There are cattle ranchers and cattle owners, there are land owners and land care takers, they differ in how they feel about the ranch and the cattle under their care and the land under their care. You my friend are a cattle rancher in ever sense of the word.

I must add this was in Virginia, with only a dozen cows on 40 acres in a rainy summer.. they couldn't eat fast enough and we actually had to bale the pasture they were in...

Good Morning Mike, Erin & girls, Watching this video brought back some really good memories and some memories I rather forget...(ie cleaning corals & stalls)....lol Here is something you might think of as funny in away, you spoke about never getting rid of things on the ranch. Well I worked for my uncle on his farm back in middle school & all through high school & since I am considerably taller than the average person my uncle got me my own shovel and pitch fork with longer handles than normal so using them didn't hurt my back. (As much)😉 I am now in my mid 50's and years ago at the county fair someone walked off with my pitchfork and I never replaced it. But I still own and use that shovel after 40+ years. With a couple coats of linseed oil every year on the handle to kept it from drying out and it still gets the job done, except now I use it cleaning up wet snow from the driveway instead of the wet stuff that comes out of the Southend of a North bound cow or horse...lol Great video thanks for the blast from the past!😁

Oh yes, they will play around, especially as Mike says, for food. You would be surprised. We had a bull and a steer that were both like puppy dogs. They each had their own ways. The bull would sneak up behind you when you feeding and "nudge" you. Of course his nudge could send you flying over the hay but he would stand there like "What? Now come scratch me." The steer was similar but it was always "come scratch me" time with him.

We raise 12 to 15 bottle calves a year. Other ranchers in the area do not want to fool with them. It is another stack of dollars we get. We are here taking care of our own calves, helping a few more live is no big deal. Thank you Robert Shufflebotham

When we use to have bottle calves, I tried to get them to drink out of buckets ASAP. Just have the calf suck your finger and dip it into the bucket of milk replacer. With in two or three feedings and the calves will know how to drink out of the bucket. I would hang the bucket about 2 or 3 inches off from the ground with a carabiner. I would have to spread the buckets about 3 or more feet apart because one calf will finish before the other ones and push the slow one out of their bucket. I can see you having this problem with all the bottles so close together, but best of luck. Love the channel and and a highlight of my week when you post a new video!

I just wanted to thank you for these video series. Our 4 year old daughter Peg loves them, although she is now telling me we need to come buy a calf from you (head-desk repeat), which I now am trying explain to her the distance between our upstate NY farm with beef and other livestock, and your Wyoming ranch. But she'll sit and watch your videos for hours, which is a huge improvement over the cartoons that make my head throb. So thanks for taking the time to put these together!

Very impressive set up. Obviously, your knowledge and hard work contributes to success. Thank you for sharing your work, love and caring of all the animals and family on ...your Wyoming Life.

Cool video Mike.Have you ever considered getting a jersey or Holstein that has lost a calf and putting her in a stantion with hobvles for them to nurse till she gets used to them, I have seen one Holstein take 5 calves, I only have one of my calves on my jersey but she is a small cow. I noticed that my nurse calves are much stronger and less stunted than bucket calves. I sure love y'all's videos.Keep them coming!

They have too much milk for two calves , better mothers are Angus or Hereford Holstein cross. Rear big calves , more milk than plain beef breads. Dairy shorthorns are the best mothers , low dairy producers but can feed calves good. My father had a shorthorn he retired from the dairy and lived her days out producing the biggest Hereford cross calve . Sold for top price to butchers when weaned at 8 months old.

Hi Mike! Well the Title reads "Happiness is a Full Bottle." So I was wondering if the winter was extra bad and you went for the Jack Daniels :) That was a clever solution to accommodate 4 bottle calves. You are the MacGyver of Cowboys. Thanks Terry, no running for the bottle yet for me. Calfnapper! Lol, Great job, on a ranch or farm animals are top priority behind family. Would like to know how the feeder has held up. That was a great idea and build👍 I'm pretty much all hat and no cattle these days, but I actually miss them. My 12 year old self would have never believed that I would, especially while chopping a hole in the ice in our spring fed water cistern before school so the cows and horses had water in winter. Really liking the vids 🤠👍

I cant say enough good things about your channel, your content is very interesting, easy to follow and understand and presented in a professional but personable manner. Thanks for sharing your story, by the way, I think I saw a Super Duty in a couple of shots, how do you like it? Thanks again, I will be looking out for your videos from our little slice of heaven in old school New England.

Don't they have buckets with several nipples in the US? Here in Belgium all farmers use those with one or more nipples (depending on the amount of calves)

Hmm, I'm not sure if I have ever seen them. Thanks though, I look around - Mike

Our Wyoming Life www.fanevalleystores.com/product/150554/calf-suckling-feeder-bucket-with-teat-8-ltr like this. I thought there were ones with several nipples on one bucket but those are for lambs. But the thing you built definitely works so maybe it's not worth it.

Our Wyoming Life Mike, here is a link to a a 5 nipple multi feeder with plugs available for holes you don't use. www.enasco.com/p/Peach-Teat%E2%84%A2-5-Teat-Calf-Feeder---8-Gallon-Capacity%2BC28042N?siteName=Nasco&styleView=gridStyle&searchPath=All+Products%2F%2F%2F%2FNasco&pageTitle=Search+C28042N+%7C+Nasco My husband would build a feeder from a 5 gallon bucket that he would hang from the ceiling in the barn. The previous comment on this thread has a great link to many styles of feeders for ideas and nipples that can be used to build your own feeder if you don't want to buy one.

If you think back to the days of no electricity, no tractors...what would you say the 3 most important things were that made raising cattle possible? I would say: Family, other farmers, a sawmill.

Mike what an awesome video I really enjoyed this one and so did my wife How is #59 doing? I thought you had a great idea on the bottle holder or feeder whatever you want to call it is it still working well? If only you had an automatic mixer and filler machine for the bottles. LOL I can not believe the number of twins you have had this year I wonder if they could all be from the same bull. LOL Have a great day and week. Will talk to you soon. God Bless!!!

#59 is doing great, he spent last night out with the calves and this morning he ate two bottles so hopefully hes getting some strength back. The bottle holder worked well this morning too. All four of them lined up at it. Thank you Sir - Mike
