BOUNCING BACK AFTER PREGNANCY IS NOT 'GOALS'

How many influencers and celebrities have you seen who 'bounced back'... like a day after giving birth? I know i've seen SO many influencers on Instagram who make sure that in every picture they post with their new baby, you can see just how tiny and flat their stomach is. But it's like... why tho? In my humble opinion, bouncing back or having a flat stomach soon after giving birth is not a goal. It's not an achievement and its not something to be admired.
Yes, it's totally normal for a lot of women to snap back into the shape they were pre-pregnancy, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that! However for a lot women, that ISN'T their reality, and no matter how hard they try, their body never looks the same again. Treating bouncing back or having a flat stomach soon after giving birth as a goal or something to be admired, can lead the women who DIDN'T bounce back, to feel like there's something wrong with them, or that their body failed them. When in fact, there is no one way for a woman to look after pregnancy. Some regain their pre-pregnancy figure almost immediately, and others don't. The problem for the ones that don't, is that society and social media make out that there's something wrong with that - when there isn't.
There's nothing wrong with having children, and your body LOOKING like you've had children. No matter what you look like after having your kiddos, know that you are PERFECT.
I love you!
Remember, nourish yourself and love yourself. You deserve to feel amazing.
xx

I just carried baby I didn’t over indulge etc and within 3 weeks my tummy was flat and now I’m feeling like I can’t be happy about it . Influencers annoy me there one fitness girl who let her self go during pregnancy and promotes it ok it ok now she struggling from doing so and now saying that’s ok to , it’s like go away . @@TheMonkiBrothers that’s the point!!! Everyone is different and postpartum will be different in each of them. And that’s ok! It’s normal!! We have to normalize it!! It’s perfect to snap back too!! But it’s also normal to need so much more time to get there. And some times they will never get there again. The most important is to be HEALTHY AND TAKE CARE ABOUT THEIR SELF.

No-one's saying you can't feel good about it, she's saying that it shouldn't be treated as a Zero Sum situation where if you're a woman who doesn't snap back, the message is that you've failed. Stephanie's point is that making anything about birth recovery into a competitive or prestige environment is deeply unwise, & something which can further damage women in an already incredibly vulnerable time. She's just campaigning for a more realistic representation of the spread of experiences, that's all. If you snapped back, you _know_ you did good. You don't need more affirmation, from this one video. But women who couldn't or can't _do_ need recognition & validation, for their more common but less represented experience.

I’m a postpartum personal trainer and I help my clients focus on getting their strength back because of the symptoms that can develop after pregnancy such as diastasis recti, organ prolapses, pelvic floor dysfunctions, back pain, shoulder pain, neck pain, incontinence etc. That is important and we should talk more about that, the reality of what happens, not to be ashamed and find resources. Pelvic floor therapist should be in every hospital just like lactation consultants. By the way getting back into shape doesn’t mean get back to the gym as soon as possible!!! Let your body heal, let the uterus and internal organs go back to normal which is about 6 weeks and enjoy bonding with your baby ❤️

This actually made me burst into tears hearing women speak about their bodies that way. I have an 8yr old. I had her in my first year of college. So young. I thought i bounced back immediately after giving birth (like my stomach dropped and deflated immediately that it was COMMENTED ON BY THE STAFF AND MY EX) due to my age. But all this pressure to keep a “Normal” postpartum body has been stressing me out and im actually terrified to get pregnant again!!! Im terrified and its all thanks to society and the pressure BOTH MEN AND WOMEN PUT ON US! Men are the worst tho not gonna lie! All my life ive heard guys talk sh!t about how they women’s pu$$y is gross and never the same after giving birth, how nasty their bodies are and how after their girl gives them their kids they want to trade her for a better model. The make comments about leaving their partner if they dont look good post-baby and work on their appearance. Meanwhile, there is something that only ELECTIVE SURGERY can fix- i dont see him saying he’ll work 3 jobs to pay for those elective surgeries to help her out IF she choses to have things “put back like before”. The comments made me cry 💔💔💔. I have body dysmorphia so im unaware of what i look like and can only go by comments from ppl. I cant figure out my own facial features if u paid me. I also know the comments i have said about my body- when i feel bloated or tired. Its hard disease to explain but my internal feelings make me see something else in the mirror (i think). So the whole “having another baby” scares me to death.

As a mother of 5 and naturally skinny my entire life, I feel the need to share. With 1 child I gained over 60 lbs and took about a year to go back to my normal size, with another I was in my low cut jeans the whole pregnancy and fit back into regular fit/sizes 4 days later... The rest of the kids were middle ground... But with all of them I didnt over or under eat. Just ate when I was hungry and more fruits veggies..etc. But still a normal daily food intake.. All my children were 8lbs+ so healthy and good sized.. But yes women need to realize that bodys change all ways.. Oh and for added information, I may be the same size in general but i will always have stretch marks, cellulite, looser skin, baby pooch..to some degree. I absolutely love these videos! Sooo refreshing to see this content type . keep up the great work!

This first little bit of time (like 3 months) is all about survival and learning and loving your baby. Feed yourself and care for yourself in all ways because you need to stay your best so that you can give to your baby. You aren't even recovered from giving birth a month in! Give yourself rest and love. It took me about a year to fit back in my clothes and that's okay. If that's what happens for you that's okay too. In the grand scheme of things babies are only babies for a short amount of time. Focus on your little because that's what's really important. Not what anyone else thinks of your body. 💜

Oh yes, it does. It is a factor. Not the only factor, but given same lifestyles, the younger one will fare better. A young body, with more collagen, higher metabolism and better muscle tone (exclusive of exercise, just counting the natural advantages of youth), will "snap back" better than an older one. Mine are 8 years apart, I gained no weight with the first (meaning PP weight... I always find it ridiculous that everybody uses pregnancy weight as an indicator, when the baby, the fluids, the enlarged uterus make up most of it!). On the other hand, I had no access to a supportive bra the first time, so that pregnancy did more damage there. Youth is not everything, but you can't deny its physical advantages.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I cried watching this. I’ve had 3 children and have hated my stomach for years….I am otherwise thin and fit but my stomach still carries evidence of pregnancy and childbirth. I went so far as to have a consult with a plastic surgeon but opted not to have surgery. Watching this video made me feel so good about myself. I had 3, 9 pound babies and did not have any form of pain relief ……completely natural. That is what I will take pride in.

Thank you for this.. I had my 8th baby last year, I’m 36, I’ve had three emergency sections and so my body is pretty torn now. Im also a full time nurse, so life is incredibly busy, I often feel bad when I look in the mirror and see how bad my body looks now, and things like seeing celebs “springing back” doesn’t help! But my husband is so supportive and he always reminds me how beautiful I am and how I look is perfect.. this needs talking about more!

To be honest, when you mentioned the c-tuck, I immediately had the thought that I need to find out how I can do that. Even after watching an entire video about loving our bodies as they are and after spending the last 10 months growing to love my post partum body, I still had the snap reaction to "fix" my body. I've come a long way, but I need to work on loving myself under any circumstances.

I had my son quite young and I was very slim to begin with. My body "bounced back" with a week or two. However, now I'm older and have gained some weight from not really taking care of myself. If I were to have a baby today my body would definitely react differently, I'm sure of it. Hopefully, I'd be wise enough to give myself grace. Thank you for these types of videos 💕

I'm glad you exist. I'm so sick of this toxic society expecting women to perpetually look like we're 18. The infantilisation, sexualisation and insane beauty standards are just the start. Mums are also subject to so much more pressure and judgement than their male counterparts for how they parent as well as how they look.

Thank you for this ❤ I'm a little over 6 months pregnant and already feel the pressure of bouncing back. Pre-pregnancy I was a fitness competitor where all I've known and focused on was how my body looked and how lean I could get/stay. Being pregnant brought on so much body dismorphia but I've finally started to love my new body and the fact that I am healthy for my son. If I "bounce back" it will be simply due to the fact that I love fitness and will be eager to train hard again.

It makes me so angry that society and the power of the media mean that women feel disgusting after bringing new life into this world. 😭 If the pressure to look good steals a woman’s happiness and therefore impacts a woman’s precious time with her new baby for even an hour it’s an hour too long. The inner critic is loud at times and with all hormones etc I imagine it’s even worse after pregnancy so SOCIETY - EASE UP!! Ps. You absolutely rock Stephanie. Keep doing what you’re doing. It’s crucial work.

Now I’m trying to get back in shape with exercise and diet changes and I know I’m never going to look the same, but it’s incredibly rewarding to feel stronger and healthier because of my efforts, instead of some magical “bouncing back.”

I love you are bringing awareness to these topics! I have 5..my 1st 3 were girls..it took a yr to get my body where I wanted it. My hips got wider, my stomach was wider, I put on 80-100 lbs w ea..half was swelling that took months to go away and then I had to lose the weight. Then at 40 I got pregnant w twin boys. Shockingly I only put 20 lbs on w them. When I gave birth for the 1st time my body went back to normal 2 mo later BUT a yr later I became pre menopausal and all of a sudden put 80 lbs on. Now due to that situation, lacking hormones, I can't lose the weight to save my life. When I lost my job to covid I lost my health insurance, so I'm on my own for now. I have tried everything and nothing is working. It sucks and I'm struggling with it cuz I'm not used to being so heavy. I don't feel sexy, cute, etc. And it's def a struggle. I love my body cuz it brought 5 beautiful lives into the world but I don't love it physically and that's my struggle. Thankfully I'm old enough to know better than to compare myself to others but it still sucks.

My mother was very tall and had tons of room for my sisters and I while she was pregnant so she snapped back almost instantly after giving birth. I'm short and have little room for any future children so I'm really worried about the changes that my body will face once I've delivered.
@meganhikito1033

My mom is short and she had a c-section with both me and my brother, but she still looks young even though she's over 50. But she's naturally slim and loses weight fast. She's been exercising for about 15 years now which surely helps her look how she does now, but after pregnancies she didn't focus on bouncing back. Yet still all is left after them is a small pouch on her belly. On the other hand, I'm slightly taller than her but my body is totally different. I got most of my genes from my dad's side (apart from the height), I quickly gain weight, it's very hard to lose it and on top of that I have problems with my thyroid. I would hope that if I get pregnant it'd be as "problemless" as hers. I'm sure no pregnancy is easy but when I talk with her about my fear of pregnancy and what can happen to my body because of it, she says I'm overreacting. I find it hard to think differently, I've read so many stories of what can happen during/after pregnancy but never met a person who would get what I mean. I feel like there's too little reliable information on what can happen to woman's body because of pregnancy and when it happens, mothers are left alone, misunderstood, having problems with finding a specialist who could help.
