Today's goal was a Ling Cod for dinner! We had consistent bites trolling paddle tails while working the pinnacles. We had better success at attracting bigger Lings by way of jigging.

Poor catch and release technique. Instead of sending the fish airborne back into the water, try placing it carefully over the side of the boat and don't let it go until it has revived and wants to swim away.

Ocean is different... a nose dive is the preffered way... these fish have spikes and toxins. You wouldn't want those pricking you and ruin your day. Lakes and rivers, yes I completely agree with you. Aswell waves are a major hazard.. one bad wake or swell and your in the salt chuck... ocean boats also have high free boards... not ideal to touch water with freeboard so high... @@bbtvfishingismyhappyplace I was referring to the the salmon caught. The more you handle them, the less their chances of survival. If they're a wild fish or undersize I bring them up beside the boat and remove the hook without even taking them out of the water.

I've tried that with great difficulty... we run hoochies with stingers and find it faster to get them in the water by taking them out on the boat. I've often thought maybe I should start rigging my hoochies with a single siwash hook to be released off the side of the boat with ease with a flick of a gaff hook. Thanks for the feedback. I'll try to get better at it. Otherwise hope you enjoyed the video.

@@bbtvfishingismyhappyplace yes, single hook is way better for hoochies. I use a single 4/0 open eye hook that I crimp onto a stainless swivel. Tie the leader to the swivel and put on a few glow beads, then the hoochie. It's way easier to release the fish and less damage without two hooks. I think you still catch just as many fish.
