I got virtual lessons from Mark Baker and i review my progression through the weeks and sent back my follow up lesson.
Mark clearly has his finger on the pulse of the physical game. It's impressive he was able to break down my game so accurately from a few videos.

Honestly this is a refreshing take seeing a bowler taking training seriously. Analyzing the problem and breaking down the pain points one by one.

Well, I'm convinced. Been seeing a lot of Mark over the past couple months and seems like an excellent investment for the summer.

Def worth it I made that $150 back plus some from high game pots / strike pots / league standings.

Mark Baker is what a coach should be imo. He doesn’t break you down or make you feel silly for attempting anything. He even stated himself he doesn’t want anyone to feel bad or be berated for not doing something good. He wants you to learn and enjoy it. I’m so tempted to send a vid so I can get advice on my 2h situation
@TheBowlingNerd

Absolutely, the coaching is worth it in my opinion. I hope you send him some vids.

He's awesome! I got help from Mark too. Timing was his thing for me as well. I didn't have an issue stating under and behind the ball, but I did miss in and out a lot. I'm the same height as Mark, and he told me to bowl big because I was tilting wayyyyy too soon.

I think it's useful to think about why that 2nd step is so big as well. The ball ends up getting pushed so far away from you in your push away and your wrist is already broken back from the start. If the ball is so far away from your body at the beginning, it's gonna make you want to take a bigger step so your right leg can catch up and catch the weight of the ball. Combine that with the broken wrist at the beginning, and it can feel like you're being pulled forward with the ball rather than the ball just swinging comfortably. It'll also probably be easier to be underneath the ball at release if you don't immediately put your wrist in a weaker position at the very beginning of your swing. Don't feel too pressured to implement anything that I post though. Too many cooks in the kitchen is confusing, and too many coaches telling you a bunch of different stuff is confusing as well. This is just similar to what I used to do and struggled with a lot, the backswing getting super tall, a very weak wrist position at release, a big 2nd step, a super exaggerated crossover... I'm getting flashbacks hearing all this stuff lol
@TheBowlingNerd
@TheBowlingNerd 2 месяца назад
you're good man, I appreciate the thought process on that. Ultimately, I think it's about controlling your center of gravity. The big 2nd step felt like it was getting too far away from me, so I had to chase it a bit.

Bro looking good after 6 weeks. I went to camp bakes later year and he definitely helped me a ton. I might try kegal in a few weeks in Florida. I'm nervous about the drills. I'm not a fan of drills and I'm nervous they'll knit pick my form and style. I average 210 but I have physical fundamentals from progressing.
@TheBowlingNerd

When i went there, it was like 10 years ago. It was a great experience but my only complaint is that they didn't agree with Mark Baker's timing spot. Which i specifically asked about. Then they describe my form as having all the elements of perfect timing. As for the drills, some can certainly help. But for me, one step and foul line drills didnt get me much benefit. Since all those other steps were in the way.

I don't like crossover steps, either, and I'm relieved to hear someone else say it out loud. 😁

Best breakdown I've seen and steps taken to improve form. Any possibility doing one with a two hander?
@TheBowlingNerd

Thanks, I appreciate that I’m open to doing that, I would need to find a 2 hander in my area that wants to try this.

Thanks for sharing. Just now getting back into things and want to approach from a more technical standpoint. Definitely leaning toward the Baker video adjustments, but feel like I still need to work some kinks out on my own before that. Is it just 2 video calls or are there more?
@TheBowlingNerd
@TheBowlingNerd 2 месяца назад
For the $150 package I did, yeah it’s 2 video reviews. Not a call. He’ll privately upload it to RU-vid and send you the direct link in your email. There’s a little bit more than what I shared in my vid but I was trying to capture the highlights. Follow ups are $60, I plan to do some before fall.

Do I need to even move my right foot in front of my left at all during the approach? Should I just walk straight with my right foot.
@TheBowlingNerd
@TheBowlingNerd 2 месяца назад
It's hard to say without having seen you throw a shot. The idea of the cross step is to create space for the ball to pass by in the front part of your swing. For my lesson with Bakes, he used Kris Prather as the example. His cross step is perfect.
@JSBowling2011

Baker kept mentioning many times a couple of your steps are too long.. so why haven't you moved up on the approach to shorten them? that to me is the easiest solution?
@TheBowlingNerd
@TheBowlingNerd 2 месяца назад
I ended up doing that towards the end, if i had to do this again... i probably would have like week 2 or something. Funny story, i went to CTD to see what their coaching is like. He gave me that same advice.

@@TheBowlingNerd it just makes sense, shorter approach and then maybe your arm swing will come down to because it doesn’t really need to be that high at all

If you want to get under the ball, then don’t have such a high backswing
@TheBowlingNerd

Totally fair to say, it's been high for yearsssss lol It was vertical at one point, so this is lower for me lmao

@@TheBowlingNerd- Interesting & thanks for sharing. I’d be interested in if the high backswing was intentional & what you thought you’d accomplish with that ? No expert, just curious.
@TheBowlingNerd
@TheBowlingNerd 2 месяца назад
@@stevekeller3643 uhhh it’s something I developed the first year I was bowling in junior league. Trying to mimic some of the older bowlers. Then every time I tried to lower it. My timing got out of whack and couldn’t hit a target. But I do agree that it’s inefficient to have it as high as it currently is.
