Many years ago when I was a young man, I had the opportunity to crew on a 52 ft motor yacht being taken from Northport NY to some place in Florida. It would have taken about two weeks. I was denied permission by those I needed to get permission from to do it. When I bought my 25 foot, single engine and 8 ft wide beam cruiser, I thought it too small to do that trip. I was especially concerned with the running out in the ocean from New York Harbor to the Barnegat Inlet, then negotiating the inlet turbulence to get back inside. I figured the minimum vessel I would use for that would be maybe 28 feet long by 10 ft wide with twin engines. Less tipsiness and a back up engine.
