The boat was connected to shorepower over night and one of my batteries are boiling hot, someting is wrong in the electrical system and I launch a investigation to find the fault

Tino: As one who hopes to be a Bavaria sailboat owner himself in a couple of years, I'm enjoying your videos. Learning a lot about Bavaria's and how they're built. So thank you for making the videos.. That said, a question for you on the battery set-up.. Instead of dealing with the Septor units, that seem like a built-in problem, why not just put all 4 batteries on one side of the boat, and connect them all together in parallel? You can run your charger and alternator wires directly into one battery, and the parallel set-up will take care of equalizing the charging.. I'm not an expert, and there may be something I'm missing, but seems like a much more straight-forward way to do what you (and apparently Bavaria) are trying to do... Thanks, and keep up the videos!

Thanks for watching my videos :) I will check if there are other ways to connect the battery system and check what other people do when they have more than one battery. In my old boat there was a manual switch between two batteries. The septor is just a electronic switch that ensures me a charged start and bowtruster battery even though I drive the domestic batteryes totally flat.

Yeah, I can certainly understand keeping the house and starter battery separate, especially if you're not on the boat all the time... Paralleling all the batteries together is simpler, but it's also better if you're on the boat full-time, and have solar panels to keep the batteries topped-up... What you're doing is probably best for now, but batteries in parallel might be something to look at down the road.. Good luck!

The charger only charge with 40A a short time, it will drop dramatically when the batterys reach 60-70% to 2-5A in the end which will take a lot longer then 10hours :)

Tino G - Sailing I’m looking at buying a similar boat, perhaps a Jeanneau instead and around the world - maybe - Europe certainly. Rather than selling a car, I’ve sold my home in Melbourne AUS and this boat will be my new home. Whilst waiting for the settlement process to go through, 90 days in my case, I’ve been studying heaps as I want to be energy independent and not limited to marinas and alternators. To do it, I reckon on a house bank of over 360 Ahrs and charging facilities, including a solar array, about 400 watts. This will likely be enough with a modest reserve. I will seek help from marine electricians too as dc power systems of this magnitude can kill. With respect, what you are dealing with strikes me as being someone’s do-it-yourself attempt at setting things up without a clear plan, engineering rationale or expert guidance - and he gave up without completing the puzzle too! The array of unsupported wires is an example. There also seems to be no no consistent wiring colour standards, or fusing. Also the choice of batteries and sizing seems so arbitrary. Have you worked out how much energy you need to generate and how you will generate it? Marina mains power and chargers won’t take you around the world. Also, have you sought outside advice on this?
