A few friends and myself all chipped in and bought this beautifully restored (Lindy Winner!!) 1939 Aeronca Chief. Can never have enough two seat, non electric, 65HP Yellow planes, lol. Will have a lot more flying videos up soon after it gets back in Annual and Airworthy later this week. Stay Tuned, big things to come for this little plane!

We get "cheesy" about our 1947 Aeronca ALL THE TIME. The lines, that vintage smell, the "potato-potato" sound of a C-85 with straight pipes at idle and the fact that 75 years of pilots have cared for and been cared by this 800 pounds of alloy steel, iron, aluminum and wood & fabric. The best part is we don't abuse her but we fly it hard in the PNW and it loves it.

You nailed the essence about what makes these special. Even the smell of them is a draw. Love the pants. Had them on our Champ. Really classes it up. Great acquisition!

My family owns a 1950 Aeronca 15AC. I get the privilege of caring for and flying it. Old taildraggers are awesome! Pure stick and rudder flying. The newest aircraft I've ever flown is a 1966 C172G.

Those wheel pants look real classy. I put mine one for one XC then took them off because it makes checking tires and breaks a pain.

Love your philosophy on these older planes---- couldn't agree more !! Glad that Aeronca Chief has you as its new owner, be careful and don't get that nice ole J-3 jealous of your time with the Chief---😀 Hey I am having to transition to eye glasses ( at 67 ) and I think the tach on that Chief is perfect ---ha !!!

Beautiful plane Joe. I note the wing is so much like the cub in shape and almost no dihedral. What engine did they use?

Will you do any flying from the right seat for shits and giggles? I have flown my kitfox from the right seat a few times, but like the Chief, I don't have brakes on the right side.
@Bananasssssssss

Yeah, from a Grass Strip I Will, don't need brakes there, lol

Considering that you're a CFI, any chance you'll be doing a 'Teaching Mrs. C to fly' video series? OTOH, if it's a worlds colliding sort of thing, I understand. ;-)

What’s up with that exhaust? 65 hp continental? What is the empty weight?
@Bananasssssssss
@Bananasssssssss 6 месяцев назад
The Motor just has a different exhaust manifold layout so it's routed different. I'll get the empty weight for ya
