I really liked how you mentioned communication outside of the therapy session. One of the most important ones I really liked was the secrecy boundary and setting expectations when sessions get out of hand. I had never thought of having a secrecy boundary so I think I would use that when I have more couple sessions. That was really helpful. Last week in our last discussion post for the quarter we talked about boundaries, so this was timely. I relate to the issue of talking about subjects that are difficult. This was an issue for me recently in session. I think being in session with some of my clients has brought up issues I need to work on within myself to best process them and be able to serve my current and future clients. Thank you for doing this episode!

Thanks for sharing that! I can definitely relate to learning what you need to improve on based on what’s triggering in sessions. ♥️

I loved this because I think people forget that therapists are humans too.

And so do we haha! It’s not easy to enforce these but boundaries usually aren’t

Sounds like charging for no shows is very effective. Don’t want to take time away from people who need it.

They are effective. The agency I work for has a very strict policy with no shows and late cancellations, which are enforced. Only those who are on low-income, plans are not charged a no show, but too many late cancellations and no shows puts you at risk for being referred out so my clients make sure to show up or cancel with sufficient notification. Emergency situations are the only exception.

I like how you related the fact that you are human too and certain things you will not tolerate even from a client

That graphic language about sex is part of the therapy process just as graphic abuse or trauma would be. Seems strange that the client wouldn’t be able to be open completely. But I like that you reminded therapists can politely and respectfully refer out.

Great content Steph Anya! Especially because most don't think of the therapist's boundaries since the client's needs are put first.

Any time I hear the words "reclaim" and "time" I automatically hear US Representative Maxine Waters (aka auntie Maxine) say, "Reclaiming My Time! Reclaiming My Time" 😂

What should a client do if they don't feel comfortable talking to their family member directly and would prefer the therapist to tell that family member what is bothering them instead🤔? Also, these videos help a lot😁👍!!!

Loved this video (well I love all your videos 🤪). Thanks for sharing. I can see how boundaries can get crossed easily if the therapist isn’t cautious of those things. Do you know any information on being dual state licensed? When you take the state exam for one state and have all the clinical hours, if you want to become license in another state, do u have to take the exam again ?

Thanks, Alicia! I appreciate you. It’s definitely possible! The requirements depend on the individual state requirements. Licensure portability is a major discussion right now because it’s so fragmented and can be a daunting process. Definitely common to be licensed in multiple states though- not impossible.

@@AliciaKindleReads I would reccommend researching the states you want to be licensed in so you know what their requirements are, some states are more stringent or lax than others.
