Both of these FOAM R/C planes are the Pitts! Electric FMS Pitts V2 & the Byron Pitts with NITRO. 

Correction: It's Mike Smith, not Mark Smith. The Byron foam Pitts was 1/3 scale and the FMS V2 Pitts is closer to 1/4 size, which is a great size to fly. Memories. Happy birthday. I was working at Smith Brothers Hobby Center in LA when the Byron Pitt's came out. I built a few for customers, and the Byron P-51 too. The Byro-drive was different and innovative.

What a great recap from when I started in the 70's. I drooled over that Kraft Signature model but as a teenager my budget was only able to afford the KP-4A. Between Kraft, Pro-line, MRC, Orbit, Ace and Heathkit kits, choosing a radio was always fun. Today you can buy a similar 4 channel radio for the price of a Kraft KP-15 servo in 1976. Thanks for the flashback.

Hi Dave, the locking clips on the battery tray are weak after a few bat changes can allow the bat to slide down the fus, I simply cut 2 slots either side of the fus and push a lolly stick in so it’s across the back of the battery & it solves the problem, + you have an excuse to eat a lolly!

Honestly If I could have one of your planes... It would be the Byron Pitts... It basically was one of your planes that got me loving RC, saw a video of it back in 2008 maybe... I forgot I was in elementary school back then... Had good laughs when you guys went hunting for it in the corn field...

Very nice airplane indeed! I’ll just bet that you’re going to replace those tires. 😂 It doesn’t have the “throaty” sound that the nitro motor had, but it flies great and looks like lots of fun to fly. No build would be complete without an Adam’s Polishes decal! The ones on my truck have been there since 2017 and they STILL look great. Happy 75th Birthday! It’s a milestone so congratulations on that. Hope you had a great day celebrating. Semper Fi sir. 👍

Happy Birthday sir! Check out 'Model AV8R' video on the fms pitts! His battery tray mod has saved my fms pitts many times!

I had the V2 and because I reintroduced the flying wires FMS removed in V2 it was a pain to assemble at the field because it wouldn’t fit in the car assembled.. so I sadly sold it but just yesterday I acquired a V1 which I know had a few issues which they corrected in V2, but it comes in a modified South African full size colour scheme actually flown by a friend of mine for Gabriel Wings aerobatic team, that exact tail number in fact, and I figure having owned V2 I can make the necessary improvements on V1 to keep her flying for years to come, this one I won’t sell. I would like to eventually cover it in a striking green or yellow Pitt’s scheme but for now she looks great with the FMS decals replaced by the scale Gabriel logos. A plus on V1 is a regular hook and loop strapped battery bay but a negative is long sloppy pushrods to the elevator and rudder and less effective servos - all of which I will address. Happy landings

l agree with you l have been flying rc for 50 years now flown alot of bipes pitts,Aeromaster,gee bee dreamers and the list goes on and l dont need a gyro to fly a bipe ,its takes the fun out of it and having fun is the whole point.And in fact l dont need a gyro for any of my planes

And people ask why I don’t like horizon hobby I think it’s pretty clear with this video they care more about your money and not your experience lol 9:19😡
