I have a question. Can set up the loops to punch in according to tempo. That way they are exactly 4 bars, or 2 bars long...meaning if I dont quite time my foot perfectly on a stop say like bar 3 beat 3...how do you make it to where the loop is still a perfect 4 bars. Know what I mean? I am aware of the other method of the loop being just the time when u start and stop the record, but does it do the other way too? Thanks
Hey Logan. So yes, you can do this and set the beat and the bar measurements per loop and per memory. Set the tempo and save that to the memory. Then go into LOOP and then press each loop (track 1-6) in there you will see both ‘Measure’ and ‘Loop sync’. These are the parameters you can use to dictate the length of each loop. That way you know that it’s only going to record for those measures in that specific loop. 👍🏼
Hi JP! Here’s a question: can we do multiple voice canon with this ? (Like Pachelbel’s canon !? with let’s say 16 measures later for the first repetition voice, then another 8 later for the second one) Thank you!
John… great channel! I just found you, and I’m watching all the rc600 videos. Thanks! I’m about to watch this vid now, so it might answer my question, but I’m wondering if there’s a list or video with the guitar modeling info. I.e., acoustic and electric model types (like “electric clean” or “Fender Twin” or “Acoustic”) Thoughts? 😎👍🎸
Just received mine some days ago.... first impression : just breathless about the sound out of it : no loss of input signal quality neither with guitar, nor voice or keys... I would even say that playing a little with EQ from the unit, your sound is crystal clear, sharp, with deep bass... I am using with a VL3X upstream for voice effects.
Nice. Yeah my chain is TC-Helicon Voicelive play acoustic first then into the RC-600 out to PA, which is pretty simple. Yeah the 32-bit floating is a game changer. Did a loop with multiple overdubs and me wailing multiple harmonies and just stopped playing and listened. No distortion, no degradation. Bliss.
Your vids are great, so I decided to watch your entire playlist. I'd seen and heard you before, but never had I heard you perform. It was truly a moving and lovely performance, a perfect way to demonstrate the RC600. I'm sure we all appreciate your hard work and passsion.
I just bought the rc600 today. I’ve watched several of your vids, thank you very much for the instruction. I’ve been curious the whole time as to weather or not you could actually sing. Well, you can obviously. I loved your original piece at the beginning. Great job!

Just ordered mine this morning. It'll be here Wednesday. Hoping it has the same functionality as the RC5 and RC500 that I've been sampling. For what the 2 I have cost, the RC 600 is a cost effective upgrade I just hope it's not missing any features I love on my two present units... Thank you for the rundown !!!!!
Man you really killed it on that first number 😆. TBH if I was a Boss rep and knew what you'd do with this on your channel any risk I'd consider in lending you this unit, well it would be worth it 😆 Thank you for the crazy breakdown I think you've managed to explain the big picture in a very understandable way.
Love the song at the beginning of the video. You've got a very cool voice to listen to. Appreciate these videos as I am just learning how to loop, and I bought this RC 600 as my first loop machine. Maybe that was a mistake because it is absolutely overwhelming! If you have any other resource suggestions for a brand new beginner like me, I'd love to know about them!

Hey, sorry I haven’t given your channel much love lately. I’m happy to see you’ve got the 600. I plan on learning everything about it from your videos!! Looking forward to them.
Great video man. I will be watching the rest and ordering mine soon! Once I have it and start playing with it I will give you some questions. Will watch your other videos and play with it first, as I'm sure many questions I'll have you have already addressed.
Certainly. Many questions answered are in the playlist for the RC-600.. and I go even deeper into the RC-600 in my Course which you can find here: www.johnpaulmusic.co.uk/offers/Bw8uzFw2/checkout
Thank you for the comprehensive content my friend. I’m not figuring out how to set each track to correspond with the others… for example, if I lay down a 4 measure rhythm on 1, I can’t get the other tracks to operate within those same measures. I hope that made sense. I imagine it’s something quite simple I’m overlooking. Could you please advise. I’m finding myself less tech savvy with each passing day. All the best my friend!
Hey 👋 So you need to have a look at how all the loops are set for recording. Click Loop, Rec and look at quantise to be on. Then look at each track before anything is recorded and see if it is set to free or auto, which is best.. or you can dictate the amount of loops for that memory if you prefer. 👍🏻
@@JohnPaulMusicUK much appreciated my friend. I believe I was missing that second step. I really appreciate you taking the time to respond and will continue to recommend all of my looping contemporaries subscribe to you. Warmest regards!

Thank you for this! My first question is WHEN WILL I GET MINE!!! lol But seriously, 1) Does this have an effect that helps make the guitar sound like a bass? Does it sound ok? 2) Is there a delete all without using an external controller? 3) Having used it, standing up, do you find the buttons harder to step on while playing? 4) In general just helpful ideas to make playing easy. Thank you!
Hey Johnny 👋 Awww if I could whisk one to you, I would. 1) yes a dedicated Guitar to Bass effect is there - I used that as a vocal effect in the demo. 2) yes - finally a clear all loops! The all start stop has options and one of them is if your hold down, it’s clears all the tracks. 👍🏼 3) The buttons are certainly harder to hit than an RC-300 for example cause of the size but I’m used to switches from using the Headrush Looperboard for years and the RC-500. You can always get something like big button adapters like BareButtons. 👍🏼 4) will show you in the coming videos but seriously having different setups for different things saved to memories is probably my best answer. Adapt it for YOUR setup. It can do SO MUCH!
One more JP, if you miss the down beat is there a way to have it sinc so you dont have the gap when you play live, so you don't have to start your loop over. Hope that make sense. Thanks again
The only real way is to dictate the number of loops that track is going to have. You can go into the settings under LOOP and REC and there you can tell the RC-600 how many bars that loop is. You can specify differently for all 6 and save that to the memory. Useful when you go straight into Play - Dub cause you can relax and overdub without pedal dancing. 👍🏻
Awesome video. Great introduction to the RC-600. I saw your Headrush vs RC-600 comparison video and realised how far behind Boss/Roland is with the UI. Because of this, I actually bought the Aeros looper that has a fantastic UI. However, without the Midi Maestro, that looper requires a different operation with more pushbuttons in the 6x6 mode. I also have the TC Helicon Play Acoustic pedal and saw your pedalboard and thought that that may be a small compact option. Then, I saw your Gigcaster 8 video and thought that that could be a real substitute for the Play Acoustic, with many more useful functions. So, I am wondering if combining the Gigcaster 8 with the RC-600 is the utopian solution. Any thoughts?
I would like to know how to let it start immediately recording and looping, cause now I have a delay of 1 or 2 seconds... And thanks! Your video is really helpfull for a complete beginner as I am. 🙂
Hey 👋 Glad I’m helping. You have a delay?! Are you pressing the button at the same time as the beat? Is the timing right on the loop? Have a look at this video - ru-vid.comvhSf8SJ3ymg?feature=share
FINALLY! I have been waiting JP's RC-600 videos since November and now we have are finally here. It is truly odd that no one has not made any deep diving videos about this unit. My question: How would you solve the problem between these two situations that my looper song all switching between: Song type 1: All looper tracks are for one chord progression. Song type 2: Looper tracks are for 2-3 different song progression. So can you somehow customize the looper track settings for one song preset? How much stuff can you customize? And could you "group" the spesific tracks so that you could stop/start them more easier if needed. Last points: ⚠️ The biggest dissappointment in this unit is the screen: I mean come on, look at the screen of GT-1000. It is as low tech as this but it actually has some size. This Nokia 3110 resolution was very ok about 2005 but not anymore. Just look how much high resolution information Line 6 has able to fit to the screen of HX Stomp. ✅ But I do like the inputs & outputs and 6 looper tracks
Hey Ben 👋 Good to see you here. 👍🏼 So two situations?.. try 99 situations! You need to get really excited about this.. What people haven’t been able to grasp yet is you can customise the buttons PER MEMORY! So Imagine memory 1 is song type 1 and memory 2 is song type 2 etc it’s THAT customisable. This first video is kind of ‘here it is out of the box’ but BOY can you change that!! You have 27 functions (9 buttons with 3 modes each) per memory! Then there are input / output routing, input fx routing, Track fx routing.. honestly this thing has the potential to be the next beast for most people. Yeah I get you with the screen - going from the Headrush Touchscreen to this one with control knobs - i get it. Would have liked a bigger, colour touch screen.
Hey JP, Thanks for a fantastic and thorough walkthrough! I'm still listening through it with great interest. Thanks in advance for your exploration of USB vendor mode that turns the RC600 into an 8-in/8-out interface. I'm super interested in this, since it seems like it would allow me to stream a multitrack performance straight to my DAW. I checked out the manual and parameter guide, and found the USB switch in the latter manual, but no other information. Is there more information in the manuals? Please do dedicate time to clarifying this feature, and its benefits and limitations. To be able to capture a whole song into a DAW without having to transfer WAV files track by track may tip me over the edge on this beast!
Can the RC600 do loop aging in dub mode (aka cascading or Fripper loops)? I would like to see the "Dub Mode Replace 1" in action if you could fit it in somewhere. Also, can the tracks be totally independent of one another and not sync? Like totally random? Been doing some ambient music and it helps keep it unpredictable and interesting. Thanks for the insight and for doing these videos. Cheers
Hey Rob 👋 So there is no Aging in dub mode. The replace 1 and 2 are there to replace the loop completely. 1 is there to record and replace whilst the original is playing and 2 is there to not play the original track. Secondly, yes. All the loops can be independent and in free mode and have loop sync off.
May I have a technical answer from you? I play guitar as a one-man-band. Can this device work as a looper and multi-effects? I play songs in single-track mode: verse, chorus, break. Can looper tracks 1,2,3 be assigned to buttons 1,2,3 and FX programs to buttons 4,5,6? For example, 4 = compressor + octaver, 5 = preamp + chorus + reverb, 6 = preamp + distortion_delay + reverb?
Yes is can. in fact it has 3 modes per memory so you have not 9 buttons.. but 27 buttons you can program up either as the system or amazingly, per memory!
Hey JP, nice recording and initial demo of this beast! It is very impressive. When I think of workflow with this looper, with so many tracks and tools, I would like to use it in many ways, and I would especially want to be able to transfer the work I put in on this device to a DAW, in my case Ableton Live. In my opinion Boss has decided to stick with a very old and limiting means of transferring files, one by one, each in a separate folder. File naming & transfer is limiting, time consuming and requires paper and pencil tracking even on my Two-track RC 500. Porting over six tracks for each song I happen to create just seems like too much. All of this leads me to be more inclined to simply go to the DAW from the start, for anything over two tracks, skipping the benefits of a hardware looper with more features than the RC 500. I guess I am not so excited by multi track live looping as to be willing to put up with the daunting file transfer process that the RC 600 would require. If Boss had added a file bundling process that would essentially transfer a single zip file of whatever was recorded, with multiple tracks and even perhaps sequences, I would be far more tempted to readjust my workflow to accommodate this otherwise amazing machine. I think the Aeros looper has done more of this, but that looper has limits regarding how well it plays with other midi devices, and I like my Morningstar MC8. All in all, I am a little more inclined to stick with the RC 500 for a while on my live performance board. My simple question is, have you considered this concern? Perhaps your live performance workflow doesn’t need to transfer into the studio, and you re-create everything directly in the studio without needing to transfer many tracks. Anyway, I would be interested in your thoughts.
Hey Adam. Good to hear from you. Yeah it’s something that it’s difficult I suppose but I haven’t yet considered that. Have only just updated the firmware and haven’t played around with the file transfer. It is different cause there are 6 loops, fx, rhythm, 27 button settings, 16 midi assigns and more to contend with for 99 memories. Defiantly reach out to boss and formulate an email about this cause it’s something that will get more and more needed as time goes on.
Hey Dast so there are 2 main options with audio interface. One is ‘generic’ where you get the output of mains of the unit. The other is ‘vendor’ which will interest a lot of people as it turns the unit into an 8-in, 8-out interface. Something I am looking into. If I’m going to live stream, I would just use it as Generic but Vendor is going to be very useful for multi-track performance capture. 👍🏼

How to connect and assign the volume pedal and the Boss FS-7 Dual Footswitch that can be assigned to change from Verse to Choras and Fill in / or intro drum to change Drum Rhythm ( from Drum A Rhythm to Drum B Rhythm )
Hi John, thanks for the channel, very helpful. I'm having trouble connecting the rc-600 to my computer. When I change the USB setting it never moves past "CONNECTING", essentially seems to freeze there. I've updated the firmware as per your video. I also made sure to download the latest BOSS TONE STUDIO. I have a show Saturday and am trying to upload some WAVS as a backing to a couple songs, would love a video on that subject to, ways of using it as a backing track.. and perhaps looping on top of that.. Hope to hear from you, thanks, Ash
Hey Ash. That’s no worries. Oooh.. that’s weird. Have a look at the playlist of all the RC-600 videos I have made - ru-vid.com/group/PLO36LpORUSaa9-oX7LbZ4CRRUHMiWoU0s
@@JohnPaulMusicUK thanks for the reply Paul, I’d had a good look, couldn’t find anything on these specifics. However, although the screen stayed on “connecting” , the WAVS did load, so progress! Will keep digging for nuggets on your page, thanks
Great stuff! thanks and quick question is I’m a songwriter and wanted to see if it is possible to create a sequence so if track 1 is verse 2 is chorus etc, can I program a sequence to have i with one press, play intro, verse, chorus verse chorus outro? OR so I need to press each time to change it? The Digitech Trio + has this feature and loved it! thanks JP
If you’re at the point where you need a complete sequence of a song, then is it not better to record the whole song as a single loop and music like a backing track? Just curious as if you’re not going to interrupt that sequence then you are basically playing a backing track. The RC-600 can record upto 1 & 1/2 hours per memory what is the total memory of 13 hours for all 99 memories. Just something to think about as it could be easier if it’s just one or two songs to make them full backing tracks. Hope that helps.
I talk about the comparisons in the live stream I did yesterday which is here : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-x4b-vcPcrts.html But I will be doing a video.
Great Video! Q1. Do we have vocal harmony on this? Q2. If I want to EQ a Particular Loop track - (like EQ my incoming Percussive Guitar), can I do that with some assignable button? Q3. Do we have some boss tones in this, like basic clean and distortion/high gain (sh*t I am so greedy😄)
Q1. Yes but is either static or via midi. Q2. Yes. You can either reassign one of the 27 buttons (9 x 3modes) or an external. Q3. Yes there are quite a few. 👍🏻
Oh really? Step on that quick. Try Thomann.. they even ship to the US but you might end up with a European plug. Boss RC-600 Loop Station thmn.to/thoprod/529921?partner_id=46515
@@JohnPaulMusicUK Thanks John Paul! Sorry, but one more question if you don't mind. Is it possible to record midi on a track? For example a patch change, so I can change my synth sound with the pedal. :-)
Kind of - so you can send midi commands in, out & thru the device. You would have to find a way to manipulate one of the Assigns to do what you want. Humm 🤔 wondering if it possible.. not 100% on this..
@@JohnPaulMusicUK In the manual they mention only start and stop commands, so I'm doubting it and sent an e-mail to Roland support. Anyway, big thanks for the reply. Think I will go for the purchase anyway tomorrow, it looks brilliant. And then I'll have to watch some more of your tutorials. Final goal is to replace my Mac with Ableton Live. One of the main challenges will be to send the click to the drummer. Excited 😱
GREAT VIDEO THANKS !!!! +How does one over-ride and re-program the default "phones +master out being tied together"? (I prefer to have control of each individually..)
Hello. thank you for your great videos. I know how to switch display screens manually. i would love to be able to move from the loop status screen to the effect screen without having to bend down and press the arrow button. i don't see any assigns for this. Any tips?
Hey 👋 So I have been looking into this last night for you and you are right. There is no assign for this and looks like something they don’t include. However, I would advise to maybe reach out to Boss Support and maybe mention it for a future firmware update. That would be really useful. 👍🏻
Can I get rid of using a separate guitar multi-effects processor and vocal effects unit? That would be so cool to just take the rc600 on gigs and have the guitar and vocal using the effects in the rc600. I'm sure that's what a lot of us are hoping for. If anyone can show us how it's you, John Paul
Hey Walt. Watch the live stream I did last night. Over 2hrs answering questions about it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-x4b-vcPcrts.html There are a LOT of effects and they can all be assigned. There are crazy effects and cab effects and vocal effects. More videos coming about that soon. 👍🏻
Sounds like Boss still has a bunch of development to do on the firmware. Do you have a video on the current issues? The FB page and reviews at Sweetwater are not good.
Nope. Don’t have a video of the issues.. and they way I loop I have only come across one issue that has already been fixed (which was the intro problem with tracks 2&3 in single mode adding a bar). Not saying there are no other issues.. there are.. I just don’t have them due to how I use the looper.
maybe someone asked already and I know they are different beasts at same level but if you had to choose the rc-600 over rc-505 MkII would the "Floor" control win out. Sorry if someone asked already I just about to push button on one and your video(Cool demo BTW) is swaying me towards the 600 -Thanks
I’m gonna ask you one question alan. ‘What do you want it to do?’ If you want to control things with your hands and don’t want 6 loops and constantly need to get to volume control etc.. get the 505mkii If you me hands are busy and you want to control via feet. Get the 600. I know someone who has ordered both and they are going to test them out and just return one. Good idea if you have the money. 😉 A curveball for 505mkii is that you can put a pedal switch and midi with it. But the 600 has that extra loop and more customisation for the pedals. Have a look at the live stream I did yesterday if you want. Over 2hrs of answering questions ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-x4b-vcPcrts.html
@@JohnPaulMusicUK as a lone musician I was intrigued by the 505 but as a guitarist I can’t get around the free hands aspect to control . Thanks for coming back to me . Appreciated
Great video thanks John! Most detailed video on the RC 600 yet!! I'm very grateful because i've had one on order since early December and i'm told I wont get mine until March. My set up is going to involve Acoustic guitar on one jack input, Electric guitar on another jack input. I'd like to know if you can assign the electric guitar jack input to have multiple FX only, I read somewhere it has a pre amp/cab simulator type effect. I want to run my electric straight into the looper and then into the PA to avoid using pre amp pedals or an amp if possible. Thanks, Ryan
Hey Ryan 👋 Yeah you can indeed do this per input. 👍🏼 so on the input FX, you would make your cab model and then only allow the electric to feed through it so it doesn’t affect the acoustic. 👍🏼 You could set up multiple ones and of course this is all per memory, so you could have different ones for different songs etc. I think a video on this would help a lot of people so keep your ear to the floor as I’ll put that in the list to make. 👍🏼
@@JohnPaulMusicUK That would be great thanks! If that's the case and it's a somewhat decent amp simulator, I'm going to need a lot less pedals when i'm gigging!
Hi JP, been pulling my hair out trying to record a loop into Logic Pro (one of the reasons I bought it because I thought I could transfer stuff into there and work on it there). Using USB I can manage to create a midi track and hear it but for some reason I can't record anything. Really frustrating. Maybe it's something pretty dumb and simple. I'm not really that knowledgable about Midi stuff.
Hi Paul great channel mate. The input thru function< can it be set to individual as in inst input Thru OFF and mic input Thru ON? I like my Guit to go from my HX stomp to PA with a bleed off from the send to feed the looper as I don't need the effects But need the Effects on the vocal mic input, as my TC harmony GXT is a bit limited on Effects if that makes sense, Or any other suggestions for this ? Cheers Ronny.
Yes. You can have it so that the effects only affect the vocal but not the guitar but that is a different setting. Goto FX and change the inputs from all to just the vocals. 👍🏻
I don't understand the effects limitation. Is it possible to use 4 input effects on guitar and vocals at the same time? Is it possible to assign 4 vocal effects to a vocal line and 4 guitar effects to a guitar line and play with 8 effects at once?
Are the input FX in parallel or in series?, +if they are in series, is it set up in an intelligent order so the Reverb is always after the delay? or is it set up to where signal hits input FX-A before hitting input FX-B, which is before FX-C, which is before FX-D??
Hey 👋 So in term of sound chain I believe they are setup in serial. Cause if you but fx a on (let’s say a radio) and then fx b (bass) you will get just that. Now you can turn them on/off in serial or have them turn only one at a time so as you turn one on the other turns off. In terms of setup, that’s up to you. 100% up to you and can be different per memory.
Hi JohnPaul, thank you so much for your videos, it was a huge help for my looper selection, and I ended up getting it ! should arrive Tuesday, I can't wait ! However I have a little question about the input fx, is it possible to have fx assigned per input ? for exemple a combination of fx for the mic input, another combination for the guitar, and another for a synth ? If so how ? Thank you in advance ! Keep the good content coming !
Hi! Oh that’s great news. So for the Boss RC-600 you can have a total of 16 input FX and 16 Track FX but can only use 4 of each at any one time. It’s 4 banks of 4 FX so you could build effects for each instrument/ input and then cycle through the banks as you use each one. 👍🏻 Hope that helps and check this out for more - ru-vid.comhZL5lRmdzkY?feature=share
WOW! You have totally spotted something I've 100% forgotten about! now asking myself why I didn't do that? Video now in the queue.. watch this space.👍🏻
@JohnPaulMusicUK amazing thank you, I play pop punk which does go from full speed chorus to half speed verses and was wondering what it would sound like :-)
Hi JP. I'm looking to purchase one of these soon. I'm actually interested in the half speed function but I haven't been able to find a video of it in use. Do you have a video that shows it being used? Thanks for your time. Adam
Great overview! I’m trying to figure out how to assign I puts to certain tracks, but don’t know if it’s possible with the boss. With the head rush, I could have track one only taking input 1, track 2 only taking inputs 2&3 for example. Is that possible on the boss rc600?
Yes it’s 100% possible. Go to the track itself (LOOP > TRK1 ) and right page all the way to the end. There you will see the inputs page for that loop and you can switch them on/off as you want. Pro TIp - once you have done TRK1, just press the LOOP button and your jump to TRK2 without having exit the menu and enter again. Then just continue to press LOOP in that menu and you will cycle through all the Tracks no matter where you are. So much faster. 👍🏼
If you have just recorded something then the dedicated undo/redo button with activate on the last track you did something on.. but.. you can hold the Rec/Play button of that track for undo and redo. That’s the default but you can also change this. 👍🏻
My question is - how do you assign a control button to change the Input Effects Bank up (then a separate control button could be assigned with Input effects bank down) ? I have only been able to assign input effects bank change to a knob under the screen - which, isn't ideal. Thank you for your lessons.
To do this, go to Menu, Click across one (right), pick Assign, use an assign and turn it on. Pick the pedal you want (source) to use and then pick the target as either IN FX BNK INC/DEC for input fx bank up/down or TRK FX BNK INC/DEC for track fx up and down. Then use a second assign for the DEC or INC which ever you want. Remember to then go into the pedal on the modes (MENU-CTRL/FUNC) and turn off that same pedal from its original job. Alternatively you could do the same with an FS6/7 pedal. Hope that makes sense.
Yay! I’ve been waiting for in depth on this model. Glad you got one JP! How do you like it compared to Looperboard? I definitely prefer Boss 600’s smaller footprint. I’m also hoping Boss really got this thing tweaked out, so it doesn’t so many updates as the Aeros and LP need. I’m really glad to hear you can choose some loops to be parallel and others to be series. That opens up a lot of possibilities. I would love to see you demo that. Also, I would more info on using the drums. I’ve been mostly using the RC- 10R, which has cool fills. I’m guessing this probably doesn’t have thar, but I’m interested in different options for controlling the drums. Also, can you use different drums for different parts of the song?
Hey Julie. Ooooh your in for a treat. So I think once you get your head around it, the 600 is a total beast. I am missing the big screen a little bit but it’s just cause it’s different and you rely on the big circle to tell you where you are. Yes you can change the single and multi’s per loop and that’s very clever. I have a #shorts video on this. ru-vid.comO1oo0VxtI-g?feature=share Also the drums section is different but it uses that RC Rhythm converter that you can make your own which is exciting. I have made a playlist of all the RC-600 video I’ve made including #shorts and live streams and I will continue to add to it. Enjoy. 👍🏻 ru-vid.com/group/PLO36LpORUSaa9-oX7LbZ4CRRUHMiWoU0s

I don't want to remove the outer orb, I just want to remove the blue color.. (Bright BLUE [or white] led lights are not just annoying.. they're bad for sleep cycles /endocrine system / +the eyes.)
sort of.. not the colour but you can change what it does which would change the colours.. go to MENU> SETUP and you can change the Loop Indicator and the Orb Indicator as well. But you cant customise the colours.
@@JohnPaulMusicUK yep that's what I already did actually. (The red+green flashing thing is maybe a bit better but still obnoxious, so I just REMOVED the outer orb instead) a band-aid fix for a problem that hopefully they will correct in a future update by adding a dimmer to the lights.. or at least an option for fewer white +blue-based lights.. If U talk to Boss please tell them that we really don't want to have to wear sunglasses while operating this thing..
very interested in the audio routing capability and methods available, I plan on using this with live band, and I would like to send A dedicated click to drummer within the headphone mix while allowing the drummer a dedicated start stop, what is the count in click possible settings (number of bars before loop starts etc)
Hey John. You can certainly do this with a dedicated feed and even use an external pedal like an FS5U to give to the drummer coming from the RC-600 to control the start stop. I’ll dive into the settings about the count in settings. 👍🏼
Hi there 😀, I want to play live too with this machine, I didnt find on the manual a clic routing for the phone output. The drummer in the band wants a clic before the song starts in the headphone... so when the loop is coming in the song, he will be on the right beat. This is the only thing who stop us to buy it 🤷♂️ The voicelive extrem does it, but it s à very complicate machine, we want to replace it. Thanks for the reply
So the information about this is in the parameter guide available on Boss’ site. It doesn’t give you a step by step but shows you what’s possible as there are literally hundreds of combinations. It’s in the routing options. Believe me, this will end up being your bible for the RC-600 - static.roland.com/assets/media/pdf/RC-600_Parameter_eng01_W.pdf
@@JohnPaulMusicUK Thanks JohnPaul, still waiting for my delivery, recently seen some being delivered here in the states. I may use the rhythm import tool to create custom backing drum tracks , after some initial reading of the manual the tool to import custom midi files makes it possible with the wasting of one track for a dedicated click per song/patch. this way i can allow my drummer a stop/start to the one loop track giving him the time to feel the tempo and click off the band.,. my responsibility will be building the loops with my guitar/voc etc, once he sets the time.. no room for error here .. thanks for the guide, been looking for it , exactly what I needed!
@@JohnPaulMusicUK thank you for the reply John ! I download the files alreday but without the machine it s quite difficult But i will get it soon Cheers from france
I use a Voicelive 3, and ordered a RC-600 to try. Boss knows guitar FX... How are the vocal Reverbs and Delays? Also, BIG question... is there Vocal harmony? Fixed Key or tracked by guitar input? Thanks! Great channel!
Yo! So yes yes and yes. The reverbs, delays and cab modelling is pretty good. There are vocal harmonies - hybrid, fixed and midi. My best advice is have a look at the parameter guide from pages 36 onwards and there are a LOT of effects to talk about static.roland.com/assets/media/pdf/RC-600_Parameter_eng01_W.pdf Also we did a live stream last night of over 2hrs and we went into the effects - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-x4b-vcPcrts.html
Good afternoon, sir. Thank you for your interesting videos. I would like to use the Boss RC - 600 as a vocal and guitar processor. And a backing tracks player in one enclosure. I don't do looping. So, it is not clear to me exactly if it is possible to assign 4 effects to the vocal line (mono) and another 4 effects to the guitar line (mono). And play and sing with the backing track. And will it be possible to program different guitar and vocal effects into the memory for each backing track. And another question, will it be possible to program 2 buttons to walk up and down through the programmed playlist?
Hi Nerius. To answer your questions, the FX have input FX and Track FX. Input effects are what you affect the guitar and vocals with. Track effects with change the backing track. So for effects to the instruments and vocals, you have a total of 4 you can use together. It is possible to change the buttons to move up and down and yes, you can indeed have different FX for different memories/songs. HOWEVER.. is this the right pedal for you? Are you not looking for a dedicated backing track machine and then have a separate Fx processor? Have a look at the Idoru P-1 backing track unit. idoru.live
@@JohnPaulMusicUK Good evening, thank you for your reply. It is now clear that the Boss RC-600 is definitely not the right choice for me. Thank you for the information about the backing track player. But I'm looking for a device that has guitars, vocal effects + player in one housing, in one box. What do you think, maybe the Headrush Looperboard would be a good choice? ( TC Helicon VL3X - not suitable, I gigged with it for 4 years and it started to malfunction - blue blank screen problem). Headrush Looperboard doesn't have limitations for the internal effects chain?
Excellent presentation! My question is: (when u have 6 foot-switches dedicated to "play/stop2" on the same mode..) Can U explain all the different ways to "select current track" before+after it's been recorded/played/stopped? Do u really need to waste another valuable foot-switch for that? or are there other ways of "selecting" a "current track" before overdubbing or undo/redo-ing.. ??
It’s up to you. The other way to do it would be maybe have a select current track UP and then you could cycle through them. Genuine question.. Why would you want to select it before recording/undo/redo etc? Just genuinely curious.
@@JohnPaulMusicUK Hi, The short answer is because (with 6 "play/stop2" foot switches on the same mode, I don't have a dedicated "Rec" or "undo/re-do" foot switch for each track. +the reason I'm asking what are all the ways that you can "SELECT current track" is because I'm not sure of ANY of the ways to select a track [other than with a dedicated "select cur-track UP" switch, which I'd rather not use..], Also, I don't have the machine yet, so please explain if I am off track on any assumptions) but my understanding (from watching videos +reading parameter guide) is that If i set up 6 channels on the same mode, the way most people do (with 6 different "rec/play/overdub" foot switches) then I'd have to double click a track (to get a track to stop) +I DON'T want to have to do that cuz (I don't like tap dancing) +if I needed to stop a track immediately after recording it, then the double click could make the timing of stops less precise. So I came up with a way of assigning all vital foot switches on 1 "mode" (without having to flip over into mode 2 or 3) which is (6 foot switches programmed as "play/stop2", 1 foot switch programmed as "rec/play1", 1 foot switch as "cur-trk-stop3", +1 switch as "cur-trk-undo/redo",) this uses up all the foot switches on the tin, but it keeps all 6 tracks in view at the same time +enables all vital (play, stop, +record, functions to happen with just one single click. (+I can use the 2 or 4 external foot switches to switch modes, +do other things if I need to) but WITH THIS CONFIGURATION (my understanding is) when nothing is recorded on a track, I could "select" it by stepping on any of the 6 "play/stop2" foot switches?? (hopefully that is true), THEN, (after all tracks are full, I might be turning some of them off, +then wanting to overdub onto a different one that is still on(+so the track I want to stop or overdub onto, (or undo/redo) at that point may not be selected as the CURRENT track, since it may not be the last button I stepped on), so at that point, I'd need to let the rc600 know WHICH track I want to overdub onto, or stop (or undo/redo.) so I thought there must be ways (other than wasting another valuable external foot switch) to select a track (after they are full..) like maybe playing it for a second +turning it off?? or stopping it for a second +re-starting it? (both of which would be a double tap, but it would STILL be better than any other set-up because it would be a double tap that rarely ever needed to happen, whereas most people have "6-channel on one mode" set-ups that require frequent double taps (EVERY TIME THEY STOP A TRACK.) That was why I'm curious to know what are all the ways of selecting current track?.. Sorry if this was long, but without the details it probably would have led to more confusion. Cheers!
I have the most updated firmware. My inputs one both have stopped working!!! This after saving many songs in memory! My only option is a factory reboot???
Have you muted them anywhere? Check the inputs/ outputs pages on Memory. You can always move the loops off via a computer if beforehand before you have to commit to a factory reboot.
How are you liking it so far? I think I’d have to run an MC6 or 8 so I don’t have to use the function keys so much.. love the idea of the smaller footprint tho
It’s good. Did you know you can COMPLETELY reprogram what the buttons do.. and you can even do that per memory!! Something that’s a huge jump. Still have love for the HRLB but this thing is so customisable!
@@JohnPaulMusicUK yes I did know about the foot switch reprogramming, didn’t realize it was per memory tho! Definitely super powerful, I dunno I’m pretty set with the HRLB but it’s good to know Boss finally came to the table with something amazing!
Yeah by default, it’s per system but you can do it and change it to per memory so you can have completely different memories with completely different buttons if you want which is really powerful. Yeah the MC8 is gonna be put through it’s paces. Hehe.
thanks a lot for your introduction - that's great! And actually the box with the rc600 just arrived and I'm looking forward to checking it out and make the first steps. Hers's one question before unpacking the new family member. Is it possible to change the memories with the footswitches or does this have to be done only manually with the knob?
@@JohnPaulMusicUK Thank you - that's really easy to configure. But there's another question that makes my head smoking;-) With the previous loop stations (rc50, rc300 and even the rc500) I never had a problem to turn of the sync for several tracks or phrases. So that I can start a loop session without beat (like with drones, monochord, shruti, humming or didgeridoo). And the rest of the tracks is synced so that I can build up loops with a clear beat structure over the drones. When I do this with the rc600 (for example track1-4 sync on, track 5+6 sync off) it is possible to do but the quality of the recorded sound of the tracks without sync - the drones - is bad, distorted in every played cycle. Is there a step missing in the configurarion? Do you have any idea to solve this problem? thanks!
I remember you saying it's adaptable to battery power. So, I bought it. But I don't remember where you said it, and I don't see anything specifically for it. How would you do this?
So you would need a power bank and the right connector giving off the correct voltage - there are a few companies like ripcord and my volts who sell a cable to connect an RC-600 to a USB battery pack. Alternatively, a pedalboard power supply. Some of them are battery powered. 👍🏻
@@JohnPaulMusicUK Thx so much man! I will def look into those here soon. There's one other thing that's stumping me. How do I get the loop to record immediately when I press it at the end of playing the loop? It keeps lagging and screwing up my timing. It's probably trying to sync me up with the red light hits, but I don't want that. Quantize is off. Start mode is immediate. Stop mode is loop (but that's for when i want the loop to stop playing, not for the recording to stop recording) IDK what else to change? Edit: I think I figured out the cause. I have a finger picking progression already recorded. Trying to save that for later. But I guess it makes any additional recordings sync up with it? I don't have the problem if I delete that recording. But I need that for later...
just got mine today, thanks for the help. You might have said it earlier in the video but at 15:42 you have track two running as a quicker loop than track one. How did you make that happen. I counted to four on track one and then went to track two, counted to two and hit "rec/play", thinking that it would just loop that one faster but it didn't do that. Any tips? Edit: I think I figured it out haha
@@JohnPaulMusicUK only thing that’s annoying is that I try to hit track two to line up with track one…then it acts like I didn’t and I have to wait a whole measure to try again, do you know what I mean?
Try and learn to hit it a quarter beat before bar one beat 1… so if you were to could 1&2&3&4& on a 4/4 bar.. I would look at tapping the button anywhere after 4&. Quantise will take care of the rest. Hope that makes sense.
I want to know if this new unit tracks well with an external clock over midi. The RC-505 has a feature that did not track well with a BeatStep Pro or the better KeyStep Pro. When you record the first track in the older RC- 505 it picks its own tempo for the rest of the tracks. It almost never matches with the external clock. The way around that was to make a dummy first track on the 505 and then set up the tempo to match on the sequencers. This was a process of using the 505 as the master clock source and creating templates saved in other memory slots. You could have all the effects and everything setup And it worked. It's just a lot of trial and error until you have a matched tempo and clock. I was sort of hoping that these tempo midi clock issues were made to work like a dream. You lose a track if it's a dummy. To know if this works the new unit would allow you to select the tempo, and after the first track is recorded it keeps what you selected. Or it slaves to an external midi clock and keeps the setting for all the tracks. Sorry for the tough question. It's a big deal for those in the Eurorack world that want analog looping in sync with midi sequencers and control voltage based connections. I don't mind menu diving to set up great templates.
great work john!! very jealous he he. i owned the RC 300, so looking forward to the upgrade. looking forward to your live feed!! 1/ is it possible to record "one shots" on the fly? (not having to pre-record and then enter menu system and tweak button function etc like rc 300) 2/ would love you to demo a verse /chorus /bridge type song - (track one is generic percussion, while other tracks switch between sections) was curious how quick this can be setup before audience loses attention (assuming its a simple chord structure for all parts) 3/ is it possible to select a kick drum only when using the inbuilt drum machine? or are they mostly combined patterns (snare / hi-hat combo/kick etc..) i like using the kick as my tempo and they build up sounds around this. regards john paul mcbride
Hey 👋 1) you can do a bit of both worlds here. So you could pre-set a loop to be a one shot before a gig and save that to a memory without a recording on it. This saves time and just use one of the memories when you know you are going to do it. Other than that, it’s still changing it in the system. 2) Again, I would setup one of the 99 memories to be a verse/chorus/bridge system with other loops as the rhythm. My ideal would be tracks 1,2,3 as rhythm and 4,5,6 as verse/chorus/bridge. 3) yes. All rhythms have pattern parts and with the brand new rhythm maker on pc and Mac, you can even create parts for the verse chorus Bridge with intros and fills etc. very cool.
Thanks for sharing this John. I notice there are no slider controls for track volume anymore. How are track volumes controlled simultaneously during playback? Is this something that can only be done by a MIDI controller? Sorry if this is a rather simple question, I can't seem to find an answer anywhere.
How do you distinguish instrument effects & mic effects? I just want to set it up for effects, and get it to the gig to replace pedals for harmonizer on vocals, and delay/distortion/compression/sustain for guitar. I'll figure out looping later. I'm going to use it to play wav files I've recorded on Garageband/Logic from previous gigs. Any suggestions on those 2 goals?
Hi, really confused about two things. Firstly why are loop lengths different? This is causing us a nightmare when trying to build up layers. The 500 sets the loop length from the first recorded loop. Secondly can you go from record straight into overdub? Otherwise you have to double click each time to go out of record into play then into overdub. Many thanks, Asa
The RC-600 has 6 independent loops like the RC-300 before it. They are independent but you can set them as the same if you wish. Secondly, yes you can. Go to LOOP>REC and look for Loop Sction and change it from REC/PLAY to REC/DUB. 👍🏼 Download the parameter guide to learn more: static.roland.com/assets/media/pdf/RC-600_Parameter_eng01_W.pdf
Yes. Totally. 👍🏻 When you are making the effects, you are on page 2. Hit the left arrow and go to page one and that shows you what is being effected. It’s on ALL by default but you can specifically select an input. This is what I do with the bass effect. I have it for vocals as I can sing the baseline and loop guitar at the same time. 👍🏻
Hi John Paul - I find the RC-600 adds a lot of compression, particularly if one of your tracks has a high volume. For example, I often add percussion to a loop track by banging on my acoustic guitar. I find doing so causes massive compression when I’m then trying to play over the top. My question then is, is it possible to setup a sub output to be a bypass? What I mean is, can I pass the original guitar signal only through a sub out, without any of the loops going through that output. I’m trying to find a way of avoiding that compression. The alternative (that I’ve used before) is to run my mic and guitar into my mixer, then run an Aux Out to the RC pedal, and feed that back into the mixer. This allows me to blend the original mic and guitar sounds with RC loops. I’m just trying to avoid having to use the extra channel on the mixer and do the same thing on the RC.
Hello David. Have a look at your input and output settings as there is a noise suppressor and compressor on each channel both input and output. You might wanna turn the hose off and that will help you but you could keep the compressor on the vocals.
Thanks for all your videos. Maybe you can help. I’m trying to use track 1 as verse and track 2 as chorus in series mode. Track 3 I want to use as percussion that will go over both verse and chorus. For some reason it always gets out of sync. I’m sure I have a wrong setting on track 3 but I can’t figure out what it is. Any ideas.
Yes. It will be down to how you put each loop down. If you have track three set as multi and the other two set and single, that’s fine but you need to go into LOOP>REC and turn quantise on. That should be it, if not it’ll be down to loop sync. Let me know.
@@JohnPaulMusicUK thanks again. It ended up being loop sync on one of the tracks. One more question. Is there an easy way to assign a pedal to fade out everything?
Hi JP - thanks for all your videos. Very helpful. Question for you: my G2B (or transpose) FX is very muddy and sounds pretty bad for much of the work I am trying to do. I am not going for anything fancy, or fast, Just single note simple-ish bass lines. They sound very washy and inaccurate (and quite sh!t). Any help appreciated. Fender Strat (but have a humbucker guitar too, with the same results, and into guitar amps - Spark, Blues Jnr or an EV PA -all with the same results). Cheers.
Hey Brad. Sorry, I have only just seen this. Have you done the update? there is a mode 1 & 2 for G2B and one is certainly less muddy than the other. Also have a look at this - there is more than one way to get a 'Bass' Sound - ru-vid.com45CxFV2EPcE?feature=share
Thank for the long awaited vid JP. My question (1 of 2 cos I'm greedy!) Does undo reach back more than the last dub? IE - with a loop recorded and dubbed twice, will 2 undo's remove both overdubs? AND Q.2: After a loop is recorded featuring say a vocal and a guitar on one phrase - does the individual routing out still work on the playback? IE channel one = vocal and channel 2 = guitar. Thank you!
Hey 👋 1) undo is normal undo however there is a brand new feature called Mark Back which lets you dictate a point in time, then add more overdubs and then you can go back to that marker and multiple undos can take place. 2) yes the individual routing still applies - so if you record a vocal and guitar on the same loop, you can route the inputs and outputs to different places but I would recommend to do that in a mono state so you can split them. Stereo goes to one output. Hope that makes sense.
Welcome. Here is last nights live stream that was over 2hrs long answering questions. Enjoy!! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-x4b-vcPcrts.html
Looking forward to this series. My main question is are there more options to save parameters globally rather than on individual memories. Rc500 is a nightmare, constantly having to make my favourite settings for midi, routing etc on each memory. Cheers.
@@JohnPaulMusicUK Thanks. The live stream was great by the way. I suppose the best thing to do is create a few 'template' memories for your favourite settings, then save to a different location once they contain loops. Hopefully mines arriving tomorrow so I look forward to more of your vids!
Yes. You have 4 jacks and 2 xlr’s So you could mic up on the XLR, and then have the option of how you want to use the second XLR input and the 4 Mono jack (2 stereo) inputs. You could have the 2 keyboards in stereo and then the drum pad through the XLR (mic 2) or you could have one of the keyboards and drum pad in mono whilst the other keyboard is in stereo. Up to you. 👍🏻
Is there a way to send line level signal (or even instrument level signal) out the headphone jack (so u can use it as a 7th stereo output running to another speaker) ?
@@JohnPaulMusicUK right but can it send out anything louder than "headphone-level" audio signal when U do it? (cuz, unless the speaker has an "Aux-Level" input) u can't plug a headphone level cable into a regular instrument-level or line-level input +have it be audible through a speaker..) Might be cool if they update it to send out line-level or instrument-level signal like the other outputs. but it would be even cooler if they could just add a dimmer switch for those OBNOXIOUS lights..
I cant get my rc600 to record the sounds coming from my usb from mainstage . I have downloaded the drivers , set to vendor and usb loop in. I just cant get it to work . Its annoying me now. .Any help would be appreciated
Hi John, thanks a lot for the video, loved it! I have a question: Is it configurable to have 4 independent instruments plugged in if we set the 2 input as mono? Also, on a side note, have you noticed any improvement in the overall recording audio quality from the rc-300? Thanks! :)
Yes and yes. The inputs (and outputs) can be stereo or mono or a mixture. 👍🏻 And yes the looping at 32 float is a big difference when you have lots of loops and especially overdubs going on.. haven’t heard this thing distort and is incredibly clear. 👍🏻
Yes. Maybe… there are some awesome effect s for both your inputs and the track effects as well. There are some really nice tone effects taken from some of Boss’ pedals. Effects video coming…
Hi JP, I have a problem that has only been addressed by a few loopers, that's to do with utilising song form, some loopers are just one track, and piled overdubs, then you get the Octatrack that you can arrange a whole song, in parts with 8 individual tracks. The Aeros Looper allows you to partition as well, you have two modes, one where only 2 tracks and 6 parts, or 6 tracks. and 6 parts. This looper looks a bit like Loopy HD, Loopy HD has now been replaced by Loopy Pro of course... the Digitech Trio+ looper has parts, but they just provide piled overdub tracks for 5 parts. What I really want is the ability to play parts, can the Boss RC-600 play parts? could you for instance record 6 tracks, and then move to another 6 slots and the sets would be adjoined?
The only way to do this is to have the different parts pre-saved onto different memories and then move up and down the memories as it plays, which you can do. I have done this. I made a skeleton track for a covers song with he right bpm and rhythm and kit etc then copied that over to the memory next door. Then at home I recorded the bass lines that I needed with the drums on slightly different variations, one for the verse and one for the chorus. Then I could loop and play over the top of these with two dedicated buttons for mem up and me down. Downside - if you loop and then don’t save, you loose what you have recorded / overdubbed. Not ideal but a workaround.
Great video thanks !! (Question for future video) When u have it set up to play many tracks at once, and U hit "play" at some point 50% or more through the shortest recorded loop, can it be set up to NOT play the second you hit the button but rather to have it play at the end of the shortest loop that is currently playing? (the way a Boomering III phrase sampler can?) or are the only "play" options for it to either start playing (or fading in) the second u hit the play button? Similarly if U hit "record" on a new loop, when you're more than 50% of the way through the shortest loop that is currently playing,, is the only option for it to start recording on a new track the second you hit the record button? or can it be set up to wait to actually start recording until the end of the shortest (currently playing) loop? I'm guessing it's possible in "single" mode(which is of no interest), as I want to do this while many loops are playing simultaneously.. (I could not find this info in the owners manual for the RC600.) Thanks!!!
By default the looper is set to Auto for the record settings. Try changing it to free but with quantise still on. See it that does it? Also you can change the record settings to ‘LOOP END’ or even ‘MEASURE’ and that should take the first (base) loop track. 👍🏻
Hi, solo acoustic singer-songwriter here. I really look forward to this livestream! I appreciate your videos so much, they are very helpful! So, my ultimate question going into this is: Boss RC-600 or Headrush Looperboard? I'm seriously looking to purchase one of the two soon as a stand-alone replacement (with some ctrl switches/expression pedal, of course) for my Boss RC-500 and too many fx pedals (Wah, Trem, Delay, Reverb, Boost), including a TC Play Acoustic (used primarily for its boost, Rez, and vocal harmonies). I've researched the RC-600 and the Looperboard quite a bit thus far, but am still unclear as to whether either of these will allow me to be free of so much clutter and still have the quality functionality and sound of my individual pedals. Any insights from you would be most welcome. Thanks!
Hey 👋 So this is my goal also.. the holy grail of the singer songwriter looper. The ONE pedal that does it all! Hehe. The Headrush Looperboard has been my main board for a few years, replacing the RC-300. Will the RC-600 take the crown back? Well, you’ll have to wait and see. 👍🏻 Overview video out tomorrow (Friday) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qcetmuoWURM.html I LOVE my TC Play acoustic and it’s really hard for me to let that go. TC harmonies are still the best IMO.
Howdy! (Question #2 for a future video) Can MONO inputs be programmed to play out just ONE side of a designated "stero-link" output? OR would they HAVE to come out in "dual-mono"? (Yes as u demonstrated, I am aware that u can set the outputs to mono, +do it that way, but that's not what I want to do cuz i need to use the stereo output for another stereo input), Question is can a designated "stereo-link" output, still play Mono signals (coming from a mono input OR from a track loop) on only ONE side of the stereo output?? My hat's off to u if u can figure this one out lol thanks!
Hi. So a mono output with a stereo input. What you would have to do it pan the stereo input all the way to one side (so you don’t loose the right and left parts of the audio) and then you can feed in the stereo track, pan it in the RC600 and then send it out mono. No problem. 👍🏻
@@JohnPaulMusicUK Cool! (that's nice, I can use that sometimes) but that was not what I was asking. I want to know if a mono INPUT can be routed out only 1 side of a stereo output. [example, running XLR inputs in mono, +sending that mono INPUT to a stereo output. Can I still use the stereo effects to pan that mono input to one side? or does it lump the stereo outputs together and force you to use mono INPUTS in "dual-mono"? (I read in the manual somewhere that certain "stereo" effects.. like panning or panning-delay can only be used with "stereo link" enabled, but it did not say if the "stereo link" had to be applied at the input as well as the output, and also did not specify if a TRACK (recorded from a mono input) can still split up the mono signal (+use panning or panning delay) when sending that mono-input'd TRACK, to stereo outputs.. (sorry if this was long lol)
Salve. Grazie
Hello. On the first silver control knob on the left, you should see the word ‘memory’ on the bottom left of the screen. If you turn this it will go through the memories from 1-99. If you hold it down and turn it will go through the memories 10 at a time. Hope this helps.
