Upgrading from my 10 year old CM1 S2 and CM Centre S2 to 705 S3 and HTM71 S3 soon. Can’t wait :)

Just upgraded from the s2 to the s3 today, huge improvement. Sound is much more detailed and matches the 702s3 nicely.

Hi, thanks for sharing center channel is absolutely gorgeous in white. How does it sound with the arc? Also, do you watch DIRECTV satellite as a source? If so, is there brightness?

Great unboxing Alex. This helped me pull the trigger on a swap from a new S2 I've had or a few months and the new S3. Got it today and while I'm waiting for it to run in I can hear the difference on a few tests. Not huge but the reduction is cabinet resonance is defo a big selling point for me. Can't wait to hear it when it's properly warmed in. A quick question for you though - does the tweeter on top move for you. I.E. Is there some looseness when pushing it with your hand? I expected it to be solid and unmoving but mine has a bit of give. This may very well be by design but be interested to know if yours is the same?

To add to my question on the tweeter looseness, I just found this within some online documentation (which I don't appear to have in my box) which may explain it: "The tweeter assembly on 702 S3, 703 S3, 705 S3 and HTM71 S3 loudspeakers is a decoupled component that is mechanically isolated from the main part of the cabinet. As such, it may appear to be loose when the product is first removed from its packaging. This is not a fault: it is an inherent feature of the design and ensures optimum performance from your speaker."

Thanks, glad to hear it was useful. And thanks for the insight going from S2 version. Definitely gets a bit improved over time, not say and night but some. Yes as you mentioned the tweeter should be a bit loose due to decoupling design. Had the 805 D4 at home for testing couple of months ago and it behaves exactly the same way, so nothing to worry about :)
@JamesAllenUK
@JamesAllenUK Год назад
@@kaelmedia8693 Ah yes, I can imagine it won't be a huge run in as the vocal quality is so good already and a marked improvement from the S2. Really good to know the looseness is by design. Just something unintuitive about having such a premium item (a lot more so with the 805!) not being solid and having some wobble but they know what they are doing ;).

So you stuck with your 706s2 bookshelves for L and R and just upgraded your center to the new HTM71 S3 with the tweeter on top? It makes sense from a central channel that does most of the sound in movies. But I was wondering about matching issues. I was thinking of getting a pair of 704s2 or s3, but sticking to either htm72 s2 or s3, but seeing how you just went for the htm71 s3 I may change my decision.

@kaelmedia8693 Год назад
As for now yes. Will most likely upgrade L & R. Went with center first as I knew that was the weakest point in my system at the moment and as you said yourself it’s basically the most important speaker movie / surround wise. I don’t feel there is much of an matching issue. I had 805 D4 earlier, then it was a problem with the center under performing, but like this now? No significant issues.

I had the HTM71 S2, in my system, for about a month...and then I saw that the S3 model was available. Aesthetically, the S3 is a better match with my 805 D3 fronts. I thought the S2 center sounded pretty good, but maybe a bit boxy sounding. That became much more obvious when the S3 center arrived. After calibration (ARC Genesis), there was a very noticeable difference between the S3 and S2 models. I don't hear the speaker enclosure, like I did with the S2...also, it blends much better with my 800 series fronts.

Glad to hear, thanks for sharing😊👍 Bigger midrange and tweeter on top helps for sure as that’s the most important dialogue wise.
@jafo1701

Do they do well with your 805D3s? I have the 805 D4s and a HTM71 S2s....and while not glaring obvious you can tell a difference when watching movies. Ideally I would love to go to the HTM82 D4s....but $6500 for one single speaker is just a bit much....If I can get close with the HTM7S3s I would rather do that and save $4k.

Hi I have the 702 s2 towers without a center channel. Would this series 3 center match ok with the last generation towers or should I look for the series 2 center on the secondary market?
@kaelmedia8693

I have the cm centre 2 s2. Would the htm71 s3 be worth the upgrade? I have cm10 fronts.

I'm definitely worried about the boxy sound, my large Bowers & Wilkins center Channel has a very boxy sound when I hear voices and it is very upsetting.

This is an old thread, but I can partially answer your question. I upgrade from the HTM61 S2 to HTM71 S2 late last year. It was a major upgrade using the same AVR. I have listened to the S3 in the showroom. It is as good, if not better, than the S2. I do wish the S2 line had a version with the decoupled tweeter to match my other speakers. The decoupled tweeter does make a big difference. Hope this helps.@@kaelmedia8693
