I love the random elements of analog gear, I've replaced everything digital on my board and have no regrets. Hoping to upgrade from my MXR bass octave to an OC-2 or Octron3 in the near future. Super fun video as always, guys, cheers!
That's a tough call. When you have to listen that close, they are that similar. You do get more sounds with the OC-5, but you get the imperfections of the OC-2.
I bought my OC-2 in '99 for $99 and it remains one of two pieces of gear I've never parted with (it's flawless - I have the box and paperwork!). That said, I was prepared to finally sell it to upgrade to the OC-5. I am so glad I saw this video first - you saved me from a horrible mistake. The OC-5 is cool and if they make a true Waza Octave one day I'll probably buy one, but for now, there's no reason for me to part with my favorite tonal component. Thanks, fellas!
I hear no major difference but the OC-5 has more capabilities, and it’s digital. The OC-2 is analog. Both beautiful. Would have been nice to hear it paired w a fuzz pedal or a univibe or leslie emulator :) thanks for the vid guys!!
I have the infamous E-H Micro POG a totally acquired taste as it sounds more like a pipe organ than a guitar. LOL One simply get's creative. I put it thru a comp, chorus, a digital delay then a slap back analog delay. With a really hard gate that chops off any decay and writing faux organ parts it gives you a surprisingly convincing huge cathedral Phantom of the Opera vibe :-).
To me, it's so interesting how the OC2 sounds nice to my ear and it's due to the slightly imperfect recreation of the octave effect. Perfect is not always better! The OC5 is obviously pretty versatile and useful too just depending on what you're going for. I just wish the level of the OC2 was a little louder, but I would recommend a boost pedal to help with this minor shortcoming. I also have the TC sub n up, it creates a spot on recreation of high and low octaves, but is just a bit too nice sounding (in an artificial way). It does a good job of getting that organ sound from a bass. I think the key to which pedal is best for your needs, is figuring what type of sound you're going for. Or there's also the argument for a couple of octave pedals on your board, to give you the best of both worlds like I do!
