I love mine. I accidentally found a secret to getting a massive tone. I do the graphic eq then boost and expand that tone with the parametric eq. Add the Tera Echo and huge arena tones.
Hello there, The Studio Rats. I'm a long-time Boss GT-1 user, having used it since it came out, and still do. I use the GT-1 for live gigs as well, running straight to the PA, using the onboard Preamp Models, and they are really good. Minimal tweaking needed, and the well-known Boss effect quality is there! Instead of creating 2 separate patches, for clean and overdrive/distortion, you can actually have it all within ONE single patch, and still have the lead/solo sound as well. The Assigns will make sure of that, and the possibilities are endless. All the best GuitarNTabs.
@@Place_to_keep_videos - I haven't really used any effects after the GT-1, atleast not yet.. What exactly did you have in mind? I use a Radial ProD2 Stereo DI, yes. It's a great piece of gear.
@@Place_to_keep_videos I have actually run an old yet sturdy Boss ME-70 through an active cab sim DI box straight to the PA for quite a while now, but I'm not getting any younger, so I'll get the GT-1 tomorrow. I'll keep this thread posted.
-Thank you for making a use-able "How To" video. So many pedal demos are simply "here's what it can do" type of videos and don't go through the steps of how to get there. I just bought this pedal and I am an old guy used to simple one-effect stomp boxes. This video gives me hope I may be able to enter into the new super-technology era of effects and figure one of these things out and make it use-able. Thanks !!
I’m an old guy too, lol! I too got a lot out of this video. I’m used to single stomp boxes as well. Hell, I bought a Line 6 Half Stack 6 Years ago and still don’t know how to make it do much. I put it on the Clean Channel and left it there and used my Pedal Board, lol.
Sold. At last a review not relying in the oh so drastic (🙄) differences between hardcore, gore, speed and death metal. Thanks a lot for that. PS: gorgeous PRS.
Paul, thank you so much for showing something this comprehensive, as it definitely needs to be tweaked through the Boss Studio program as it’s to difficult to do all of this through the unit directly. Much appreciated.
Thanks Paul. Amazing review. I own 2 of these because I bought one for me and one for my son. Now I know I need to set them up like you were doing here. Clean amp. Then crunch amp. Then lead. I also bought a 2 button foot switch that can turn off and on the chorus and delay or other parameters. This pedal is just great. Love it.
Great presentation of what the GT-1 is capable of tone wise. I've been using this little beast for two and a half years and love it. I wouldn't mind seeing you do a few more videos with the GT-1. I must add, I love your channel. Keep on rockin' 🤘
I absolutely love my GT-1. Although it doesn’t have quite as many options as it’s big brother, it is super simple to use, has all the sounds I will ever need, and sounds great. I also love that you edit anything on the box itself if you don’t have a PC with you, and you can re-map the bank up and down buttons to toggle on/off any of the effects as well.
I use a Helix Floor with Boss Reverbs in the loops, but I use a GT1 for fly gigs, and since they comprise more shows than driving gigs, I have really taken a shine to the GT1 and how it's implemented to give live player options and programability. AND it fits in my carry-on.
I used it on a gig for the first time a few days ago, it was awesome 😎, all I had to do was plug it straight into the mixing board and it sounded great through the PA, I don't think I'll ever need an actual amp for gigs since this sounds so good and it's way more portable, it fits in my gig bag.
Thank you Paul. So glad I found your channel. I love your down to earth style of teaching and awesome guitar chops. Everything on the Boss GT-1 is starting to fall into place. The clean patch on my Gretsch is what I've been looking for forever. I have also started on the journey down the Rabbit Hole with your many other excellent videos. Keep up the great work. Extremely helpful with a lot of insight. Thank you again for sharing your experience.
I have one. But this video makes the point very clearly that if you put ANY piece of gear in the hands of a very fine musician - such as is the case here - then it is going to sound really good.
I just picked this unit up. As I get older, the less I want to tote around. I have a bunch of individual pedals just sitting because my old pedalboard weighed a ton with all my pedals. I play in our church worship band. I leave one of my guitars at the church. When it's time for rehearsal, I grab a small bag with this pedal, a cable to plug into the snake and my wireless units. I only use a few sounds so it works out great for me. If set up properly, this unit can compete with discrete pedals all day long. I've seen people get horrific sounds out of discrete pedals as well as all in one units such as this. It's all in the finesse and not over-doing it. Oh, and great review and explanation. Editing on the computer is the way to go!
Thanks for the informative video - I just picked one up as a back up and practice tool, Its incredible all the features packed into this unit at the price point!
This was a perfect video for me . Pretty much exactly the sound set-up I'm looking at. I have a PRS Hollowbody II I want to use for solo gigs and this will give me a nice sound for the electric pickups. I like to use a 2-amp setup (JC90 for clean and a Vox AC30S1 for everything else). A pedal like this saves me over 100 pounds of load-in/out. I'll be able to run the piezo into one channel and this into another. Thank you for such a terrific video!
Very cool. I just watched your boss m80 video and was asking about this and did a search and found it. This is me big time. Small, light on the back at 61 years old and sounds good. You set it up very much as I would. ♥️🤘♥️. Thanks my friend and regards from the heartland. Indiana USA. . Tim.
Another brilliant video.. Thanks mate. I've got a Boss GT-1 and a Katana 50... I'm trying to feel my way how to use both in my band (covers, so lots of tones and complexity). Really appreciate your videos
I'd be happy to assist, Martin, if you need help with the Katana and the GT-1. Over on my Channel I have several Tutorials on the GT-1, and I'd be happy to accept requests, if you have any. ru-vid.com Let me know if I can assist. All the best GuitarNTabs.
@@kmichaelp4508 - There's no effects loop on the Katana 50 mkII, no, but there's the Power Amp Input - which will act like the effects loop return, where you can plug in your GT-1, or other multi effect. It's designed, by Boss, to specificly take multi effects that way - which is an excellent addition! You can use the GT-1 in front of almost any amp, as long as you turn off the onboard Preamp models - and simply use the GT-1's effects. Using the GT-1 with the Katana, or the other way around, is just as killer a setup. Using the Katana's preamp models, and the GT-1 for effects! You can't go wrong there, really. Let me know if you need anything else. Cheers.
very cool video paul thanks. I just saw this at the guitar store and had never seen it before. Very usable and seem like a decent price for what you get. thanks again
I'm a bass player and have the bass version but I've been playing guitar out lately and got one just so i don't have to buy pedals. Looks just as great as the 1B
Back in the day I owned a GT for a bit... Never could get it to sound the way I wanted to. Had more luck with the Digitech stuff after learning a few tricks from a few guys on this good ole' interweb. thanks Al Gore!! :)
As much as the GT 1000 has more options, you can still get a good level of option paralysis with the GT1. And you see it right here in this video. And you can play a whole gig on 1 set of alkaline batteries and fit it into your guitar bag.
@@nieknobel7483 I used new alkalines for 4 hours every saturday for months and it never let me down. Brought teh AC adapter as backup but never needed it. Dont use rechargables!
@@nieknobel7483 All batteries are not created the same and have the same capacity, i dont own a GT-1, but for this kind of unit which does consume quite a bit of power i would recommend rechargable batteries, IKEA sells cheap but high quality ones made in Japan.
I have one, you have to try different combinations that you might think wouldn't get you your sound but do. As an example I wanted a good Rock tone but used the Natural Clean amp model and Lead DS distortion. You can certainly get good tones to record and play but you do have to dig and experiment.
Hey Paul, great vid. I think you can turn on the pedal effects by pressing forward on the expression pedal. Then you'd only need 2 patches coz you could turn on od and pedal effects in one patch. If this has been said before sorry for repeating
Thanks for posting this! Big help! I just got my first modeler/pedal of any sort...any how i bought it saying i just need the smallest pedal i can get and only need 2 sounds. I had no idea what i was up against or if i could really leave my Blues Jr at home...so i searched GT1 Gig and found yours Paul. BINGO that's all i needed really was those 2 exact patches....so me being a retired developer i was lazy and did not dwnld the editor for the laptop but was able to very easily follow all of your settings right there on the GT-1 interface. Then i was supersprised to see Adam Rafferty had some stuff to say about GT1 so there i go next for the acoustic patches for those gigs. 😎
Thanks for this comment! I was wondering about that. Can the wah pedal also be a volume pedal? Sorry for the dumb question, the GT1 is on the way, I haven't received it yet.
It was stated on a shootout between 2 other units that you can't turn effects on and off within a patch with the foot switch on the GT-1 but your demo gives me the sense that that isn't true.
You can turn effects on and off within a patch. You set up a patch with the effects you want and then assign to the pedals what you want to do with those effects. That's how I mostly use my GT-1, in "stompbox mode".
The question here is why just not leave the leader and the wah in the same patch? the wah pedal is activated when you press it and there you would have both the leader and the soloist with wah, it is much more versatile, you can use separately or together, at least it is the configuration that I use, not to mention that sometimes I use the assignments next to ctl1. 😅🙈
Really good demo as usual! I'd like to know your opinion as far as the quality of the sampling versus an analog pedal.. As Johnny Marr said I find the drive and distortion sounds very convincing.. Let's not forget this is the portable version of the GT100.. As you say for the giging musician this package is a game changer and really affordable..
The most important thing of toneworks is not just knowing the what drives to choose .delays reverbs .values .compressor etc etc also a good quality guitars .nowdays people are more interested in buying costly effects pedals investing in amps but ignoring the guitar quality.. It should be opposite.you dont need a bunch of costly analog .stompboxes .using IRs .If the guitar cannot supply standard frequency output to the effects pedal then how will the effects pedal will supply good quality tones to amps .output boxes .stage moniters. Its simple logic .I saw a bengali rock band name fossils in a rock concert .The band is very famous .The guitarist was using a boss GT8 because his pedal board had problems. The tones .effects were World class .Also in a live stage the sound engineer is very very important for balancing the instruments ..
Hiya buddy I have recently found you while I wait for delivery of my GT1 . Can’t wait . Question I’ve tried to find the software package your using on the video but can find it anywhere . Is it still in existence since you did the video ?
Very informative. I'm a little frustrated cuz I was trying to replicate the tone of the intro to She Sells Sanctuary and can't pair a chorus AND a flanger.
Has anyone had any experience with the GT-1 and a Headrush FRFR speakers? I am curious about how they sound, the usability and etc. I would assume they would sound alright together, but just wondering if they were any issues with them.
I have been going back and forth over these pedals. Some say the GT-1 is old technology but I only care about the tone and to be able to switch between presets or patches on the fly. Am I wrong to keep coming back to wanting to buy the GT-1 ?
Valetone GP 200 is very simple with classic . acoustic.distortion flanger .wah .etc etc ..but no effects pedals can give quality tones if the guitar is not good .
Thanks for a fab demo on setting up patches! I need a lighter weight version of my GT10 for acoustic gigs so I think this will be perfect. Are you able to tell me if i can save 2 effects at the same time to the CTL pedal? Eg... have a clean Chs patch and have the CTL pedal to add say Delay and a milld OD. Cheers!
That was a great overview Paul... cheers. It has helped me setup my GT 1 for a forthcoming gig. Just one point - isn't the Lead-Wah patch overkill as you can switch on the WAH from the pedal... so the Crunch Lead patch could have the wah by just activating the pedal... unless I'm missing something? But great video and channel.
Great video on how to use it in live setting. Most of us use it in this way I think anyway. How do you set your lead volume increments on the GT-1? I found with the GT-100 that in the studio the lead difference was great, but on stage it would not cut through. Any tips?
Sir let say you did a Great job thank you for all and please could you tel me when can I find or get a Software of this multieffects that I bought without software...... thank you for all your services and performances
Quick easy question if you write your own patch as Paul did and then write save it , does it over write it over write the original patch and so you lose the original or is it save espératelo to the itch you name ?
amazing processor, but why they have no power supply other than batteries is just wtf, I mean, there is absolutely nobody in my country that sells power adaptors for boss, even the ones who sell tons of their products
I am using a universal power adapter, it works perfectly and is cheaper than the official one. Just pick one that has enough Voltage and Amperage, and a variety of connectors.
i have boss gt-1 connected to my computer via usb.. i run the Boss Tone Studio for GT-1 application. In the connections, I select the Midi In Midi Out and Audio In and Audio Out options, all for GT-1 .. I click connect and after a few seconds the window returns to select the connection option for Midi In ,Out and Audio In ,Out .. and so same thing over and over... why?
