Boston Logan Airport - Departure in an A36 Bonanza - Patient Airlift Flight to Presque Isle, Maine

From clearance at Boston Logan, through Taxi and takeoff... then we time-warp to Presque Isle for the visual approach and ultimately the cancellation of IFR on the ground. Clear VFR day transporting a patient and her mother home from a medical appointment in Boston.
I tried to make this video informative for pilots (and enthusiasts) who haven't flown into Boston, but who might consider it if they knew what to expect.
I walk through getting clearance. Then the SID (standard Instrument departure), which in the case of an aircraft with prop(s) will be the Logan 4 departure. Then taxiing to the runway and the takeoff/departure.
From there we zip up to Presque Isle, Maine which is way up on the Canadian border. It's farther from Boston than New York City. In Presque Isle we perform a visual approach to runway 28 and then we cancel our IFR clearance once we are safely on the ground.
If you're thinking about flying into/out of Logan in a g.a. airplane, I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have.
Also for what it is worth, all fees are waived at Logan if you are performing a compassion flight, so you could arrive early and experience the city and/or get that Bravo airport experience with out the Bravo airport price. If you would like to know more about flying for PALS, reach out to me or go here:

Flying for PALS is one of the most gratifying things you can do with your pilot's license.
If you would like to see the flight into Logan, watch this video:

Me too. She has had lots of PALS flights to and from Boston for medical treatment. More than any kid should have. I was glad to have been able to make that flight fun and memorable for her.

What an awesome video. I'm heartbroken for the girl needing to go to and from Boston (several times as I indicated) for medical attention. 😢 You're a good man!!!!

I love the time-compressed flight up to PQI but I would also love to watch the full flight in real-time from the front camera. I'd love to identify all the landmarks on your trip up. Awesome job.

I was a PALS copilot for a bit but haven't done anything over the last couple years. If ya need a copilot, let me know. PP SEL 350 hours.

Will do. In weather that is less than perfect, it is always good to have a second set of eyes and ears in the cockpit.

Where is the run up area at KBOS?
@timetofly401
@timetofly401 2 месяца назад
On the FBO ramp typically. I'll let the line guys marshal me out of my spot and then go to a corner of the ramp that is not going to bother anyone with my prop-wash and then I'll do my run up there. I call for taxi after that. You will be expected to be ready when you get to the runway. You could let ground control know that you need a run up when you first call them. They would likely direct you to a spot out of their way someplace and then have you call back when the run up is complete. Some folks do it while waiting in line, but I prefer to get it done before I start to taxi.

Great video. Do you slot your run up in while you're holding in sequence?
@timetofly401
@timetofly401 2 месяца назад
Anytime I am at a Bravo airport (BOS, JFK, CLT, etc.), I will either do the run up on the FBO ramp (assuming the engine is warm enough) or while waiting in sequence. I actually prefer to do it on the FBO ramp, so that I'm able to really listen to what's going on during the taxi, especially if I'm single-pilot. You make a good point in bringing this up. The Tower is going to expect you to be ready to go when you get up to the runway.

@@timetofly401 Makes sense. I never know what the FBO run up etiquette is. By the way, these are GREAT videos - I'm based out of BED and these are awesome previews on what it's like to fly into BOS. Post more GA into bravo!
