Bought a 2000 Honda Goldwing GL1500 SE today! - Intro and passenger compartment removal 

Oh man. My dad had a Goldwing back in the day. I always loved riding on the back of it. It's been 20+ years since he got rid of it.

There are a lot of great motorcycles and NONE any better than the gl1500 Goldwing.

Just purchased an identical GL1500 here in the U.K. It’s the SE model with only 12,000 miles on the odometer. It is the same colour as your bike, first registered here in the U.K. in 2000. I have decided to change both the cam belts as I have no idea when they were last changed. Been told to use the Gates belts as they are just as reliable as the original Honda ones, but a bit cheaper. Will be undertaking a few sensible modifications to the bike, first thing will be to fit the Pathfinder Led headlight bulb conversion. Just ordered these from Wingstuff in the US. I have been experimenting with fitting a Sena SM10 Bluetooth transmitter and connected it to the bikes 5pin Din socket. This will then communicate to the Sena unit fitted in my Shoei Neotec helmet. Tried a temporary connection to prove out the concept and much to my surprise it worked perfectly. Won’t ride the bike until spring arrives here in the U.K., but looking forward to putting a few miles on the old girl. Ride safe sir.

Nice job buddy. The GL1500 is my favorite generation Gold Wing. I haven't owne one - - yet. I've been riding and wrenching on bikes for 50 years. When my boys were 16 and 17, I bought a couple old Honda basket cases and showed them how to get them running. I inherited my father-in-laws CL200 that has had a seized motor since 1981. That's this winter's project. When I'm done with that, who knows maybe I'll find an old Wing to work on. Good luck and ride safe.

Just make sure you know when the timing belts were replaced. If they have never been changed, they are ticking time bomb. If they break, the pistons will slam into the valves. Belts are $50.00 a side. Cheap compared to having to replace or rebuild the engine.

I'm a PC/IT man as well when I bought my 99' GL1500 SE in 2018 but after watching a lot of RU-vid University, trial and error. I have taken my bike more than halfway apart twice now and and made all kinds of modifications, upgrades, and repairs unassisted and assisted. You can do more than what you think you can!

These Monster 2 wheeled "Armchairs" were "Made for "America" where the roads are straight and wide. Pretty much like their cars from the 50's thru 70's. Too Big, too Wide, and could not do corners very well. But, having said that, I loved the style of those old Yank Tanks.

Congratulations on your new bike …. Learn how to replace the air filter because half the bike comes apart and if you need to take it to a mechanic is expensive to replace a 35.00 filter , i can’t believe Honda did not do it easier on an expensive bike, good luck
