Bought a Dooney & Bourke bag that I don't like! D&B Florentine Satchel 

To each its own. I hadn’t bought a Dooney and Bourke since the early 2000’s because I ended up becoming a big coach fan. Then comes 2019 and a coworker reawakened my love for them. Started watching RU-vid videos and came across the pecantan beauty’s page, and she opened my eyes to the bag you’re showing in this video; the Florentine satchel. I bought one, and it was love at first sight. Now, as of today I’ve lost count of how man I own in that style. I have that style in so many different colors. It’s a staple style in my collection. Another style I really like from them is their Barlow style, and Clayton’s. Just remember, if you ever buy anymore from them, Florentine leather is heavy, and Dooney doesn’t skimp on the quality of their leather. They’ve had a price hike over the years, but their quality of leather is worth every penny

Dooney and Bourke is an iconic American brand, designed by Peter Dooney. The red satchel is possibly the most loved and collected of all D&B handbags. It is worn by folding the top over, to create the famous Dooney "smile." Even though it's not a current fad item, it's still very popular. I think you will regret giving it up.

No Mary, the difference of price depends on the kind of leather and on the size... That model exists in 4 sizes and 2 different leathers... Florentine (that you have) and pebbled leather (as the camera bag) the price sometimes differs also depending on the colour 😅 yes I'm a bit nerd about Dooney since I have a "few" in my collection 🙈🤷🏼‍♀️ But that price for that bag (even in Germany) it's a gift, not a buy 😂😂😂

I think both bags are timeless. BUT, if you are sensitive to heavy bags the Florentine Satchel would not be a good option. A lot of people have a love/hate relationship with that bag due to the beauty and craftsmanship vs. the weight and lack of exterior pockets. It is much nicer after you use it for a while and it softens up and gets that slouchy look and zipper smile. The smaller versions look less "old lady" ish and are not quite as heavy. But good leather will weigh a bit more.

If you (or your mom) are not interested to have it, I would be 😁 don't know how you stumble on these bags on the flea market, I feel like these are so hard to get by in Europe!

I love the Florentino line but not this bag specifically but I do like the hobo bags and the tote bags as a guy I would like this bag without the tassel but I'm not the type of person that would separate a satchel from it's tassels

I think it looks ok when carried in the crook of arm when to top part ”sloutches”; I hope this explanation makes sense 😂 but if it’s not for you then gifting is always a good option! I mean who doesn’t like to receive handbags as gifts! 😂

Are Dooney and Bourke bags sold anywhere in Europe❓ Does anyone know ❓ I'm in Europe and I have a collection of them, but my bags are bought from their eBay Store (in the US) and also directly from the DB website (in the US). Bags in flee markets may have come to Europe in the same way as mine... Or that people have bought them when they have visited the US... I love the silhouette of the red bag this lady shows ! ♥️♥️♥️ It comes in many sizes and many colors. There is something nostalgic about it, but also something classic... 👍 Pluss in Europe you stand out when you wear DB, they will be seen as "special" bags from a brand that almost noone else has, and I like that... 😉🤣

I have this satchel & I love the silhouette & the pleats on the sides. I removed the tassels on mine to update it & I love it!❤I'm sure either you or your mom will enjoy this bag.😍🌻

I’m an “older lady in my 60’s” and my daughter never gifts me bags 😂 I have two of these, the 13” which I think is what you have - one in a very beautifully patina’d Chestnut, and the other in Natural. I LOVE them! I love the way they look (again, in my 60’s) and the Florentine leather is stunning

I grew up wanting D&B. It was a very prestigious brand in 80's and early 90's. So prestigious that fakes were made. I bought their original Duck bag in 1991/1992. It was the only one I could save up for. I still have it and the leather is amazing. I don't love all D&B styles and same for every contemporary and luxury brands. They are made for different people, styles and lifestyles, so it's ok to not something that doesn't fit your style or lifestyle. It's ok to not like the brand as a whole. I don't think people would care. I love Coach and someone I know would not even consider Coach to be in her wardrobe. I'm not offended by it. I feel like she could be missing out the beauty I find in Coach. It's just personal preference, so why would anyone be offended? You don't have to like my bag and I don't have to like yours. We buy what we buy because we love it and not because someone else loves it. It is tempting when there's a good deal and value. What an amazing find for that price! I don't love the style as well, but it would be nice to resell it to someone in that D&B community for an amazing price. Or give it away to a follower who wants a chance to win it. Or donate it to a charity that can raffle it off for a good cause. No point forcing to keep something when you don't love it other than the price itself. Let someone else who will enjoy it way more to love and cherish it.

I personally do like the DB Florentine Satchel, but would not get this big of a size. I have the nano which is quite small and cute and perhaps a bit more youthful. 😊

I had D&B bags some years back and I regret donating them. I was into handbags then but would only keep and wear one or two at a time. I also was not aware of quality. Now only have one crossbody that I will keep in my collection. Anyhow that's a pretty bag. I would keep.

Dooney & Burke had its heyday in the 90s, I think...Good quality bags and they had lots of quirky prints, some of which were reminiscent of the LV multicolor monogram...I like the red color, but there's a lot going on with the tassels, the opening flap top...if you're not in love with it, gift it to your mom. Just because it's a great price doesn't mean it's for you! : )

I’m a D&B fan, and I’m with you - I don’t care for it either, hehe! I started my designer bag journey with D&B, I own some of their bags, and I’ve owned this bag specifically. I disliked it so much, I gave it to my Mom because I didn’t want it to sit in my closet. As you mention, it’s very high quality and well made, so no issue there. Ultimately, I did not like the style of bag and it’s just got too much going on. If they had left the tassels off, it might have been better. I don’t know as though my Mom kept it either, come to think of it! 😂❤

Hi, this satchel reminds me the Chloe bags (which I never owned), too much leather (strings, tassels) and too much hardware; the satchel/tote style I prefer Is the one of The Row 😛, so minimal, which I will never own of course 😐. If something does not make you smile but you are trying to find reasons to love It maybe It Is not right for you 🫤, bye 😍

Loved your video. I own approximately 60 Dooney & Bourke bags. At least 5 in this same style. However they are smaller. You may like this style in a smaller bag like the Nano or Micro. What I was amazed at was the price you paid. Depending on size and wear these bags usually go for $150-$450 even preloved here in the US. I had one like this in the mini size which is 11 inches across the bottom. I sold it and regretted it terribly. The red was more cherry red than brick red. Then about a year later I found one in a smaller size. I will say I am now in my 60's so some Dooney bags may be for us older gals. LOL We all have our own personal taste. I have 3 grown daughters ranging from 30-45 and none of them care for most of my bags. So its ok that you don't care for this bag. Thats just more for us older gals. :-) Thank you for the video. 😃

I wasn’t crazy about this style at first, but when you modeled it crossbody it looked so cute on you! Give it a chance and use it a bit. You can always sell/gift it later whenever you’re ready. ❤

I love the red bag. But you need to train the top to flip over. I would buy it from you. I have a tiny one and I use a thick rubber band to train it.

More great flea market finds for a fabulous price! I actually like both bags. I wonder if the red one comes in a mini size.

I love your video about the satchel. Honest and raw. I too once felt that way about the satchel but once I got a pretty color and carried it a number of times it grew on me and now I have 3. I encourage you to give it a carry or two or three and then let us know how it worked out for you.

I bough the nano size ( smallest size available) of your red bag in the Bordeaux color. I love it. I want it in navy too. I think bigger bags in general look like they’re for older women, and a design can emphasize that. This is one of those designs. But it’s real cute in smaller sizes.

It definitely looks out dated. Like back to early 2000s. Especially this red. With the buckles. But if you know dooneys and can appreciate the brand, you can style it as “classic” “retro” looking fashion. I wouldn’t try to style it with current 2024 outfits. Wear it when you were your “cow girl, barn yard” attire. That’s my plan. Keep it tho. It will be back in style at some point.

I love the Florentine satchel, but I can see how some would find the silhouette a bit dated. To me it says classic. But I think that bag is too heavy and I prefer it in the micro size. The micro is perfect and the smaller silhouette gives a more youthful vibe IMO and it looks super cute as a crossbody. I have 2 micros and I adore them. But that satchel comes in numerous sizes which is why the prices vary. Find your size and you might change your mind. Yours looks like the mini. There are two sizes smaller than that one.
