This unit was mainly hands on, but we did refer to a number of books for content to build our unit, or for artistic inspiration or for project ideas. Some activities we got to, and others we just didn't find the time or inspiration to do. But hey, by the end of the year (and really summer), it's hard to push through academics when the weather is begging you to come outside and the pool is cool and refreshing and the beach is just beckoning you. So, while I wished we'd completed just a few more lessons, we did pretty good with this unit, especially with all the outside work that we did in the garden.
At this point, I'm going to punch holes in the lesson we did do and add them to the main lesson book we started last year. And when we get around to those last remaining lessons, well then, we can add those to this 'family' main lesson book at that point.
Here's how we put together this unit:

Know what you mean about the repetition, its good when the kids are very young but soon gets tiresome. Great video, well reviewed. Thank you!

Yeah, they love it, and if they know the book, you can't even make changes!

Hi Hana! I was reading about Waldorf education and came across your channel, which is amazing. I also came across a lot of allegations of racism in the Waldorf philosophy. Do you have an opinion about that? And sorry if you already covered this subject! If you did, could please tell me in what video? Thanks.

That's a good question. While I do follow a Waldorf philosophy, I avoid the Steiner philosophy because I don't agree with a lot of it and find it contradictory to my own beliefs. I can't fully answer this question because I just don't know enough, but I have heard the same things. I'll ask someone who knows more.

Ah the booklist! Yes! I keep thinking the summer will be a time to plan and do all the things I didn't have time to do in the year, but it's even busier!

that book is supposed to be read as a song, there's a tune, that's why it repeats like that

A quick question about Live Education: does it give book suggestions for the blocks?
@PepperandPine
@PepperandPine 6 лет назад
Nope, only a few resources are suggested with each unit.

Assalamulaikum I was wondering do you feel your children retain more information studying same topic for a few weeks rather than doing history science geography every week JzkAllah

Wa'alaykum Asalam Khadija, that's a good question. I am not sure I can answer it though. Children forget a lot, so that's natural. But they also remember, too. If the information is tied to activities and hands on learning, I feel they'll remember more easily. Focusing for several weeks allows us the focus to do those activities. There are daily lessons that are done with the main lesson as well.

I was thinking to do math and language arts daily and then just do science history and geog as unit studies throughout the yr. I really like how Waldorf lessons are presented and I would like to present my unit studies like this but just at bit stuck where to begin as I am so used to thinking multiple subjects should be done all week x
