In this Box to Bench video PJ takes a look at a custom "shorty" version of the Western Airguns Sidewinder in .22 caliber. This custom, including new body panels and cerakote finish, is a new service offered by Alamo Airguns out of Texas. More on this later.
Like all Box to Bench videos the purpose is to convey what the purchaser can expect to see on day one of ownership. Trigger weight, out of the box velocity, shots per fill (in this case an estimate) and accuracy in both fire modes as well as an overview of the airgun's features are in the video. This isn't a long term or field review, tuning guide or hunting video. Our hope is that a serious consumer wanting to make a purchase will gain a realistic perspective of how this air rifle will perform out of the box.
The Sidewinder is a tunable airgun, so shot count, velocities, accuracy, noise and just about everything else will depend on a few simple and repeatable adjustments. OF ONE DIAL. This air rifle has a large adjustment range and plenty or horsepower.
To the color scheme. Love it or not, the fact that Alamo Airguns is jumping into the dealer customization market is big news, especially since they will work their magic on an airgun that you already own, even if you didn't buy it from them! This blend of colors might not be for you, and that's OK. I can see it hard at work in a southern Florida HOA, much less likely to attract the wrong kind of attention vs its original all-black finish.
The Element Optics Immersive Series 10x40 optic used for testing is a zero-eye relief optic with very clear glass and wide field of view. Not surprisingly it held zero throughout the testing, and the turrets, though used sparingly, held zero faithfully. The long mount was used to full effect on this bullpup airgun.
