B&W is basically the Rolex of speaker manufacturers. There are certainly some boutique brands which exceed them, but they are absolutely the pinnacle of a "mass market" product... Beautifully built; timelessly stylish. And of course, they work *damn* well
Years ago I was a courier and one of my jobs was to collect from the factory and bring them up to another factory in Bradford, I'm so glad that a excellent company has managed to continue doing well despite fierce competition from around the world.
Just as sure as death taxes b&w and whaferdale will be here when the anti Christ rises.....he will insist on a pair of b&w and a pair of Macintosh mono blocks😈
This was amazing. It's easy to take for granted the workmanship that goes into something like this. You just don't know until you see it. No, I don't own these. I wish!
I just love B&W! I ‘only’ have 5 Nautilus 805’s with 3000 sub which I have had for about 20 years and they still sound as awesome as the day I bought them. The 800’s in Tiger’s Eye finish are the most beautiful in my opinion. Keep on doing what you do best, Folks! Thanks for sharing this video!
B+W have always been at the forefront. Decades of innovation in audio both in theoretical and practical terms, combined with use of materials and manufacturing. Resulting in great products with real longevity.
Proud to be British and see this quality build. To short-circuit the naysayers B &W have maintained a creditable audiophile reputation for a considerable number of years whilst also being able to produce some lower end commercial successes.
Had my DM602's for about 20 years now...still love them to bits. Have cared for them over the years, I even have the original boxes & packing for when I move home. They've survived 6 house moves now...still look as good as new...
You clearly are too poor to own them. B&W average client probably throws them in the trash when their trophy wife says they don't color match the new interior design.
B&W are not really my cup of tea, very artificial sounding like Polk Audio, but hey could be worse you could have dropped a bundle on some Martin Logans.
volvo You don't know what you're talking about, your jealousy is showing, the people I know that can afford those speakers, are some of the thriftiest people I know, the whole reason you buy the best that you can afford for certain items, is so that they will last a lifetime, the shitheads that have no respect for money, don't have money very long.
@@bigredc222 I know quite a few these type "thrifty" people too. They are also known as audiophiles = Just another sad obsession that deprives people of almost every aspect of their lives because they have to have the best even if its just one stupid product. I purposefully never even test out any highest end products (be it audio/visual, cars etc.) because in these cases ignorance is bliss. Rich people never even buy products like these unless the price is minuscule compared to their wealth. Rich people get and stay rich via compound interest and networking. Networking might actually be one justification to "splurge" in these types of luxury products so that whatever parties they throw in their mansions are successful, but even then they might try to recoup the investment via tax returns.
C Smith you are wasting your time. You are talking to someone who buys the washing powder that costs half as much as the dear stuff, but you have to use three times as much to get the same results. Save the wear and tear on your forehead.
You can resist but to admire the craftsmanship and the technologies in producing B+W speakers. It also requires good electronics to drive them as well.
Ho sempre enfatizzato i toni bassi (con equalizzatori o con Home Theater), ma dopo aver acquistato le B&W ho iniziato ad ascoltare la musica in modalità "Flat"... e non sono più tornato indietro. FANTASTICHE !!!
I have a much better appreciation for the quality of the speakers, the workmanship, innovation and attention to detail that goes in the speakers. Very impressed with these speakers. I have the 702 s2 and we love them.
I can't leave a comment that pays the respect due to b&w and the motivation I've had from seeing and still never hearing a pair. I make speakers in my free time, agoraphobic for a few decades and still I've never heard them in person. I just know this is what I want to reach, I want to make something that is so beautiful in so many ways that picking the right sentences and ways to describe it just fall short. Thanks for setting the bar so high, hope to see you one day.
I've never seen a company who designs and builds their products quite like B&W does. They build speakers the way any DIY speaker builder would. No compromise, no short cuts, no corner cutting, no cheap components to save a buck. Just look at those crossover components and the internal bracing. Magnificent.
That's because the DIY way of building speakers doesn't substantially add audio quality to the end product compared to a more industrial production method, it does drive the price sky high though. You haven't seen other companies do that because there's only that many audiophiles who hear with their eyes to milk for money before you run out of suckers.
Unless they skipped it I wasn’t much impressed with the crossover build... no silicon schmoo on those giant capacitors? It isn’t too much to ask... plus, hand soldered boards are far more likely to fail than those wave soldered so it’s not a major selling point to me.
B&W is my favourite brand of the speakers . Nice, pure and clear sound . Unfortunately because of the money i have pair of old B&W speakers - DM580. They are about 30 years old but still sounds awesome. Maybe in 2040 i'll buy a pair of todays top model .
Every audiophile knows that each layer of paint, and each additional day of drying adds to the fidelity of the sound. Well done, Bowers and Wilkins, 1 million stars to you.
The company has fantastic customer service too. I had a pair of P5's that had an issue with the glue getting sticky over time (a common problem) that was over a year out of warranty and they replaced them free of charge with the newest model. Would definitely get one of their higher end speakers eventually.
I went to a shop to try these or similar speakers out. They were literally, spectacular! However! What I don't appreciate is the fact that I am now seeing videos of their speakers without ever, once, typing blower and funkins into my internet search engine. Whether that's coincidental or not, is beyond me and I don't really care. These guys make properly good sound and there are no two ways about it. If I had the cash to splurge I'd do it. One day... Maybe.
Why the dislikes ? I would imagine they sound amazing. I guess there must be other products out there that are good. They still look good to me, and the attention to detail is great.
I was watching this going, oh that's amazing, oh that's going to be expensive you don't get that quality for nothing. oh man, this looks like it's going to be like 20k, then I looked it up and yup a pair is 20k cdn.
None of that Audiophile bullshit makes no sense for example... AUDIOQUEST NRG DRAGON HIGH CURRENT AC POWER CABLE for $13,800.00!! But what about the electrical outlet and the house wiring? Don't stop there, keep going to the outside power cables on the poles...what about those? Better go all the way back to the power station, you want to be sure, don't you?
tihzho I agree. The 45 dollar Blue Jean cables make sense no matter what. A low inductance low capacitance low resistance cable is what you want. I highly recommend blue jean, mono price, canare, and monster. Reasonably priced and works just as good if not better than overpriced cables.
I had no idea who or what Bowers and Wilkins were, and the video was deliciously lacking in any description. I decided to see how long it would take to figure out what was being constructed. it took me almost 2 minutes to decide that this was, indeed, a speaker.
These speakers cost 4 times the amount of the speakers that were used to mix the album you’re listening to. There is a real disconnect when the listening gear costs multiple times what the recording gear cost in the first place.
Personally I don't like their sound, but they are by far the most thought out design of any high end Mfg. They do everything right in terms of cabinet design, diffraction control, and they are really pretty to look at.
Now you guys see the reason wone products cost so much. The craftsmanship and the quality is outstanding. I havent owned a super high quality speaker cabinet like these just yet. One day ill get there.
Just wanna say that, as someone who did not know what Bowers & Wilkins makes. This video was a roller coaster. I didn't know if you were making an airplane wing...a section of a canoe...a wooden turbine...likely didn't help I listened without sound but...nice lookin speaker tower though!
