Yes Yes! Jim Rice! No.14! One of the most feared hitters in the game. What a season in '78! Always loved how he handled the Boston sports press. A true sportsman & gentleman. Jim Ed all the way!
On this day in 1979 {September 12th} Carl Yastrzemski got his 3,000th career base hit, thus becoming the first player in the American League to have 3,000 career hits and 400 career home runs... In 1967 he won the Triple Crown {B.A. of .326, 44 homers, & 121 RBIs} and won the M.V.P. Award... {He was the Major Leagues last Triple Crown winner until last year when Miguel Cabrera of the Tigers accomplished it}... YAZ celebrated his 74th birthday one month ago on August 22nd...
Evans, underrated player. Average hitter, Hall of Fame, outfielder. Durable, more credit should be given to him for the defense, One of the best ever. Best arm, that I ever saw in a Red sox, uniform.
I have to say that, Papi , is the greatest Red sox player of alltime. This is based on his clutch hitting, leadership and the fact that he has been on 3, world championship teams. Other, Red sox players may have been better in the field but the results trump that.
1:45 is the catch that Yaz made at Yankee stadium in the 9th inning back in 1967 when Billy Rohr's 1st major league game and he had a no-hitter in the 9th inning. That was the call that Kenny Coleman Red Sox announcer made famous on the "Impossable Dream Album". Elston Howard Yankee catcher broke up the no-no with 2 outs in the 9th inning. Howard later in the season was traded to the Red Sox.
Good God Girl, I'm a Dodgers fan (almost sounds like a STrek McCoy line)! Lolzzz, it's OK, my Dad's a Red Sox fan & I love the music. You have a new sub;-)
I love the video, but Manny Ramirez did way more positive things for Boston than negatives, deserves to be put in the video and spoken highly around Boston.
Okay, so Freddy Lynn made the most sparkling catch. I think it was somewhere between 85-87. He robbed a guy of a home run but came down off the wall very nonchalant. Then he calmly popped the ball out of his glove and threw it in as if it were a routine play. The batter cussed him out while rounding the bags. Does anyone have a copy of this??? Or even remember it?
While I don't deny Ramirez' contributions -- sorry; on a "Manny Being Manny" level, I just cannot stomach him -- or Clemens for that matter. Thank you for viewing.
Ummm..hello?? Where's the greatest first-sacker in Red Sox and, arguably, MLB history..?? I'm referring of course to the great #18, Carlos "The Q" Quintana! Don't believe me? Check out The Q's stats from 1989-90 and then get back to me. Travesty The Q's not in Cooperstown.
