BUT THE EXPRESSIONS!
The whole reason there are probably so many references to Glengarry Glenn Ross is because they animated the baby doing that inspirational speech Baldwin did in the film as the pitch.
IMO The Lego Batman Movie is a GREAT film and Boss Baby is just okay but your opinion is your opinion so I applaud you for saying you liked this a little better than Lego Batman despite knowing several people would disagree. Sometimes people get the terms opinions and facts confused.
I actually saw this movie. I was bored one weekend so my mom decided to take me to the movies. There was no getting out of it, so I chose Boss Baby to laugh at a laughably bad movie. Similar to Trolls, it was a lot better than I expected. Some of the animation jokes were really clever, like with the 2-D hallway scenes, and the kid's imagnation bits. But other times I just face palmed. Way too many relying on showing the baby's butt for comedy, and just putting a bunch of pixels to cover the penis, really? You couldn't come up with something better? I wouldn't say it's a good movie, but I wouldn't call it a bad movie either. I'm glad I saw it.
I'm actually really hopeful for the Captain Underpants Movie, since I also grew up reading the books, which will always be some of my favorites. *crosses fingers* Please be good please be good please be good
LEGO Batman was the perfect movie for me, but I can understsnd it not being great for someone who doesn't know the lore. Regarding Boss Baby, I haven't seen it, nor do I have any intention to do so. It doesn't interest me, but I'll watch it if it comes on Netflix. Anyway, loved the review, and I was happy to subscribe and like.
I know that making fun of Boss Baby is old and all but it just isn't better than Lego Batman, I'm sorry. I still do respect your opinion and I fully comprehend this list is made of your personal opinions, so I'm just expressing mine. Boss baby is simple and strikes me as that kind of bland "money-maker" film. Lego Batman had character, creativity, a sort of thing that I can't credit to Boss Baby. I know the movie wasn't bad, but I wouldn't call it good either.
It looks like an interesting movie, but I have to say- I REALLY dislike mouth close-ups. lol For some reason it just makes me uncomfortable. Everything else looked fine though.
I actually kinda like this movie, but you definitely bring up a good point about the lack of real all-ages humor that works for both adults and kids. And I still want Dreamworks to go back to doing films that gave them an identity as a studio.
Honestly for me just based on the trailers I wasn't sure where they were going with the actual 'boss baby' element. (That is, whether they would make it all in the kids head or make it so this is something that's actually happening) So I'm relieved to hear that it's the former and not the latter. I think that is a very clever idea actually and it sort of elevates it for me, but it still seems pretty lackluster. Something that's just good enough to get a pass but doesn't go that extra mile.

Out of curiosity, since Your Name now has an American theatrical release, will that be in the running for 2017? I know it's an anime and was technically released last year overseas, but it's just hitting our cinemas now. That and I just saw it and I love it and think it would blow the competition so far out of the water.
I didn't see this movie, but my mom did. She was excited to see the movie and found it terrible. She said she *HATED* it and it was a punishment for any kids. She even said my 4 year old brother was asking if it was over. So the fact that this was over The Lego Batman makes you a brave man and shows you don't care about haters.
