Just opened a bottle of Old Tub a week ago. And I absolutely love it. People talk about nutty profiles but this is crazy. Like drinking peanut butter. Absolutely love it.
I actually like Old Tub, but I also like a lot of the stuff people say are "too nutty." I'm not sure I'd buy a lot of it at $25, but I always grab one when I see it on sale around here for $17.
Elijah Craig toasted barrel is actually very good for the proof. It is hyped much more than it should be and obviously if it ain’t your thing it ain’t your thing but most people really do enjoy it. If you haven’t tried it I would suggest doing so and find out for yourself. If you’re considering buying it don’t pay more than retail.
Tennesucky still sits in liquor stores glass cabinets..I made that mistake last summer , most expensive drain pour after I let it open up to get better (it didn't)
I love me some ectb! I just think it’s not for people who don’t like toasted barrel bourbons. Don’t let this review turn you off of it if you find it in your area for a good price and you enjoy toasted barrels whiskey.👍🏽
Ah Matt, I haven’t disagreed with you much but will have to say Old Tub is on my list of top value bourbons. Always on my shelf. Great in cocktails or neat.
I agree. However I do enjoy Ardbeg, Oban and other smokey Scotches. Old Tub is nothing like these but the flavor is incredible one of my favorites to make Old Fashions.
Great list and HIGHLY entertaining!! I have to say, however, that for $25 I actually dig Old Tub. But as you said, I’m allowed to be wrong every now and then.
@@JMo-uh5cd I would also preemptively add (since Matt doesn’t appear to have tried it yet) Widow Jane Rye - Applewood Aged. For $50, it’s just not great.
"Stuck in a storm drain... next to a pig farm." Oh yuck, somehow the best and worst bourbon description I've ever heard at the same time. And I'm not an economgist either... WTWT strikes again!
That was a necessary ,hilarious and informative review. Really you probably didn't really need to say anything that look when you tasted the rare stash said it all , but you never fail to make me laugh so glad for your commentary.
Hey Matt! You should combine all those duds into a blend, but not to make a better bourbon, but to make an even worse one! Then see if that sucks more than the worse bourbon you ever had. Could be a fun vid
We are still waiting for the Karissa and Tequila live stream. I've had Old Tub...got it as a gift and felt obligated to drink it. It was rough but I finished the bottle. Never again!!
Only one minor complaint. Wax on bottles. Like why? Hard to remove and looks crappy after you've opened it. Let's all just agree wax should be used for other things like candles and hair removal. Cheers!
@@johncannon3593 yeaaaa, agree… but lol, still looks a bit weird! Evan Williams SiB has great wax, but after it’s opened the neck just looks weird to me
I don't want to sound extreme, but whoever does the wax at Tumbling Dice can fuck right off. That is the worst bottle ever. You are going to need tools and a blow torch and you'll probably get hurt trying to open it. The whiskey is good AF though.
I didnt like Elijah toasted barrel either but heard that if you decant it it is amazing so I decanted my bottle and it is 100% true! Night and day difference. The youthful grain notes dissapeared and it rounded out. Turned into something beautiful that I would buy again.
This channel is a god-send. Every video has such solid production quality and your reviews are ACTUALLY reviews. They’re thorough, detailed, funny and actually give me a sense of what I can expect from a whiskey. Unlike other whiskey “reviews” that mention like 2 notes on the nose and palette then talk about other irrelevant shit. Instantly subscribed and I look forward to more content. Finally a whiskey channel that doesn’t BS around and is ACTUALLY entertaining than all other unoriginal duos that try to imitate the Whiskey Vault folks. I appreciate you. Cheers
Biggest annoying thing for me: people in expensive cars that do not know how to use turn signals!!! What? Was that an option you choose NOT to install? It is a turn signal...which means you are alerting people of your intention to turn. You don't use it after you started the turn...or changed lanes right in front of me (with minimal clearance)...but to let others know AHEAD of time...five seconds at least...that you intend to turn/change lanes. And while I am fuming about that...I hope these same idiots are upside down in debt and have bought every bottle you listed here. Heck, they probably even like them!!!! Great segment Matt...you are spot on with your views! Cheers!
Old Tub is $15 around these parts. 100 Proof, Uncut/Unfiltered Bottled in Bond...it loooks good on the bottle! Alas, I won't buy another even at $15. WT101 is $3 more and so much better.
I hadn't seem a lot of people review the new bottle style of the Calumet Small Batch before you. I almost bought it because they made it look like the 14/15/16 bottles, but something about the fact that they disguised it turned me off.
Love this Matt! I share the same dislike for Smooth Ambler’s Big Level wheated bourbon. It was a big mistake on a couple levels. I couldn’t even give it away. I enjoy their other offerings however.
Great video (like you never heard that before). Thanks for the tip on the Rebel 100. I bought a bottle a year ago on a few recommendations for being an alright inexpensive mixer bourbon. I think I'll take it on an upcoming road trip and finish it in a jiffy. I've bought Old Tub BIB a couple of times for a mixer for 18.99 here in So Cal. Not bad at that price it is always finished quickly. So no idea what it tastes like a month later. Cheers.
Old Tub and C&K B1 are my only disagreements. They are definitely different, but I think that's also why I enjoy them more than the standard MGP everything out there. Solid list though, cheers!
Matt, Savage!! But, a long time in the making. I am not advocating for negative reviews, but people should be more vocal about whiskey that doesn't rate. Tell it like it is. Just be sure to couch the video in a clear cut statement that this is your opinion, and that whiskey reviews are subjective. Cheers!
Been subscribed for a few years but I’m here because Sean and Dan said you’re awesome. So I feel compelled to let you know I concur. And my KC12 concurs. 🥃
Elijah Craig Toasted barrel. Lmao! I'm not going to take full credit for the idea for this video but i think i am responsible for at least one bottle! Love your channel!
Calumet 10 & up is real good, so yeah 8 is a surprise. Old Tub...I don't see that, the second bottle I've had is 2/3 gone? Maybe @15.99 It makes it palatable?, but then again I use it alot as a mixer Like Evan W. Black. I agree about the celebrity labels try to avoid them, unless I can get a pour first. The only one I liked was Blackened(Metallica)but I got a flask size, so I wouldn't slap my brother if it was terrible. Poor guy ducks everytime I come over with a new pour.
Old tub is awful. I’m getting rid of mine in cooking and old fashioneds! Recommend that method of dealing with it. But honestly, I love EC Toasted, but I also love toasted finishes. I would have thought that Calumet 8 would have been at least decent.
Totally agree with Rebel 100. I had a bottle years ago when it was still Rebel Yell that was good. But my recent bottle of Rebel 100 tastes like wet hay.
Surprised that the Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel made your list. Is it because it’s not not worth $80? I actually thought it was pretty decent. If you have a bottle that you’d like to give away I’d be more that happy to take it off your hands😊😊
This is a super fun whiskey channel. It has soul. I’m going to give it a…8.4. Yes an 8.4. This channel rocks my socks. Thank you and keep your eyes on the good things in life.
