I found a New Boss Katana 210 bass combo at Klangfarbe in Vienna so I had to plug in and see how it sounds. I go over some of its features, then demo it with a Classic Vibe Bass from Squier and have a little chat about what I think in the review at the end.

There's a Katana Bass question mark, you don't need to write question mark, you can just put the? Bass player here, glad to hear that it is loud enough! As a bassist that likes the bassier tones and lots of effects, I think it's a great thing that the Bass Katana includes these. Just because the amp has ALL THE EFFECTS doesn't mean that they have to be used all at once, or all the time! 😉Additionally, the Blend control (let's you blend in your clean signal) is paramount, and frankly, should be included on all bass effects. Great video!

I’m a bass player, but bought a Katana Artist 100 after watching your review/s on it to play rhythm/lead/electric acoustic through. It is a great guitar amp and does everything (and more!) that I want. But being primarily a bass player, I simply don’t need all of the wiz-bangery widgets on a bass amp. I want my bass amp to shake the floor, not tear the paint off the walls. A good equaliser range, nice compressor and a 15inch speaker will do 95% of what I want all the time. Boss make great amps, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see their next bass amp effort to be a pared back package with a lot more bottom-end (think Fender Rumble style..) and much simpler to use. Remember, we;re bass players after all..

Haha! I have the same gear bias. I love my katana mk2 50 for guitar experimentation and fun, but nothing compares to my Ampeg SVT-CL!

@@aprilkurtz1589 That is the only thing I dislike. Fortuitously for me I played college football, and can move it safely and gently Now with tube shortages it absolutely has to be handled carefully. I started leaving it at our drummers house, so I was considering one of Ampeg's lighter heads. Good lookin out, I'll check out the VB4! I do want to play the KBass amp, but since I already have cabs it doesn't make as much sense.

@@warpdriveby I forgot how much it weighs..for the 69-73 I've seen weights ranging from almost 70 to 80 lb. So really not that much less than an SVT. Ampegs are pretty good on tubes, I just make sure it's cooled down before I move it.

I have a classic-vibe p-bass & I love it. Surf-green … maple-board w/black block-inlays. I needed a cheap-bass for recording & it’s more than workable.

🎶Batana Kass in the places knocking over all ya glasses and vases boomin that thump straight inta faces Light enough to carry to all the cool places 🎶 I bet it makes a wicked blue tooth speaker with the added module. BOSS if you read this please include the Bluetooth and a footswitch, you can raise the price a bit if needed.

The Blend knob is probably to let you mix your wet and dry tone when using effects. For a bass player who mixes between a lot of sounds, either in a set or between bands I guess it's perfect. There's a Katana bass question mark 😁

There is a Katana bass amp ? You should have tried the mix knob with the distortion. I guess it's for letting some clean through in parallel. If it's class A/B what's the weight of it? I have an old 200Watt combo which is a pain to carry around (40kg or more). That's why I bought a top cab combination. But now I would just get me an active PA-Monitor and plug my preamp pedal with speaker sim in that.

Guitar Katana does not come with blue tooth connectivity at all but a module is an option for blue tooth with the bass Katana. Both can be connected by USB lead to access the tone studio settings.

I use the Boss Katana 50 MkII with my bass all the time. It sounds great, but I use it as a practice amp mostly. But the sealed back 2x10 cab is likely better for bass. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the tone/effect/amp models could be loaded onto the other models.

That amp is for guitar only right? Is it harmful if you use a bass on it?

@@israelvlbs No, while it's meant for a guitar, it can be used with a bass. Could very well sound bad without a way to remedy it, since the eq section is tuned for guitar but for practice purposes it could be ok. Maybe if you have an active bass it could be wise to not go too loud, since you don't wont to overload the speaker, but you'll probably hear it when/if that happens

@@israelvlbs Most important difference is: bass cabs are closed, guitar cabs are open. Distance from front to back of the membrane is a bit short for bass wavelengths. Insert a 20mm mdf plate into the back of your Katana and it rocks as bass amp.

I have the 210 and i compare it to dlc in a video game. You buy it at full price, then you get to buy the bluetooth module, foot switches, 2 pedals and foot controller.

Until I see/hear a propper demo of it in a band setting I will remain unconvinced of its use as anything other than a very loud big practice amp. I had a 300w Trace Elliot (Notoriously loud clear anps) and it only just managed to keep up with a full band and live drums. To me its too big expensive and overpowered for a "bedroom" amp, and its doesn't have enough oomph and air shifting ability to be a practical useable gig amp. Theres better cheaper smaller options for bedroom use, and better sometimes cheaper more powerful options for live.

@@timodelange It's (to me) just a toy or a gadget (and a very expensive one for what it is) - it probably does an ok job, but then I have a Mooer Hornet White as a practice amp that does an ok job and only costs £90. There seems to be a lot of RU-vid reviewers (most I respect) who are doing backflips over this amp like it's the second coming of Christ. I would not gig with a bass amp thats less than 500w, 300 at a push, and if I was relying on DI'ing into a Desk I would get a HX stomp (which I own) and save £300. I got rid of all my big rigs due to health issues but my HX stomp coupled with a 12" Headrush FRFR is a 1000 times more versatile and using the FRFR cab would walk this live.

@@TheGuitarGeek With all due respect, as I know you are a knowledgeable chap, I have been playing bass guitar for in the region of 40 years. The early 90's GP7SM I reffered to was as far as I am aware class A/B. I have also owned and or played through Ampegs (both solid state and Tube - the V4B in particular on the Tube side) Warwicks, Oranges, and a good few others. There is a fundemental difference between what is required power wise by a guitar Amp and a bass amp. A good rule of thumb I was always told was to have a bass amp rated at least 3 times that of a guitar amp - hence why the SVT's are 300 - ish watts. As I said, I will remain unconvinced till I hear one in a live setting, not close mic'd, next to a full on guitar and drum setup at full tilt.

Should have learned how to use this before doing a so called demo. More emphasis on HOW to utilize the features rather than fumbling around with what it might be able to do and asking yourself questions.
