Boss Buck Gravity Feeder...my deer won't eat from it!

How do I get deer to actually eat from the gravity feeder? They come every afternoon and just look at it! I welcome (need, lol) your comments/advice!

I have found that deer prefer to eat corn from the ground than out of an elevated source. At least that’s how they do for me. I just put my boss buck up in a spot where the corn has been on the ground for several months and it took them about a week to come to it. If the other feeder is out of corn they will come to the boss feeder. But they will definitely eat off the ground 1st

They are finally eating out of the gravity feeder. I put a little on the ground around the feeder and you are absolutely right - they def eat off of the ground first!

I'm no expert on the matter, but I think that since the deer have a choice with both feeders being side by side, they're choosing the more natural way to eat, off the ground. I know people who use the Boss Buck with really good results. It takes a week or two for them to get used to using it, but if it's the only feeder/feed source around, they should adjust to it. We use the Banks stump and/or TruStump gravity feeders with really good results.

Thank you so much for your comments. Extremely helpful. I really didn't think about the deer having a choice of how to feed with both sides by side, but you're correct! Just received the replacement timer and will be replacing it and moving the Boss Buck to another area of the property. Again many thanks for the advice. I appreciate it!

I showed my dad he’s a game warden specialist and he said it’s definitely the choice between the two feeders. If they use one feeder they will stay to that feeder. And if you leave the other one around the old one they will be slow to the field and wait for the feeders sent to pick up. Happy deer hunting Rhonda.

You may put pellet feed in there corn in the spin feeder maybe

I would sprinkle some scented/flavored dust or powder attractant in each port. Maybe some of that cherry bomb stuff or acorn rage just to get them started on it. I’ve seen other boss buck videos saying it takes something like that to get them using it.

Use the boss buck for protein feed. The other feeder for corn.

Depending on where you are I’d say it’s still early in the season and the deer have natural food sources they’re accustomed to. Once a few good cold spells come around and most of the greenery dies out you’ll see an increase of interest. Maybe try adding some type of supplement to the feeder. I’ve had good luck with anilogics crush. Good luck!

Thanks for the tip. I tried putting a few grapes right on the edge of the funnel. Didn't work. It's been so dry here and the grass is really dry. Maybe that will be an incentive for the deer to move to the gravity feeder. I'll check with the feed/seed store and see what kind of supplements I can use. Again, thanks much!

Ive tried peanut butter had deer walk right past it. What peanut butter attracts is raccoons. And when coons find it they will get ur corn to. Ive seen pic of coons stacking themselves on top of each other and one on top scooping corn out of boss buck. But that was why boss buck was made was to keep corn off of ground makes it harder for other critters other than deer to get. It makes deer work for their food which takes them longer to eat through all the corn. The early and late season months deer can wreck the corn costing a bunch of money lol. But when acorns hit the ground the white oaks they leave corn alone. But after all white oaks is gone they will pick back up on the corn.

Hello Rhonda, Maybe put some protein/corn mix in the boss buck! I have a 600 lb gravity feeder here in TX with berry flavored protein pellets and the deer love it! They go through about 300 lb a month!😅 Good luck! And happy new year! Have a blessed 2024. 🙏🏼

The answer is simple deer are lazy if you keep both feeders side by side like that they are gonna go to the one thats easiest for them to eat. I gaurantee if u remove the game winner and get corn off the ground maybe just keep a lil on ground under boss buck. But they will be forced to eat from boss buck otherwise they just gonna go to what is easier for them to eat.
