The São João Baptista (better known by the nickname Botafogo) was a galleon in the service of the Portuguese Navy, from 1534 to 1551. In its time, it was the largest and most powerful warship in the world.
Botafogo went viral in the naval community at the time, after the famous conquest of Tunis, in present-day Tunisia, when it was commanded by the Portuguese, Infante D. Luís against the famous Turkish privateer “Heredim Barba-Roxa”, due to the maneuver with which he broke the defenses of the port of La Goulette. In this video we will get to know this colossus of the seas and its firepower, going through the events of that day, also discovering the relationship between its nickname Botafogo, with the Brazilian neighborhood of the same name, Cidade Maravilhosa, and its club, Botafogo de Futebol and Regatas…, from Rio de Janeiro, of course.
