Boundaries in Friendships with the Opposite Sex

Good God, I just said the same exact things to my couple friends last night. I like how you put it....... definitely from experience the boundaries have been formed! That’s the exact way I deal with opposite sex...... establish a healthy boundary from the word go!

i wish all married people thought this way their wouldnt be divorces. and people didnt get married if they still wanted others,feel like they have to have others of opposite sex in their lives. spare the pain to them and dont marry and if you are married be honest and let your spouse go so they can find someone who will love them and only them

Well Said! It's the best if husband's can understand their wives and treat them as their besties than any other friend he knows. But if he doesn't, as a wife , as a Godly women, wives also must give some space to them until they understand and grow up. Prayer can solve any issue in relationships.

I respectfully disagree. I think Men and Women can be best friends and not have it get wired or sexual. 4 of my 10 best friends are women and they are all either married or in relationships. I try to be friends with their husbands as well but it just happens because of my love of Zumba and other gym classes I have more in common with the women and we hang out at the gym and sometimes grab a bite to eat after or go to concerts.

Lets not forget... Jesus had a female friend. =) So if you wanna follow him you better stop looking at women like they are "temptations", and start seeing them as "people".

Isn’t true love about giving each other the freedom to be what and who we want to be? To be able to be around other people of the sex we are attracted to and still choose your beloved each and every time? What a wonderful affirmation of true love that would be. To me, love is about freedom, support, trust, respect, authenticity, connection/intimacy (the kind you build in any close relationship) among other things. I’ve been there where I felt that not having male friends (unless they were gay) was the “right” thing to do for my partner to not make him feel uncomfortable. I’ve learnt since that if my partner is uncomfortable with that then either the relationship did not have a solid enough foundation based on the values listed above, or bad past experiences that made it difficult to trust or he held false beliefs about how a relationship “should” be. If people want to cheat they will find ways. I understand the view about respecting someone’s feeling because yes, one can feel a little jealous about your partner being out with a friend while you’re alone at home or vice versa. But again, if you have trust along with the other values in your relationship, then this wouldn’t need to be an issue. I know for one that if I feel a lack of freedom then I start to feel like I can’t breathe, making me more likely to be unhappy. Having said this, If having these sorts of boundaries with friends of the sex you are attracted to works for you then why not? For me, I value true connection with true friends and respect my friendships too much to let them go to satisfy my partners insecurities (rather, I would work through them with him if needed) likewise, I would value the true connections my partner may have with his friends, regardless of what sex they are. I would not want to take away from his life only enhance it. Freedom allows you to be more of who you truly are.
