🌅 Waking up at North Gate, we embraced the dawn with an early start on our adventure-packed journey.
🚗 Our destination? Moremi’s Dead Tree Island, a spot that promised wild wonders. Leaving the caravan at North Gate's entrance, we embarked on a game drive through the ever-changing landscapes. With the guidance of Tracks4Africa, we navigated the shifting terrains, adapting to seasonal flooding. The journey kicked off at a leisurely pace, until a sky full of vultures hinted at a grand feast below - hyenas relishing an early breakfast. 🦅🌿 #ontheroadagain #Nature'sBounty
🌊 As we ventured deeper, the scenery morphed from lush Mopani woodlands to expansive open plains. The delta's waters were on the move, claiming roads in their path. Even the path to Dead Tree Island wasn't spared. An intrepid attempt led to unexpected destinations - first a vanishing road, then a rendezvous with the notorious Hippo Pool. Time ticked, and the call to return grew stronger, for our final destination awaited: the Khwai Safari Grounds. 🏞️🚐 #DeltaWaters #UnchartedPaths
🦁 But fate had more in store. A moment's decision, a left turn taken, and the savannah unveiled its royalty - a magnificent pride of eight lions, including adorable cubs. The excitement surged as we watched them lounging in their majestic splendor. 🌌 Evening cast its enchantment as we settled into Khwai Safari Grounds, a riverside haven. Nico and Ilze stepped up to the culinary stage, treating us to Nico's legendary braai skills with succulent chicken. August 10, 2023 - Unexpected recovery - 🚙
What a day it's been on the road to recovery and endless discovery. ☕️⏰
We kicked off our morning bright and early with a cup of coffee, packing up camp, and hitting the road at the crack of dawn (7 AM, to be exact). But what's an adventure without a few unexpected twists, right? 🛤️
Our crew made a spontaneous decision to skip the cozy comforts of Camelthorn Lodge and head straight for the mesmerizing Pans. Why wait when you can dive right into the heart of nature's beauty? Camelthorn, you're on our radar for the next escapade! 🌳🏨
A full day of driving lay ahead, with the landscape unfolding like a canvas before us. A Quick pit stop at Rileys Garage in Maun for some fuel, water refills, and a stock-up, and we were back on the road, cruising through the captivating Makgadikgadi Pans National Park. The wildlife greeted us with a spectacular show - elephants, giraffes, and antelope, oh my! 🐘🦒🦌
Our entry into the Nata Pans was nothing short of magical. Drones soared high, unveiling a panorama that words can't quite capture. The raw beauty of Botswana stood before us, and we were spellbound. 🚁🌅
Hold onto your hats, folks, because the next chapter was a true test of teamwork and determination. Picture this: a Land Cruiser and an FJ Cruiser with a caravan, stuck smack dab in the middle of the "wet" area. We couldn't just drive on by - no way! We're Affipadaf, after all, and lending a hand is in our DNA. 🤝
Chantelle took the reins of the Amarok, and what a sight it was! The Land Cruiser was free in no time, all thanks to the trusty Tungsten Winch. The FJ Cruiser and Caravan, though? A trickier puzzle. SJ and the Cruiser, led by none other than Michelle (girl power, anyone?), pulled off a stunning three-way recovery. Meanwhile, the guys embraced the mud and jumped into action, working their magic. 🚗💨💪
Bit by bit, we conquered the muck and managed to rescue those vehicles from their muddy clutches. A solid hour of sweat and determination later, all wheels were back on dry land, heading toward the festival area. 💃🕺
Now, here's where things get interesting - a strategic stop to outsmart the wind and dust. We found the perfect spot, wind at our backs, and dust dancing away from us. The universe must've known we deserved a sweet ending to this epic day. 😎🌬️
The grand finale? A mouthwatering dinner whipped up by the culinary dream team, Nico and Ilze. Braai-Broodjies and Steak to satisfy every craving. With full hearts and satisfied taste buds, we're on the edge of our seats, eagerly awaiting the show that tomorrow promises.
